There is a large parking lot for residents in the Harriman vicinity and surrounding counties. This station has signs of MTA Metro-North Railroad and logo but the trains that stop here is actually NJ Transit which operates on time. There are self-service ticket machines that function 24/7. There is also a small indoor heated sheltered waiting area which is useful during inclement extreme cold and rainy weather. Not sure if there are any facilities at this rail station.

There is a connection to a ferry across the Hudson but it only runs to coincide with the morning and evening commutes. It does not run in the middle of the day, which is a bummer. New Hamburg is one of the stations found in the country and rural areas and has a nice feel. The layout of the parking lot is pretty big providing a lot of spots on the east side of the platform and a couple of spots on the other side. The platforms stretch out at a decent length to fit the train when it stops, although most of the time, the last or front cars will not open on the engine end due to the other end not reaching the platform fully. The underground tunnel is provided to access both of the platforms very easily, mainly for going to track 2 from the big parking lot. There's enough space to fit people while passing by. On the flip side, there is no elevator provided at this station, so do plan accordingly or rearrange something to get picked up or dropped off at one of the parking lots.

So, my partner and I took the advantage today by taking the train by our home at Plauderville, going north to the terminus at Port Jervis, NY, along the Bergen Line. A one-way ride on a packed train took 2 hours and 10 minutes, passing various diverse scenery from urban to rural. NJ Transit is the largest statewide public transportation system in the nation and the third-largest transit system in the country, with 166 rail stations, 62 light rail stations, and more than 19,000 bus stops connecting New Jersey, New York, and Philadelphia. Port Jervis is located in the corner of New York State, where Pennsylvania and New Jersey also meet. It's a very short, two-block walk from the station, across the Delaware River to Matamoras, Pennsylvania. The New Jersey State Line is less than 2 miles south of the station. The Port Jervis train station is a simple low-level platform located on the yard leads where trains are stored overnight and between runs.

The two NJT routes this station serves are the Montclair-Boonton line and the Morris & Essex line. The station is kept in decent condition and clean. It's not anything fancy and it has been over 15 years since they did their last renovation, but it serves its purpose of saving you from driving that commute to the City!

There's a little swamp nearby so you can see some wildlife and a beautiful View of the river. It's really down in there and there's nothing around shop wise. There's only a few residential people and private property that you can't go on. I would really hope that this station can become a big thing because it's perfect for this little area. They could easily put a few shops and a parking lot right there. All in all a great station for a photo op especially when the sunsets.
