Warning, you will encounter all types of people that are crazy, deranged, violent, smelly, loud, strange, weird etc.. You name it. Overall, it's a solid line for commuting from Point A-B. It's safe pertaining to engineering and train conductors. The people inside determines your experience. Ride at your own risk. Once you are on the Green line, you can expect a 25 minute ride all the way to Norwalk. There is a point from Long Beach Blvd all the way to Lakewood where it has not stops and it is zooming right through. That would be a 5 mile consistent ride without interrupted stops. Overall the Green line is solid.

I was invited to a friend's holiday party and he lives near the VT Sunset station and didn't feel like dealing with traffic so I decided to take the metro. Nothing has really changed other than the A line (formerly blue line) goes all the way to Pomona now (used to end at 7th St Metro station). They now have some Metro guards that hop on and then off at Rosa Parks station. How about for the entire duration of the route??? One thing I've noticed is the day pass went back down to 5.00 (from 7.00) and the 1.75 fare (one way) has remained the same amount since before covid (probably to keep people riding it). The one pro to this station is plenty of free parking and there were a ton of spots available.

I took the expo line from downtown to Santa Monica on the last day of my trip. It was easy to…read moreunderstand and it took less than an hour to go from downtown to S.M. The station does pass by a couple of landmarks like Olympic stadium, shrine auditorium, and one of the collages. The scenery to and from is not bad either, I always like looking out the window and notice these things. I did see some homeless people on the train but that pretty normal in this town. I did not experience any overcrowdedness or anybody talking loudly on their phones. When I arrived at the last stop I noticed two metro police at the entrance so that felt good knowing they were visible and ready to help if needed. i did ask them for directions to the airport taking public transportation and they were helpful on that topic. The pier is literally just down and street and you can see it from the station. There is a ramp available for those with wheelchairs, scooters or in my case suitcases haha. On the way to the pier, there are some restaurants including a McDonalds (it is super crowded due to the tourist getting food). There is a super pretty mural across the street from the station (look at my picture for info). Also pro tip; if you are needing to travel to LAX from this location, go to the mural and a little further down there is a bus stop. Wait there for a bus that says 'aviation LAX'. This bus will take you to the airport in about 40 minutes and only cost $1.70 without a tap card. Still cheaper than doing flyaway for $8 or a private shuttle that starts at $25. If you are thrifty like me choose the bus.

You can do so much on foot, spend the day in the area (beach, restaurants, shops, movie theaters, pier) and don't have to worry about parking and the cost of it! The actual station is outdoor, nice, easy to spot and to manage. Very easy to figure it out! Cute station, well light, signs well displayed, clean and nice. And the train was waiting for us!

Had to transfer from the A line at the Little Tokyo station to the E line( ends at the Santa Monixa pier). Was easy peasy to do and no additional charge. I'd say the one way trip from Pasadena to Santa Monica took about 90 minutes. A large portion of the trip was via Exposition Blvd. Come on down to Santa Monica via the Metro trains and see how easy it is. You can leave in the afternoon, hit the pier or numerous eateroes and bars within walking distance of the Santa Monica. A famous spot Marilyn Monroe liked is a few minutes walk from the station...the famous Chez Jay . If your'e up for a good walking workout Venice beach is only a 30 minutes south of the rail station. I walked along Ocean Ave to Venice beach and on the return I went barefoot and allowed the fabulous surf to massage my feet. A great day indeed.

To enter the elevated station, one has to cross the tracks themselves, similar to the set-up at Pico station in downtown LA. But unlike Pico, where you can walk to the nearby Staples (crypto.com) Center, it's a lot longer walk to the many famous sports arenas/stadiums that Inglewood has (e.g. Sofi and Forum). It's definitely not set-up to be a main hub. There was talk of Inglewood getting it's own dedicated elevated train to take passengers from here to SoFi...but that's been scrapped for a 'shuttle' solution. There was a restaurant close-by I wanted to try, so ended up getting on/off here. It was a no-fare day, so plenty of Metro employees were at various stations. I needed to get from LAX to Irvine on the cheap and looked at my alternatives. After looking at Greyhound and other airport shuttle services in the area, I decided to take the Amtrak that departed from Union Station Los Angeles to Irvine. It was not a short ride by any means, but it was convenient for me to get to where I wanted to go for a decent price. I booked the Amtrak ticket online about 2 days before arriving in Los Angeles. It was a fair price and definitely cheaper than an Uber ride. I was shocked at how much an Uber ride is in Los Angeles compared to the Amtrak. I arrived at Union Station around 6:30am on a Saturday morning in mid September 2026 after getting off a LAX FlyAway bus from LAX. I had time to kill and I walked around Union Station. Felt like a run down building but had its usual modern refinements. Even if its 2026, it felt like being in the 1960's and it's a train depot. With every modern enhancement here and concessions here, it felt like Union station was in a time warp, but we do need trains to get people and goods where they need to be. My time here at Union Station Los Angeles was brief. Even an Amtrak staff member who was driving in a golf cart saw me waiting on the platform told me to take an earlier train instead of waiting, but I decided to wait for my ticketed train anyway (an hour later). Thought that was weird. I walked around Union Station to kill time and when it was time to, I walked back to platform 9 with 15 minutes till departure and boarded the Surfrider train bound for San Diego and getting off at Irvine station. Union Station has limited concessions here but at least there's restrooms and places to sit down to wait for your train out of Los Angeles. The overall experience here at Union Station was typical. It is a waystation for those who are commuting on the Amtrak. It is a nice building for the Amtrak hub for all trains passing thru the Los Angeles corridor. The building is dated but it works for most people who are traveling on Amtrak and the Metrolink on any given casual day. For the most part though, my experience here was good and uneventful. I saw a couple of people talking out loud and could have been homeless. I'm thankful that Union Station is predominately safe and have uniformed security around to make sure that everyone is safe and secured. And so, if you are coming or going inside Los Angeles and want to find alternatives to air travel, consider Amtrak and Union Station Los Angeles for your way out of California and where you want to be. Union Station Los Angeles is located at 800 N Alameda Street in downtown Los Angeles, California. It's a main hub for Amtrak and a gateway to cities north, east, and south of the city. All Amtrak tickets can be purchased at Union Station Amtrak kiosks or online at Amtrak's website in advance. The tickets are fairly cheap, depending on how far you travel. Only thing about train travel is that its fairly slower than air travel, but it can be quite inexpensive compared to air travel too. Just depends on what you want to do and if you have the time for it. Union Station is open to the public, but I'm thinking it can be restrictive if you don't have a ticket and officials can ask you for a ticket if you're just loitering in the building. I'm not sure if there is a parking lot for those who park and take the train, but you'd think there is. I'm just a tourist that took a train here at Union Station. I'm sure there there's a lot of public transportation options in the Los Angeles area to get you to Union Station, if you decide you want to ride the Amtrak. I'm just glad that there are restrooms here at Union Station. It just feels like a big building with a few concessions and restrooms. Metro local lines to the valley, Pasadena, Burbank Airport and Metrolink all stop here. There's also a Santa Clarita express bus stop too. There is a Throne public restroom with running water and is relatively clean. It requires you to scan a QR code to get an access code texted to you. It seems to help the restroom cleaner and safe for customers. You can almost always see security and LAPD walking around the street and turnstile areas. This location requires TAP to enter and exit. Plenty of paid parking. There's also restaurants around if you need.

There is also a large parking lot so you can pay for cheap parking and then ride the metro to your desired destination. They also recently added those gate entrances to tap out to ensure that everyone had paid for the metro and didn't just jump the turnstiles. Overall a good station that I used frequently. Maybe not as frequently as Universal City since I live directly in between the two but a good one nonetheless.

If you're going south, you'll be on the western part of the station otherwise if you're going north you'll be to the east, so if you're on the wrong side, you'll have to walk under the overpass to get to the other side. Be careful even when it's not dark. The Silver Line is a Metro bus, not to be mistaken for the rails that are named for their color followed by the word line, that travels on the Freeway and it is a fast way to travel from the South Bay to Downtown LA up to El Monte Station.
