Here's an Irish folksong-style review of Fibber Magees: Oh, Fibber Magees, a pub so grand, In Belfast town, it takes a stand. With friendly staff and patrons too, It's the place to be, that much is true. For traditional Irish music, you can't beat, The sessions they hold, you'll stomp your feet. And on a Monday night, you'll hear with glee, The Buckmad Bhoys, a sight to see. They mix the old with the new, you see, From fiddle tunes to heavy metal, it's a spree. And their fiddle player, oh what a treat, Oh you know, He'll have you tapping your feet. So come on down to Fibber Magees, And raise a pint, with friends and glee. For a great night out, with music and cheer, It's the place to be, it's crystal clear.

We were warmly greeted by the female barkeep (whose name I'm sorry I forgot). She was delightful: funny and friendly. I had a 7-Up and Mom had a (half) pint. It was her first Guinness! The regular patrons were also very friendly and chatted with us a bit. I know we stuck out like sore thumbs, but it was nice to feel so welcomed. There are billiards and some games available. They have a LOT of liquor on tap, including many I didn't expect, like SoCo, Malibu, and After Shock! I LOVED the taps they had (see pic). Too bad we were only staying in the area for a day; otherwise we'd make a return trip!

Really enjoyed the bar and the area. Have to remember that they don't take tips anywhere in Ireland or North Ireland. I kept telling the bartender to keep it (I'd hand him a 20 for 18 bucks of booze) and he'd just walk away - no acknowledgement or anything. Were able to try some good whiskey's here including A Friend in Hand whiskeys (this is an amazing whiskey store just down the street). The whole time we were there we got no rain (same as our first time) so we sat outside a lot, people had cute pups out there. Super nice. It serves its purpose of getting people drunk and that is all its loyal customers appear to want! The drinks are cheaper than other local pubs but its just not a nice place to be. There are always the locals in watching the racing or football, and with a local betting shop close by then maybe it would be a good place to go for that. But that's not my thing, and I'd rather look for somewhere else to drink.

The bar is small but mostly beers and snack. Most of the men (don't see any women) are very local and usually here from morning til nite time. The cheers are cheap, like a dollar a pint and it's good, couldn't pass that up. Great & nice service and you just sit back and enjoys the moment.

We stepped inside and new right away that we were in a "local" pub. The regulars were all talking to each other and everything grew quiet as soon as we stepped in. The silence, however, was short lived. As soon as we ordered a couple of pints, the bartenders and a couple of gents at the bar were chatting our ears off. Guinness seems to get cheaper the farther away you move from the City Centre and the Red Devil was no exception. I don't recall if they have a full bar available, but there is an off license run by the bar right next door. It was one of those types of places where you walk into the off license and it turns out to be the bartender that you were just talking to a few seconds before.

If your soft, I'd say tread lightly. If you're a loyalist I'd tell you to start running now…read more Politics aside, this is one of the most genuine bars in Catholic West Belfast. It's a Celtic and Man U pub, but it's even more local than that. The local football club Willowbank "The Bank" consider this home. And the Cliftonville FC is also strongly supported. The clientele are tough 'Salt of the Earth' Catholics who will warm your heart or beat you to a pulp depending on your behavior. I guess the highest praise I can give the Red Devil is if I'm ever in Belfast this is where I'm going. Great down to Earth people.
