This is one of the worst places to see a movie! The crowds are always rowdy, and too many times I have had to get management involved over some type of altercation in the auditorium. The chairs are uncomfortable, the theater is dark and dank, and they cannot even get the food right. Trust me, it really irks me when I spend $15 on a soda and popcorn, only to be served stale popcorn that was likely pre-popped, poured from a plastic trash bag, poured into a storage at the counter, and then served to you - nasty! As much as I love going to movies, this is the last place I ever choose. There are many, many more theaters that will give you a real movie experience. This is NOT the place! read more

Hard Parking and hard access. We came to one store here, but I went to a couple of others. And as well eat in food court.

I always like going to this mall just to walk around and enjoy the dome and people watching. They are pet friendly and welcome your little critters. The food court is my only complaint as it's separate from the main building and you have to walk in the elements to get there. read more

We stayed at the Marriott in downtown San Francisco so the Metreon is very convenient for us to go to every day. Love the fact that they have shareTea wth the yummy White tapioca balls. The Thai restaurant in there is fast with pretty good food as well. If you're in the area stop by for some quick lunch and a yummy Boba tea. read more

Great customer service is not a given... especially not in a grinder area like the Metreon. This review is for the quality customer service I received from Wally. He went above and beyond to fill a large, last minute take out order for our group. They had very specific needs, I asked him a million questions, he patiently answered and made sure we had exactly what we needed. He had the order ready and helped me curbside so I did not have to deal with parking during the horrific traffic that is on Mission and 4th, especially during rush hour. Wally, you are awesome. I really want to give this place more stars, but honestly, I loved Metreon the way it Used to be! When it first opened, this was such a playground! You would come here for one purpose only: To expand your mind, explore, discover new things, and to have a blast! There was a huge game room upstair, Discovery Channel store, Where the Wild Things Are, a store for collectable toys and trinkets, a tech store (Sony? i think), as well as the IMAX theater, and of course, who can forget: Playstation store! Wow, the countless of hours I spent here every summer was unbeatable. Yes, this geek spent every summer trolling the Playstation Store playing every new release games and jumping around Where the Wild things are, reading all sorts of book on the Discovery store, and playing their virtual driving games in the Sony store, as well as 3D bowling! Once I was done with all that, then I went to eat at the food court and went outside for some beautiful summer sun, laying in the grass with all the birds. Fast forward a decade later. Businesses are falling, times are hard, people don't spend as much money on tech due to the economy, and this place became a huge ghost of a building. I guess a bunch of smarties got together and tried to figure out what makes money, and therefore now this place is back to busy, filled with lots of restaurants, the IMAX theater, and Target store! I'm not complaining because there are a lot of good food inside, the IMAX is still available, and who doesn't want to go to Target? I really appreciate the fact that this facility is always kept clean, no matter what time of the day. The building design has always been modern and full of vibe, so there's no need to update it. The beautiful open park and outside sitting patio and the memorial with waterfall just adds to the friendliness which this building always entices. Props to whoever owns this building now and took it from negligible to profitable while keeping things orderly, clean, and friendly for the public. However, the nostalgic, sentimental part of me will always love this place more as the way it was before rather than this glorified food court which we see today. read more

This is one costly movie they're but that's what happens when gofobo hosts free movie screenings almost daily & most of those moochers dilly dally in line & bring their picnics sans buying enough to support the Metreon. Also the rent of the Metreon is a killer. Easy access to Bart, Muni, Caltrain, & even a parking garage that charges like SFO. I just wish this place would take deal flicks. read more

Love this mall but the only thing during the holiday weekends it's crowded. Its hard finding a place to sit and enjoy your dinner.

do you remember the first time you fell in love? i do. it was here....10 years ago. so this place you could say...has a special place in my heart. and its been hard looking at is a shell of its former self. admittly, i do bring other dates here in hopes of getting back that same loving feeling...but the ambiance and love inducing qualities are long gone. a lot of people hated on it as the Sony Metreon. it was a very cool concept. arcades, movie theater, sony store, a few restaurants. it was pretty cool and innovative. now its a food court :( i mean thats really the only thing you can do here. is eat...boo. do you remember "where the wild things are" how dope was that. i was 17/18 when i first came here so its far that i could still kind of enjoy it. i also remember that first date with my first love.. we were able to watch Apollo 13 for free on imax....awesome!!! since then i have scene other movies here...imax is pretty dope...especially in 3d. but not matter how it changes or becomes less of an entertainment center and just another place to spend money...it will still be one of my favorite spots in the city. I don't think they are conscientious to wheelchair users like me. the security guard asked me to get out of the way (actually told me that I couldn't "stand" there!) but I was in line to use the restroom...what the heck?!! He was rude and had an impolite tone. he even kicked the wheel of my wheelchair when i didn't move. Some people don't think But I enjoyed my movie! ...got a nice follow-up call from the Metreon management saying they were sorry for the behavior of the ignorant guard...that helps. read more

I hit a couple of movies at the Metreon but the foodie places inside far exceeds the movie cinema. Now that the Metreon has classed up way beyond my expectations, I don't see much of the bad crowd hanging around now that the price of a ticket has skyrocketed. Even outside the street, some of new businesses bumped out the fast food places that used to attract a bad crowd, now this area is bustling with good/regular people no longer in fear of their lives. Tonight I had to leave a movie playing at the Metreon about 40 minutes after it started. Why? Because, even though it started 8:35PM and had a PG-13 rating, there was a baby also attending the movie. The baby was about 1-2 years old and sitting on her mother's lap in the row in front of me. Needless to say, there was all kinds of verbalization coming from the child and of course the eventual crying. It was very disruptive. A couple of times my boyfriend went to seek the assistance of the manager. Eventually, we ended up leaving, as the movie had become very disjointed from all of the interruptions and it didn't appear they were going to be asking the young mother to leave. (What was she thinking?) While we were getting our money back (we made sure we would get our money back before we decided to leave) we asked the very young man providing the refund if it is normal practice for them to allow babies into movies of this nature (it was the semi-gory, sexually-charged dark comedy Dark Shadows) and at this hour. He looked at us very blankly and said that yes they do allow babies to attend. I repeated the question, just to be clear he heard me correctly. He answered in the same monotone way, that yes, they do allow babies in to that kind of movie and at that hour. He was completely indifferent. It was very poor customer service and a clearly unexamined policy... No apology for wasting our time, no thought of other patrons of the theater and the effect it would have on their experience to have a crying baby in the next row (or multiple crying babies for that matter - since any parent could very well show up for a scary movie, at night, with a little baby in tow.) You will lose customers if you allow such blatant and consequential inappropriateness. Another thing that made this movie very challenging, which I have observed multiple times at the Metreon, was that volume was SO LOUD. The whole theater was shaking - - even during quieter scenes. I actually have earplugs handy in my purse and I always brought them out when I attended the Metreon. (I put this in past tense because I will never attend a movie there again after my experience tonight.) The movie we saw last time we were at the Meteron was so loud my boyfriend went and let the manager know, but we didn't notice a decrease in volume. I was actually equipped with two pairs of earplugs that night and he wore the other set! My final gripe... my boyfriend pointed out as we are leaving that the security guy who was standing outside of our particular theater (also a very young man), had a gun. We discussed how that seemed a little unnerving to have young "security" guards with the ability to shoot and kill people, if they feel necessary. I don't care how much he was trained... the gun is excessive in that setting. Bottom line, the Metreon has no class. read more

I LOVE IT, but i wish it wasn't so overly priced. I went here to watch a movie, wait for a friend and eat some soup from Soup Kitchen. It's just an overall pretty place to kill time or chill and observe people. I love being creepy when bored. It's right next to the YB Park so you can walk around and hang out here for a couple of hours. Or go to the Target next door, so much to do! read more

I arrived at the Metreon to meet a friend. I was early. It was about 10:15am and the seating was blocked off. I asked the security person why and get was told it's not open until 10:30 in a very rude tone. I said that was ridiculous and she started arguing with me. A second guard came by and also started arguing. This was not restaurant seating. It was near the theater. I told them I was waiting for someone and had bad arthritis in my knees and just need to sit down. The second guard continued to bark at me. A sign of security guards being full of their perceived power. A simple response in a nice tone was all that was needed. read more

I really like this shopping center, they offer everything from cellphone kiosk shops to movie theaters to high end restaurants to a full size target store on their top floor. The goods and services are kinda pricey here, but everything is always top notch quality, you definitely get what you pay for. I like that this shopping center has a decent sized movie theater arcade, they offer a handful of pinball and claw machines and quite a few racing and first person shooters. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for something fun to do while out and about in the city. read more

The New Metreon is very cool looking from the outside and the new. Jillians is remodeled and a great place to meet friends and watch sports. Can't wait until Target opens!! This used to be a very unique experience. Conceived by Sony as a urban showcase of their technology, it had geeky stores like the Discovery Channel, technology showcases, cool places to eat and hang out, and yes, an IMAX and a great movie theater. Now, it's just the exact same sort of thing you would find in a suburban strip mall: Starbucks, Target, Movies, a rag-tag collection of video games, and a so-so food court. Listen, I'm a tourist so I like this space and the building and walking back and forth deciding between the few, pricey food options. Tourists enjoy this shit. Also there's a movie theater, which seems cool. I really appreciate the outdoor space and seating, as well as the wifi. I had lunch here one day and I was over it but we don't have this type of structure/space in NYC so be thankful San Fran! I was here last night with my youngest kids to see a movie. The evening itself started off poorly as it took us almost 30 minutes to find parking in the garage. By the time we parked we headed straight to the cinema instead of having time to wonder around and grab a snack. When the show was out everything was closed.
