Chicken Alfredo. Not too shabby for hospital food
    Ashley S.

First and foremost - this place deserves 10 out of 5 stars. I would also like to state that I fully expect to wait in ER's, regardless of why I am there, it's just a timely process. Medical Center McKinney made a point to move with efficiency while maintaining attention to all of their patents. Regardless of what past reviews may say explaining negative experiences here, they clearly must have read, listened, and improved. This was my first time at this location for an emergency surgery to get my appendix removed. I ended up getting a laparoscopic appendectomy. They couldn't get me in the first night I arrived but insured I was comfy during my stay and that my cyst didn't rupture overnight, then performed surgery first thing the following morning and I was gone before noon. I am in and out of hospitals much more than the average girl in their early 20's due to undiagnosed tonic clonic seizures, and I have never had such a seamless experience at a hospital from start to finish. From cleanliness in the building, to the kindness, consideration, and obvious knowledge their staff possessed, I was genuinely impressed. Every single staff member I interacted with throughout my 24 hours there made me feel comforted and informed me every step of the way to ensure I knew what to expect out of my visit. They also made a point to ensure that my seizure disorder was not ignored during my visit. I would highly recommend this place, as they kept me healthy and as happy as I could be with an impromptu ER visit. Thank you Medical Center McKinney! Just as my other terrible hospital experiences will never be forgotten, neither will this extremely amazing one. Yes, I am using the word amazing to refer to a hospital stay. Y'all have restored my faith in the level of attention patients receive in the ER, regardless of how "minor" the issue may be. I cannot remember the names of everyone I interacted with, and I apologize to those not mentioned, but here are just a few of the excellent people that showed a genuine desire to help: -The nurses Lindsey, Lindsay, and Sabrina -The front desk members that assist with paperwork and administrative functions (I can't remember one ladies name that was really awesome but I believe her last name was Bolden, she helped address financial questions pertaining to insurance) -The pre-op nurse -Dr. Duffy (surgeon) -The anesthesiologist (do not remember his name unfortunately, very kind and helpful) -So many more great team members that are not named here that made a big contribution. Thank you all.

Dr. Miller has a very easy going and gentle personality..., which is intangibly important to me and my wife! My initial reason for seeing him was due to my left shoulder causing me pain. Ironically, I had a skiing accident that resulted in a tear of my MCL just prior to seeing Dr. Miller initially. After an MRI, he treated the MCL tear and shoulder pain with PT initially and didn't rush me into making a surgical decision. In addition, he gave me a cortisone shot for the shoulder which released the pain. The MCL healed nicely without any further procedure being required; however after 6 months the shoulder did get worse due to a separate but freak accident, so we decided that surgery was the only option that would relieve the pain permanently. This was the best decision, because the arthroscopic procedure revealed a massive tear of the supraspinatus which required 6 anchors instead of the normal 4 to reattach it properly. The entire experience has been outstanding and thankfully, the pain has been minimal. You can probably tell I really think the world of Dr. Miller and would recommend him to anyone who needs orthopedic care mostly because of his extensive experience and thorough approach.

In particular it makes me have some orthopedic issues. Dr Humeniuk was recommended by my geneticist. He listens better than 98% of doctors I have met. He is incredibly thorough. His office staff is caring and they seem quite happy working there. I appreciate all the extra time he spends with me because his insights have been invaluable in understanding the big picture of what I have going on. He's even given me some great ideas for non-surgical interventions and not-orthopedic issues (such as doctors to see and things to talk to my other current specialists about). I belong to an online support group for people with my chronic genetic condition. In that group we have what we call "the good Dr list". I suggested adding him to it recently and when I did, at least a dozen other members piped up to say that they see him and that he is phenomenal. One of them called him "the unicorn" of doctors. We usually talk pretty frankly about bad experiences and we rarely all agree on an overall good experience with a doctor. There's almost always someone who has had a poor experience in our group, but no one had with Dr. Humeniuk. That says a ton about his focus on his patients, especially considering we are people who see a lot of different doctors. I appreciate his commitment to my health and helping me see and understand my own health from his perspective. His staff is kind and happy and I can see that he treats them very well. Sometimes you do wait a short while to see him (15-25 minutes). I've had specialists who expect me to wait 4 hours or more, so that's nothing to me. I suppose if you expect to be seen exactly at your appointment time, try someone else but that's not something that bothers me. His skill and willingness to listen and help me understand more than makes up for any short wait.

He will go with more conservative treatments and is in no rush to send you to surgery. I had a recent MRI which showed severe arthritis but he looked at it more closely and realized my pain was something else and I was pain free within 2 days. He also took the time to listen to all my complaints and ran some blood tests and discovered an illness that no other doctor has been able to find. It would have been easy for him to just see the MRI results and move on, but because he did not I am finally able to have answers for all my chronic issues. I will be forever grateful for him. The front office people are also very kind and helpful.

I had my first surgery with Adam's at that time. I swapped over to Rodgers after my initial surgery. I have now come full circle. I was outsourced by VA community care for my bilateral carpal tunnel surgeries (and for those who…read moredon't know, all outsourced care by the VA is paid for by TriWest -this will help to understand this review). First and foremost, Dr Adams, Kendra (PA) and the rest of the surgical team were great from start to finish - 5 s. As for the admin/billing part (Methodist Health System) -they get a sub par review. VA Community Care sends out the referral, a TriWest authorization # and the dates the referral is good for promptly after it is decided that a patient will be going outside of the VA hospital for medical care. For me, this was not the first time I've been outsourced for care in the civilian sector BUT this is the first time that I've had difficulty with billing -and it was not just one time to where everything that proceeded would not have any issues. From the initial surgery to the follow ups on the second surgery, I have had to have multiple conversations with billing/admin with me stating the same thing over and over again. They tell me that I need to submit an insurance card, I respond that we do not receive those [as veterans getting medical care through the VA]. I explained multiple times that VA community care sent out a referral and that it is fully paid by TriWest and have even called community care, where they informed me that ALL the information needed is in the referral. Community care sends the referral again noting that this is all the information that was needed for my care. I received my first surgery at the beginning of April 2025, had my post op appts and go into my second surgery 4wks later in June 2025. At various points, I get the same push back from billing/admin with more [frustrated] follow up calls to Community Care about the pushback. After my second surgery, I receive a bill from Methodist through their MyChart program, I contacted Community care and they immediately clear up those charges. My last appt (12Sept25) was made due to still having residual issues from the second surgery. Upon arrival at the clinic, I go through the same "we need a copy of the insurance card" routine BUT this time, they REFUSE me from attending my appt. I called community care once again to tell them what had happened, submitted a message through the MyChart system requesting a new appt (and attached the information from my referral in the message). It is now 22Sept25, and I have not received a response to set up further appts. My residual issues specifically affect my duties/tasks as a firefighter/paramedic, the time on my referral is close to expiration now and I am left to find other sources/solutions for these issues. From where I stand, it appears that Methodist does not properly educate their staff about how to properly handle patients who are fully funded by the VA system. And what really bothers me is that I know my records show that all of my bills are handled, and also what source (TriWest) handled the bill ...
