We saw the reviews on here and decided to trek out to Harburg to try this place out. It's actually not in a bad part of town so don't worry about coming out here. We found a parking space right outside the door and were easily able to find it. There's a bunch of reviews available about this place already so I will keep it short and specific.
We liked the decor as it's very Spanish and quaint. There's also the expected Spanish music in the background and the owner obviously is Spanish. Without specifics, ambiance is nice and comfortable. Further, it's a large enough room but has its quiet corners so everyone should be able to find seating to their liking. Finally, it's not lit up like a cafeteriaintimate lighting. All good!
We had a bit of a hiccup with the dry-aged steak I ordered. I found it too sinewy and rough. The owner personally came out to explain that the quality of the German beef he is able to get simply isn't up to par with US-Grade beef I am used to. He then proceeded to make me a regular Entrecôte which was OK. It was my mistake for expecting US-Grade dry-aged beef at their price point. What matters is that the owner handled the situation in an exemplary manner. Even when the bill came, there were no complaints and an espresso was thrown in for free after paying.
Even funnier he explained to us that he's never sold more garlic soup than after the first person on here wrote about it, some couple in from China or something like that. There are plenty of other great starters. We had the garlic soup and it really is good but don't forget there are also other great things on the menu. My girlfriend's salmon with pepper sauce was really tasty and she was more than satisfied.
In summary, this place is about service and a comfortable, relaxing atmosphere. The politeness and professionalism of the staff tops off the qualities of Meson Galicia. The menu is extensive and there are some hits (and some misses) but everyone has their own tastes. Again, at this price point, you can't be expecting gourmet fare. We'll be back for sure.
Update (04.06.12): I unfortunately pulled out my receipt from my wallet and decided to give it a quick look. Unrfortunately, they did make a mistake. They billed me for the Entrecote and not the dry-aged beef but instead messed up the fish order which my girlfriend ate. Ended up billing us for a more expensive dish than what she ate. Whether this was intentional or not I do not know. I won't dock them any stars for this and keep my four-star rating but check your bill. I'm just a bit peeved since I gave them a big tip too. read more
