It seems that the smog check notices are arriving more and more often in the DMV Registration notices! I have been going to Mesa Smog for the past 6 years or so and I highly recommend this place! There is hardly ever a wait, they check your car in really fast, the wait is usually 10-15 minutes and they have a Pass or Free Retest guarantee (as most authorized smog facilities do). I like not dealing with googly-eyed auto mechanics as I've found in some repair shops, there is a great Burger place next door with awesome breakfast burritos, or you can just walk over and grab an icy soda while you wait. Talk about quick service. Dropped my car off and walk to In n Out Burger for lunch. I realized I didn't give the tech my car keys. So went back to the shop with my lunch to go and gave the tech my keys. After 15 minutes he said I was done and gave me my keys. I didn't even get a chance to finish my burger. Love this place, Quick, Friendly & Upfront!! The owner Danny, here always treats me and my family with great customer service. My parents are both elderly and have a hard time communicating, and everyone here is really nice and patient. They are fast workers, they always try to get us in and out FAST, but sometimes they get super busy because this place is awesome. Great service .called the night before to check best time to bring my car in ,was told early morning,arrived 8:30 am next day and no wait. They smog checked my car ,sent certificate to DMV and charged me $65.00 including certificate.My car is a 1982 so it was slightly higher . Still Mesa smog was $25.00 less then their competition. I have been using Mesa Smog for the last several years. It is right accross from the DMV in Costa Mesa. The place is a test only facility, no repairs. Every time I go there I am greeted quickly, I never have to wait as they have more than one bay. I am in and out in 15 minutes with no fuss. The service is no frills but who gives a crap. I am all for any business that does good work and gets me in and out quickly!!!! It is a few dollars more than other places but when you take into consideration that my time is valuable to me, it is actually cheaper than having to sit around a cheaper place for an hour or two. I will continue to go back to Mesa Smog and pay a few more dollars as long as they keep offering a quality and FAST service. read more

This owner is so rude. Don't go here. He yelled at my dad (a 84 yrs old) for asking him simple questions of what's failed and where to go for repair. I brought the car back for retest and he started yelling at me too. I have to tell him to calm down and lower his voice but he continued to be a jerk and won't retest the car. I used to run a test a Smog Check test and repair station about a mile away from Mesa Smog. Because I run a test and repair station I can not test cars that are required to go to a test only station. That means I have to take mine to someone that I trust to do the job. Even those of us with a smog license have to take them somewhere when it's test only. This is the price you pay for living in California... Hey, there is always Mississippi... If I had to return to California I would still take my cars to Mesa Smog. They are fast and you get a fair shake. I still talk to the owner as a fellow tech seeing how the program is doing as well as changes that it has gone through. I can tell you that he is not having a good time, EVAP testing will drive you to drink. As a tech in a station the BAR sends in undercover cars to see if you make a mistake, miss something or fudge the test and they are ready to impose hefty fines and cancel your ticket and turn your large investment in to a large loss.. I spent 20 years in the program, Mesa Smog is a place I trust as a customer. read more

Very simple -this place sucks! They charge more than others and the guy has attitude. I just moved to California and went here because of its proximity to motor vehicles. My check engine light was on but they tested the car anyway and failed me (passed for everything else). Everyone I've talked to since was surprised that they would even run the test, most places will just tell you to get that fixed first. When I asked a question the little guy in the office gave me attitude. By the time I got the light fixed it had been a couple of days over their 30-day free re-test policy. I called in and again got attitude, the guy told me that the computer won't let them run the re-test after 30 days, that I'd have to pay the full amount (~$60). I'll never go there again and hope you don't either. I went elsewhere and had the test run for $45 (and was treated well, as every paying customer should be) So, you can get the same test for less by nice people, why bother we these jerks! read more

I asked him a simple question, all he said was thank you and didn't answer me, when I asked him again he started yelling and throwig a tantrum. Was searching around for a smog station near my house. Tried using the coupons i received in the mail. They were all quoting me different prices, and the coupon was a scam. I called Mesa Smog, they were straight shooters! when i got there, the were already waving me into the smog bay. He had a sheet with all the prices printed out, none of the (oh, you have a nice car, i'm charging you more crap!) No bait and switch, just up front customer service. Was the fastest, most efficient smog I have ever received and the price was cheaper without a coupon, than any other place WITH a coupon. ****RIP OFF*** Initially Mesa smog said my 86 Mercedes 300 E which I take great care of passed the emissions part of the test but Mesa failed my car anyway upon a visual inspection of the gas cap!! What a joke I knew it was gonna be one of those days when I saw a one armed man errr bandit doing the inspection. Probably lost it dealing off the bottom of the deck in some card room. Anyhow my car initially passed the emissions part of the smog test but Mesa failed me do to a VISUAL inspection of my gas cap...yeah you heard right a visual inspection of my gas cap. I went and replaced the gas cap and took it back to Mesa. Now Mesa Smog says my car failed the emissions with the new cap. Mesa charged me anyhow....Remember I told you stay to away from these guys. They are crooked. And the little man that runs the place seemed almost to delight in telling me I had to pay anyhow. Tired of looking up at the world no doubt. Consequently I had the same car smogged 30 minuets later around the corner and low and behold my car passed no problem. That guy went on to tell me that Mesa smog fails folks all the time with older cars. And lots of people are unhappy with them. And that I had no chance when I pulled in with my 86 mercedes 300 E. He went on to say that failing a certain number cars helps keep the state regulators off Mesa's back and gives them a higher rating. My husband and I have bringing both of our cars here for the better part of 10 years. Danny is always courteous, friendly and efficient. When my husband's car failed last year, the first thing he asked him was if he'd gotten a new battery recently, which he had, and told him that would cause the car to fail until it had at least 100 miles of driving on it. Who knew!! We could have been ripped off by unscrupulous repairman trying to figure out why it failed! After my husband put a few more miles on the car he took it back for the free re-test and it passed - no problem. We love Mesa Smog! read more

My family has been coming here for the better part of a decade. They are right across the street from the Costa Mesa DMV. The staff is friendly, quick, and upfront. For a car or truck it is $60 out the door. The test takes about 15min with no line of customers. Even though I moved farther way I still come back here because the DMV always has received their results and no issues like some places have. I just moved to California and had to register at the DMV and get my car smog tested. This was the first location I saw as very close to the DMV. I lived in California about 3 years ago and passed the smog test with my same car, but was failed here. Cost was $50.75 and nothing to show for it. I guess they were just doing their job. The customer service was initially good, they got me in quickly and were polite. If I passed I'm sure I would be happy, but I failed and after that they were not very helpful on where to take my vehicle and short with me and not understanding. I understand though they can't refer due to laws and they also offered free retest within 30 days, but they can't do any repairs there. read more

I would not recommend Mesa Smog. The service person (who appears to be the owner) is rude and not at all helpful. When my car didn't pass the test, he would not explain the test results and was angry that I asked. I went to Superior Smog Center on Harbor Blvd. and my car still didn't pass. But the people at Superior told me why and what I should do to get help. read more

These guys are a Test Only Smog Station. They aren't trying to up sell you on a tune up or fuel additive you don't need. Either you pass or you have 30 days to come back and try again. I have been using this shop for 5 years now. I called Wednesday to see what time they closed. Told the hours and to be in 10 minutes prior to closing time. Drove down handed them my keys and ten minutes later Smog Check certificate in hand I was on my way. I have never experienced such professionalism from any other Smog Place. read more

I came here for the first time and was surprised with how quickly the smog check was over. They don't have coupons on yelp, but they do have coupons in local value packs. For a car that is 11 years old and newer the total cost is about $60 and your smog certificate is sent electronically to the DMV for you. They will test you and charge you even if he knows hes gonna fail your visual just so u come back. Then they find something else wrong. Trust me go to costa mesa smog.
