I've been using the place for years. They get you in and out quickly, usually within 15 minutes of driving in. All they do is smog checks, and they make it hazzle free. As an added bonus, it's right next to a TK Burgers! read more

I would give them minus stars if I could and would net recommend them to anyone. I took my 95 Ford Bronco in for a test and it passed the smog part but failed the EVAP test. They described it as a gross pressure leak and told me to get it fixed and come back for a free retest. They charged me $47.75 for the test. I then went to a test and repair star station and they charged me $144 to diagnose and test the EVAP system. They said it held pressure fine and there were no leaks. They did 0 repairs. Back to Mesa Smog for the free retest and it failed again. I then went back to the test and repair station and let them do the smog test for $50.00 and it passed no problem. Back to Mesa Smog immediately to complain and was denied a refund for their test. It cost me total of $242.19 to get a car which should have passed the first time smogged. I then filed a complaint with the Bureau of Automotive Repair and they went to Mesa Smog and they still denied any me compensation. I think that when they did the EVAP test they clamped off the wrong hose. So does the tech at the test and repair station and the guy from the BAR. I got screwed by by Mesa Smog. read more

It seems that the smog check notices are arriving more and more often in the DMV Registration notices! I have been going to Mesa Smog for the past 6 years or so and I highly recommend this place! There is hardly ever a wait, they check your car in really fast, the wait is usually 10-15 minutes and they have a Pass or Free Retest guarantee (as most authorized smog facilities do). I like not dealing with googly-eyed auto mechanics as I've found in some repair shops, there is a great Burger place next door with awesome breakfast burritos, or you can just walk over and grab an icy soda while you wait. The local flavor is abundant in Westside Costa Mesa - why go anyplace else? Mesa Smog does smog checks exclusively! I love that...nothing complicated - just the facts! read more

Talk about quick service. Dropped my car off and walk to In n Out Burger for lunch. I realized I didn't give the tech my car keys. So went back to the shop with my lunch to go and gave the tech my keys. After 15 minutes he said I was done and gave me my keys. I didn't even get a chance to finish my burger. That's how fast their service was. Fast, and Friendly! read more

I was recommended to this place by Porsche. I don't get the negative reviews. The owner/manager was very nice and actually answered all my questions thoroughly. I had a strange issue with my car which required me to go back and forth to Porsche dealership and back to smog station. He even went as far as communicating with the Porsche techs over the phone until my issue was finally resolved and I was able to pass smog. The smog station closer to my house refused to even preform the test on my car because "he doesn't mess with these cars". I have yet to figure out what he meant so I obviously gave them a 2 star. But this place was 5 star on my book today. read more

I like their prices but the owner is a rude SOB. Two years ago I needed a smog check and had a question for him. He was so rude I called him out on his behavior. Then it got really bad with yelling back and forth. This is one angry dude with a volcanic temper that will explode at anything. Recently I was in town and decided to go back for another try but this time I avoided saying anything that would set him off, paid my money and had a simple question. A question he has probably heard many times before. I asked my question with a calm sounding voice. His response was sarcastic using words like, "you asked me a question, and I answered it". I now wish I went somewhere else. read more

Love this place, Quick, Friendly & Upfront!! The owner Danny, here always treats me and my family with great customer service. My parents are both elderly and have a hard time communicating, and everyone here is really nice and patient. They are fast workers, they always try to get us in and out FAST, but sometimes they get super busy because this place is awesome. I have been coming here for a very long time, since i was a little kid, and I'm 25 now so they ate obviously doing a great job because my family is satisfied... now that I have my own car since 5 years ago now I have to take care of it by bringing it to the people I know will do an A+ job here. My name is Mitzi Hermann & I approve this message! :) read more

I have been using Mesa Smog for the last several years. It is right accross from the DMV in Costa Mesa. The place is a test only facility, no repairs. Every time I go there I am greeted quickly, I never have to wait as they have more than one bay. I am in and out in 15 minutes with no fuss. The service is no frills but who gives a crap. I am all for any business that does good work and gets me in and out quickly!!!! It is a few dollars more than other places but when you take into consideration that my time is valuable to me, it is actually cheaper than having to sit around a cheaper place for an hour or two. I will continue to go back to Mesa Smog and pay a few more dollars as long as they keep offering a quality and FAST service. read more

Great Service, friendly, and helpful. The car was smogged in less than 15 minutes and the coupon was a plus! Will use them again!

Great service .called the night before to check best time to bring my car in ,was told early morning, arrived 8:30 am next day and no wait. They smog checked my car ,sent certificate to DMV and charged me $65.00 including certificate. My car is a 1982 so it was slightly higher . Still Mesa smog was $25.00 less then their competition. I was in and out in 20 minutes , nice and professional,l will be back ! read more

So so... they're pretty quick about the check, but the manager wasn't all that cheerful. He got upset, when I was checking out my vacuum lines in the parking lot. I understand if you have a policy, but if it's not posted on the wall or anything, at least be nice about it. As the stars say... meh, I've experienced better. :) read more

I used to run a test a Smog Check test and repair station about a mile away from Mesa Smog. Because I run a test and repair station I can not test cars that are required to go to a test only station. That means I have to take mine to someone that I trust to do the job. Even those of us with a smog license have to take them somewhere when it's test only. This is the price you pay for living in California... Hey, there is always Mississippi... If I had to return to California I would still take my cars to Mesa Smog. They are fast and you get a fair shake. I still talk to the owner as a fellow tech seeing how the program is doing as well as changes that it has gone through. I can tell you that he is not having a good time, EVAP testing will drive you to drink. As a tech in a station the BAR sends in undercover cars to see if you make a mistake, miss something or fudge the test and they are ready to impose hefty fines and cancel your ticket and turn your large investment in to a large loss.. I spent 20 years in the program, Mesa Smog is a place I trust as a customer. read more

Mesa Smog was efficient and explained the DMV paperwork well. I also thought the piece was very reasonable. They gave me a discount because I found them on yelp. read more

Very simple -this place sucks! They charge more than others and the guy has attitude. I just moved to California and went here because of its proximity to motor vehicles. My check engine light was on but they tested the car anyway and failed me (passed for everything else). Everyone I've talked to since was surprised that they would even run the test, most places will just tell you to get that fixed first. When I asked a question the little guy in the office gave me attitude. By the time I got the light fixed it had been a couple of days over their 30-day free re-test policy. I called in and again got attitude, the guy told me that the computer won't let them run the re-test after 30 days, that I'd have to pay the full amount (~$60). I'll never go there again and hope you don't either. I went elsewhere and had the test run for $45 (and was treated well, as every paying customer should be) So, you can get the same test for less by nice people, why bother we these jerks! read more

This owner is so rude. Don't go here. He yelled at my dad (a 84 yrs old) for asking him simple questions of what's failed and where to go for repair. I brought the car back for retest and he started yelling at me too. I have to tell him to calm down and lower his voice but he continued to be a jerk and won't retest the car. I reported this guy to Department of Consumer Affair. read more

Terrible place to go. The manager working there had the worst attitude I've ever seen! I asked him a simple question, all he said was thank you and didn't answer me, when I asked him again he started yelling and throwig a tantrum. Never in my life have I seen customer service so bad, I actually made an account on here to tell everyone how bad this place is. The owner should look at the guy in the office and fire him. read more

Very quick and efficient! I went with my mother and they parked the car so she could easily exit and rolled down the windows to cool down the car. Very professional and pleasant. In and out within 15 minutes. And they don't try to sell you anything! read more

Was searching around for a smog station near my house. Tried using the coupons i received in the mail. They were all quoting me different prices, and the coupon was a scam. I called Mesa Smog, they were straight shooters! when i got there, the were already waving me into the smog bay. He had a sheet with all the prices printed out, none of the (oh, you have a nice car, i'm charging you more crap!) No bait and switch, just up front customer service. Was the fastest, most efficient smog I have ever received and the price was cheaper without a coupon, than any other place WITH a coupon. Great job guys, this is how a business should be run! read more

****RIP OFF*** Initially Mesa smog said my 86 Mercedes 300 E which I take great care of passed the emissions part of the test but Mesa failed my car anyway upon a visual inspection of the gas cap!! What a joke I knew it was gonna be one of those days when I saw a one armed man errr bandit doing the inspection. Probably lost it dealing off the bottom of the deck in some card room. Anyhow my car initially passed the emissions part of the smog test but Mesa failed me do to a VISUAL inspection of my gas cap...yeah you heard right a visual inspection of my gas cap. I went and replaced the gas cap and took it back to Mesa. Now Mesa Smog says my car failed the emissions with the new cap. Mesa charged me anyhow....Remember I told you stay to away from these guys. They are crooked. And the little man that runs the place seemed almost to delight in telling me I had to pay anyhow. Tired of looking up at the world no doubt. Consequently I had the same car smogged 30 minuets later around the corner and low and behold my car passed no problem. That guy went on to tell me that Mesa smog fails folks all the time with older cars. And lots of people are unhappy with them. And that I had no chance when I pulled in with my 86 mercedes 300 E. He went on to say that failing a certain number cars helps keep the state regulators off Mesa's back and gives them a higher rating. I would hope people would not patronize this expensive & shady kind of shop PERIOD!. If you have an older car good luck. I tried to warn you. read more

I hate smog checks, but I love Mesa Smog. Danny makes the process painless. Almost wish I had more cars so I could patronize him more often. (Well, not really.) The routine is simple: drop the car off, grab a fish burrito at El Chinaco, come back and everything is done. read more

My husband and I have bringing both of our cars here for the better part of 10 years. Danny is always courteous, friendly and efficient. When my husband's car failed last year, the first thing he asked him was if he'd gotten a new battery recently, which he had, and told him that would cause the car to fail until it had at least 100 miles of driving on it. Who knew!! We could have been ripped off by unscrupulous repairman trying to figure out why it failed! After my husband put a few more miles on the car he took it back for the free re-test and it passed - no problem. We love Mesa Smog! read more

This place is great! They are fast, honor their coupons and don't work you. I was in and out in under 15 minutes. I would definately reccommend! read more

My family has been coming here for the better part of a decade. They are right across the street from the Costa Mesa DMV. The staff is friendly, quick, and upfront. For a car or truck it is $60 out the door. The test takes about 15min with no line of customers. Even though I moved farther way I still come back here because the DMV always has received their results and no issues like some places have. I recommend them to anyone needing a reliable smog test. read more

Dont come here!!! the Manager is extremely rude. My name is Mike and he kept calling me Miguel.

I just moved to California and had to register at the DMV and get my car smog tested. This was the first location I saw as very close to the DMV. I lived in California about 3 years ago and passed the smog test with my same car, but was failed here. Cost was $50.75 and nothing to show for it. I guess they were just doing their job. The customer service was initially good, they got me in quickly and were polite. If I passed I'm sure I would be happy, but I failed and after that they were not very helpful on where to take my vehicle and short with me and not understanding. I understand though they can't refer due to laws and they also offered free retest within 30 days, but they can't do any repairs there. read more

I would not recommend Mesa Smog. The service person (who appears to be the owner) is rude and not at all helpful. When my car didn't pass the test, he would not explain the test results and was angry that I asked. I went to Superior Smog Center on Harbor Blvd. and my car still didn't pass. But the people at Superior told me why and what I should do to get help. read more

Do not take your car here. They are extremely rude. There are plenty of people who deserve to get paid for the job they do and these guys do NOT. Really, you will be sorry!!! Even if they offered me a free smog check I wouldn't take it there. Zero stars..... read more

Was there a total of 45 minutes. Wish there was more room to sit, but the guys there are super fast and efficient. Not very expensive and they send results right over to the DMV. read more

Can a smog check be painless ? This is as close as it gets. In and out in 5 minutes. Simply amazing. Avoid all the others and just come here. read more

The previous reviewers had it right. Very impressive service. I was out with my certificate in 15 minutes. Yay!

These guys are a Test Only Smog Station. They aren't trying to up sell you on a tune up or fuel additive you don't need. Either you pass or you have 30 days to come back and try again. I have been using this shop for 5 years now. I called Wednesday to see what time they closed. Told the hours and to be in 10 minutes prior to closing time. Drove down handed them my keys and ten minutes later Smog Check certificate in hand I was on my way. I have never experienced such professionalism from any other Smog Place. read more

Great fast service all the time. Been coming here for years and they always have the right equipment for any type of car old or new. My old car used to not be able to get smogged due to equipment at other places but this place can do anything. read more

freakin awesome service! i have been coming here for years and finally have the chance to write a review. the staff is especially helpful, courteous, and friendly. they usually greet you as you drive your car into their lot. the staff is extremely efficient and try to get you out as soon as possible. as others have stated that it is a little bit more expensive than other establishments, but you get what you pay for and here you get spectacular customer service. read more

I came here for the first time and was surprised with how quickly the smog check was over. They don't have coupons on yelp, but they do have coupons in local value packs. For a car that is 11 years old and newer the total cost is about $60 and your smog certificate is sent electronically to the DMV for you. Lucky for me this place was right across the street from the DMV and wasn't very busy. read more

The guys here were great! They greeted me as I got out of my car and took care of everything from there. Very polite, informative, and expedient service. Recommendation: Go anytime after 4PM, as that is when business is slower. I went at 5:15pm and the entire process from parking til driving away was about 15 minutes! read more

Be warned! Dont come here. Its horrible. They dont answer any questions and the owner and his emploees are horrible. They will test you and charge you even if he knows hes gonna fail your visual just so u come back. Then they find something else wrong. Trust me go to costa mesa smog. Its right up the street on orange and 17th. You will get treated so much better and not to mention its cheaper. Mesa smog is a joke, dont know how their still in business. They will cheat you. Best smog check ever. They had been recommended by another John Cooper Works MINI (R53) owner and since I had the day off... Called ahead, owner said 5 min wait. Been bringing all my cars here for years. They are fast and courteous. I highly recomend

I have been taking about 5 cars a year here for at least 10 years and they've always gotten me in and out fast and been very professional. I can't imagine going anywhere else. I've gotten to know Danny and the staff and they have shared how incredibly nasty people can get when their cars don't pass. I wonder about some of the negative reviews I see on here and is it Mesa Smog that's rude or the customer? They've always treated me very well. And yes my trucks don't always pass. read more
