I haven't been to the Mesa Public Library in two months. I was surprised and happy to see that they now have solar panels in the parking lot. This addition supports the cities renewable energy desires. It also will provide shaded spots for the vehicles parked in their lot. When I moved to Mesa, one of the first things that I did was apply for a library card. I love my local library and checking out books and videos. When my book shelf got too full years back, I switched to checking out books at the library. This is Mesa Public Library's downtown location and also their main branch. Mesa has three other locations with two more being planned later this year. The downtown branch has two levels. You can reserve a book online at any of their locations and they will hold it at the branch of your choosing. You can also check out audio books on their app. The staff here has always been very helpful. Mesa Public Library is big into community outreach and you can submit your event on their website. read more

An older but quite big and comprehensive library in downtown Mesa. The surroundings aren't the best neighborhood, but the library itself is pretty good. Parking has plentiful but can get pretty crowded. They recently installed solar panel parking carports so it's much cooler to park now. Apparently there's a pretty bad homeless loitering problem here, but we didn't see any of them while we were there, but we only stopped by for a short while this time. We like the kids area which is very kids friendly with tons of books, lots of colorful walls and designs, cool reading books kids can crawl into to read. There's also a Maker Place for creative arts, crafts, and invention projects using equipment they provide like 3D printers and sewing machines etc. You do have to go through online training before you can use the tools there, but there's also staff and volunteers onsite to assist you. I'm not as familiar with the rest of the library, but it's big and there's a lot of books and resources for everyone. read more

I took my 6 year old grandson to the Mesa Library for the first time. He had such a great time. There are many activities for children to participate in along with reading and checking out books. The library is clean, inviting and staffed with friendly people. We had a great visit! read more

I came in just to renew my library card. I was so excited to see how inclusive it is for everyone. Children, Tweens/Teens, Adults, with access to amazing books, music, movies, and crafts! Honestly , it's so exciting to see how much the library has to offer for the community. That includes a Seed Library! Meeting spaces, classes, crafting, and the computers are available to search and use. I highly recommend visiting this year and enjoying all it has to offer. Surprisingly nice library in downtown Mesa off MLK Jr Rd. Building is older but it looks like they've remodeled the inside. The kids section is really clean, colorful, and well designed. All areas look neat and organized and not cluttered or dirty. I only used the kids area bathroom and it was very clean. There's a lot of programs and events put on every month for all the Mesa libraries. This one also has a maker lab of sorts and a teen hangout place. Overall, I was impressed by this library, it's not as ritzy as Scottsdale libraries, but the books are plentiful all the same and the facilities more than sufficient and very comfortable. They also have long hours like till 8 pm on weekdays! read more

Stopped in Tuesday to kill time between airbnb checkout and my flight. I was expecting to be at some sea of computers in a chair.... Imagine my surprise when I saw no such thing and better yet... comfortable lounge type chairs! What a comfortable environment to just relax! I was surprised to see a pop machine... but it had energy drinks and Gatorade; great options! I couldn't believe how quiet it was! There was only one man that got on his cellphone, thankfully short lived. I appreciated this bench type area between the bathrooms and exit door... which are sliding doors....another thanks! I felt it was a comfortable temperature here and smiled when I noticed the ceiling fans above the book check out area. I appreciated the colorful staircase...not boring white. I have no picture but I loved that upon entering the library there were a few signs for CBI(?) services for those experiencing homelessness! What a great library, like none I've ever been to before. Thanks for providing a comfortable environment to quietly pass some time reading a book. read more

I really appreciate living so close to the Mesa Community Library! It offers a lot of great resources and tools for the local community. Though I love the paper book selection itself, you're also able to take advantage of their audio or e-book selection as well online. They will source books from all Phoenix area libraries, which is wonderful if you need something they do not have on site. You can also do this all online and pick up as needed. In addition, they have private rooms for reservation, free to card holders to work on projects or meet with groups. They also have the 3D printed, a laser cutter in addition sewing machine and classes for above skills. During the pandemic they also setup a pick up process to allow people to enjoy some reading still, which is another great strive they did for Mesa area residents. read more

Very spacious and clean facility. My kids loved the small arched entry into the children's area. Lots of space to explore, and my teen told me that their Teen Zone was very impressive compared to the libraries of our Las Vegas, and New York City. Super nice library. I feel like the libraries in the east valley typically impress me! This is a big library, plenty of spaces for people of all ages to read/work/etc. They have a big selection of books and you can even get seeds here for your garden. Definitely recommend coming here, good place to escape the heat! read more

Easy parking which is helpful because downtown Mesa parking can be inconvenient. We'll laid out library and has a great Maker's lab/Steam area for projects. Staff is friendly! They offer a variety of classes and activities. I attended a book club that encouraged you to bring a craft to work on during discussion, which had a lot of nice ladies. read more

Silence doesn't exist Not trying to be mean but there are people who just play music on their phone and have long conversation right at my ears. Hence, I went to the librarian and complained so that they can help me quiet these rude people down. I wouldn't mind you having at most 5 minute conversation but if it takes longer that than to get whatever your point across, please go outside and talk. Pros? The library is very spacious and offers many tables. There are 2 security guards available so honestly, if I have to complain again, I will go directly straight to the guards so they can kick loud people out Cons? How can the parking only lasts for 3 hours? I spend 8 hours in the library often and I'm scared that my car being towed so I have to move my car every 3 hours. read more

When I visited, the second floor was pretty quiet. I could hear my shoes rapping on the wood floor. I wish they had carpet there so I would not be so noisy when I walk. The first floor is a bit noisier with people talking to the employees and the kids in the children's books area. The first floor has the culture passes while the second floor has the seed library. For the summer reading program, you can pick up the bookmark from the helpers or volunteers in the kids section area. There are often a lot of people sleeping on the couches. I feel a bit weird about that. Sometimes there are people hanging around in the front watching people come and go from the library. It's a nice library. read more

I love libraries and book stores. Go to all I possibly can. Recently went to the Mesa Library and it's a nice library but the one thing that stood out was the noise. Very loud. People talking on their phones, talking to each other, the only person I saw who was actually trying to make an attempt to follow what I always felt were the "rules of a library" was a young father trying to keep his two children from running around. When I asked the lady at the desk "how does anyone study here"? She told me there was an area over in the back where it would be quieter. I have hung out at the Gilbert public library and love it. Went here for the first time today. Just not the same vibe and in the computer area, there were two moms with little kids being very noisy and the staff seemed not to care in the slightest. read more

We love books around here, but recently realized if we wanted to still have a place to sleep, we needed to cut down on our rapid accumulation practices. We agreed that from now on we'll "rent" books first, and only buy them if we can't live without them. So far, the Mesa main branch has had every book we've wanted, with little -- and sometimes no -- wait times. The library is clean and well-organized, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. There's free wireless internet and computer access, and their magazine collection is pretty great, too. So far, haven't seen many signs of recent cutbacks and layoffs, other than reduced hours and the fact they're now closed on Sundays. Also, although they're pretty good about emailing due-date reminders, it's not foolproof so be sure to keep track to avoid the $.25/day per book fines. Thanks Mesa -- we love our library! read more

What a great library. The children's section in quite large and the staff is always helpful. There are some computers for the kids with games, and a play area for smaller kids. We haven't come to any of the events but there are kids craft days that sound fun. The whole library is well organized, easy to find what you are looking for if you don't have much time. However if you do have a lot of time on your hands, there's a lot of seating and room to read. I'm sure we'll be here a lot in the summer. read more

Never a lack of events going on and a great selection of literature, videos, and "stuff" you can checkout. I am a stay at home mom right now and I LOVE the baby lapsit events and we love coming to the library to read and make friends and learn. I think the library is very organized when it comes to all the different programs it operates and truly creates a place of learning and promotes trying new things. Also it's very clean and I've been to a couple of the different locations and they are both so nice! I tell everyone to go! Take advantage of all the perks of your library card too!! read more

First off this library is BIG. That's a good thing, it means you should have no problem finding some good books. You may have to hike around a bit, but that just means you get some exercise in while you're hunting down that novel you're looking for. I've found some really interesting things when I was strolling the aisles (what else are you going to do when you don't know what you're looking for?). The best thing I stumbled upon was like the amazing VHS collection! Luckily I found a little TV/VHS combo to put this little section to good use. read more

We had a good time here the other day. It's smaller then the Tempe location, but I like that because it is easier to keep an eye on my kids!! They have a few blocks there and the people working behind the desks are really great with kids and helping us find books. read more

The library is big, with three floors including the basement, and a lot of room on each one. There's a huge selection of books, as well as movies, e-books, e-reader rentals and free music downloads. There's also free wi-fi and internet computers that you can use with a library card, and other computers you can use to write or make a presentation as long as you want. There are tons of other features, too, like the free passes to museums, book sales, and other resources. There's something for just about everyone here. The only gripe I have is that the wi-fi tends to be a bit spotty for me, but then, that could just be my netbook. read more

Grew up coming here.... But now the place is full of bums everywhere inside and out... I come here to study instead of going to the ASU's Student library because its too over crowed.....but there are days when someone brings their food inside and starts eating very lowdly..and then we got those teenagers using the public computers to listen to youtube videos very loud.....i once caught a bum trying to steal my laptop after i had came back to get a drink of water at the water fountain for a second...and when i reported him to the front desk, they didnt even kick him out... So be carefule where you leave your laptops are phones, ....oh and lets talk about the kids please.. Its nice they made a play area for the kids... But why have them all screaming around like if it was a playground???..i can literally still hear them from the private study room... But i blame both the parents for not calming their kids down and the employees for not telling the parents that they should calm their kids down. read more

Wow. I forgot that libraries existed. Until recently, when I wanted to get some travel guides for an upcoming European vacation. Then I thought, hmm... maybe a library would be a good idea. So I visited the Mesa library on my lunch hour and I was amazed at all the great books they have there. Seriously, there were all these brand-new, just-released hardcovers just sitting on tables, waiting for me to pick them up. I remember being a teenager and having to wait MONTHS to get new books. Now, apparently, because either a) no one reads or b) no one uses libraries or c) both, new books are readily available at the library. Well, good news for me. I also think the Mesa library may be a great place to pick up decent books because most of the patrons seem to be really, really old or homeless and possibly illiterate. I'm not trying to be snarky, it's just something that's quite clear from the moment you walk in. Overall, however, this is a very nice, well-stocked library. And you can even keep renewing your books on-line. Thanks to the Mesa library, I just may make it to the Yelp book club meeting this weekend... ! read more

This library has a good selection of books, esp newer ones. I usually don't have to wait long for new popular ones to hit the shelves. I like being able to use their website to have books reserved for me so all I have to do is pop in, grab them and I'm out the door in less than a minute. Their website is user friendly and they send you emails to remind you of due dates - very nice for a forgetful mind! read more

I can't afford my reading habit so end up here often. Lots of computers available if you don't have access at home. They also have a new program where you can "check out" passes to local museums. Some participants include Pueblo Grande, AZ Science Center, & the Botanical Gardens. This branch also has meeting rooms if you need space for a not for profit to meet up. read more

Fun place to take my 1.5year old. They have a toddler time with books, singing, and playtime. We go almost every week! They also have a kid play area. I would like to see the library get a wider selection of kids books, but we will keep coming either way read more
