Cabela's is so much more than an outdoor gear/hobby shop- This place is truly an experience!…read more I came knowing that they had an extensive gun and ammo collection that I would appreciate, but what I didn't know is that they carry supplies for any and every outdoor hobby you could possibly imagine- shooting, fishing, hunting, camping, boating, auto/ATV, among other hobbies (kayaking, birding, droning, metal detecting, and even rock polishing) as well as clothing, footwear, home goods/decor and don't forget the Bargain Cave! They even have a Deli and Grill so you can easily grab lunch/dinner and a cute little Fudge and Nut Shop where you can buy baked goods on the second floor. Needless to say, I spent about two hours aimlessly wandering around the store and could have easily spent more time here if I didn't have a prior obligation to attend. From the overall decor, elaborate taxidermy displays, giant aquariums and nearly endless amount of gear/supplies it's so easy to get lost in time and space inside of Cabela's that it almost seems like an alternate universe. I really appreciated the time they took to setup each taxidermy display scene to make the recreations appear as realistic as possible. The gun and ammo area is beyond extensive and it was fun to take a look at all of the guns I've been eyeing but have trouble finding in the average big box stores like Academy or Dick's. The folks who work here are extremely knowledgeable so it was also a great opportunity to get some questions that I had been pondering answered. They have a giant pond outside of the store fully stocked with fish and although I didn't have the chance to try it out at my last visit, I would love to give it a go next time around! I do wish they had an shooting range available, and they definitely have the space to add one in the future, but that is probably the only thing I could think of adding to this extremely well thought out store. They have a great selection of clothing and shoes, and a large area dedicated to pet supplies which I absolutely loved. It's hard to pick out a favorite area of the store because they're all pretty amazing. All in all I had a great time visiting Cabela's. Honestly if I lived in the Baton Rouge area I would probably be here Way more often than I should; and even though I don't I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

And pink camo isn't my style. But they do have an aquarium. I bought my boat at Bass Pro and Cabela's has a fraction of the boating selection, so there's that. Also, this is going to sound weird, but the ambiance at Bass Pro is dark lodge with an actual cabin and pond with fish in the middle of the store, while Cabela's has bright florescent lighting and an enormous regionally inappropriate mountain scene with giant taxidermied elk, deer and... a polar bear. Today I went to Hebert guns to purchase a scope for my Weatherby 300 Weatherby Magnum. I was told…read morethat they had everything that I needed for my Weatherby vanguard to mount the scope. Upon arrival I was given false information with regard to which scope would fit. In addition, they kept trying to sell me scope rings that were not catered to my specific firearm. After I left, I went to Jim's firearms and Bouy outfitters. Both did not have what I needed, but were way more helpful. While at Herbert's, I Was ignored and had some of the worst customer experience I've ever had in a firearm store. I left went home called both Weatherby and leupold. Within 10 minutes, I had the proper information necessary in order to mount the scopes. In addition, I had confirmation that the people behind the counter at Hebert's were incorrect in what they told me. I contacted Hebert's letting them know that I wanted to return the scope that I had bought not even an hour before and upgrade it to the 50 mm. I was told that they would not take the scope back that they have a no optics return policy. Even though I had just purchased it, and they remembered me, and I was not returning it. I was swapping it for a more Expensive version. This is my first ever Google review. It takes a lot for me to do this. However, I don't want anyone else to experience the level of incompetency or headache that I had to deal with with a bear guns. If I could remove the one star that I put on here I would. Immediately after getting off of a frustrating phone call with Hebert guns I contacted Puglia sporting goods in New Orleans. I was told that they would exchange my brand new scope from Hebert's and upgrade me to the 50 mm that I wanted and would include a bore site for free. This is why I only deal with Jim's firearms Bouy outfitters and Puglia sporting goods. Customer service services everything and when you go to a gun store and you talk to the "" experts you expect them to know what they're talking about. I would never ever recommend anyone shopping at a bear guns. It is not worth the little 20% savings that you may get. Because your frustrations and headaches will far outweigh that little bit of money that you save. They are absolutely awful. Even the manager jumped on the phone and got nasty with me. Not a good move. I will be reporting them to yelp. I will also be posting on Facebook and anywhere else that I can find tonight. I just needed to find a reputable gunsmith and completely by happenstance I did...Being left-handed I needed to get the magazine releases on my SAR B6P and SAR9 swapped over and didn't have the necessary tools or knowledge... Stopped in and dealt with the man himself and even though he didn't have familiarity with my specific weapons he said give him a day and he'd have them ready...A little over 3 hours later I get a call to come pick up my weapons... Price for his services were damn reasonable and both guns are now suited to me and my left handed sensibilities...I'll be back for more work as I've got a revolver that's not cycling consistently and I need it working right... A…read moremonth or so ago, I had a good friend of mine visit the shop to get a few of his pistol parts cerakoted and an optic mounted onto his slide. He had placed the cerakote order a week before getting the optic mounted. As the story goes, the typical owner was out of town when he went to get his optic mounted. The fill in guy, when mounting the optic, accidentally scratched the new finish on the top of the optic using a T handle screwdriver. My buddy had realized the accident after leaving that day. So, he called the shop back to see how it could be handled, hoping to get a minimum deal on the cerakote/ an apology. He did not. The fill in said to call back once the owner got into town and when he did he was met with a swift rude attitude. Instead of "hey man, I heard what had happened, I'm sorry, let's figure out how to make this right" he was met with " yeah, what do you want? A new optic?". The shop owner did order him a new optic and when it came in he was still acting like a total prick instead of treating my buddy like a human being. In the end, shop owner was out $400 and refused to cerakote the original parts that was agreed upon. I just feel as if the situation could have been handled differently considering it was an accident. Hostile attitude was unnecessary.
