I had been a client for four years and stuck with them mostly because there seemed to be limited options for salons tailoring to curly hair. I had wanted to try coloring my hair recently and booked with the salon owner who I thought would be more hands on in getting me the results I wanted. It took two visits to get the color I wanted and the attitude of the salon was not very empathetic or understanding. I also echo what others say about the hair cut only visit being pricey but you leave with frizzy, unruly hair. I'm used to situations where I felt my most confident after leaving a haircut and instead at Southern Curl, I would have to make the choice of spending over $200 to leave feeling put together vs doing the cut alone and just go straight home to wash and style my hair myself. I feel less alone reading other reviews that others got the same feeling of being a burden or nuisance. It is also pretty apparent that when you have a negative experience or feedback, the salon is quick to say goodbye and say you're not a good fit for them, again placing the blame on the client and not taking any ownership of what they could do better. As a business in the service industry, I would expect better customer service and sincerity.

Second, the cut: the cut you get allows you to only wear your hair exactly the way you walk out With no versatility. The cut is a "method" that does not take into account your face shape or lifestyle. and your hair will be wet-look curls, not soft curls. Last but not least: Three months after regular use of $300 of prescribed hair products, my hair was falling out by handfuls and had the texture of a horse's mane. I tossed them all, went back to Nioxin and Oribe products and my hair is soft and wavy again. This salon was a total loss for me. It might work for someone but it sent me away with I'll-advised products and a cut I'm still growing out of.

My review simply pointed out that she was charged for small braids and a blow dry WITHOUT being informed those would cost extra. Also if it was informed then they need to add it to the service list which they have not. Her hair was already relaxed and straightened, and there was zero communication about additional charges until checkout. This kind of pricing surprise is misleading and unacceptable. What's worse is that instead of taking accountability and improving their customer communication, they chose to silence me. That speaks volumes about how they handle constructive criticism. I have only had my hair braided 3 or 4 times but this pain was enough to make me never want to go again.. If you are tender headed, please choose another shop. Pros: 1. very very nice young lady braided my hair.she was very pleasant to talk to. 2. She was very willing and accommodating. She had immediate openings. 3. She is open 7 days a week. 4. Shop was clean and quiet Cons: 1. She was 35 mins late and didnt call. 2. She only accepts cash. I had to cash app her and she required me to pay for the fee for instant deposit which i dont feel is the responsibility of the client. I still tipped her. 3. Braids are VERY TIGHT. i am not very familiar with braids but i was told to take a pain pill prior to going so i didnt actually feel the pain until a few hrs afterwards. 2 days later and i was still popping pills. Very difficult to rest at night. My scalp is very irritated and i can feel a lot of bumps in the back of my head. After i return from the beach i will be removing these braids even though its a waste of money. 4. My braids dont look fresh. Im not sure what to do to correct it. The attached pic is from day one. I have strands of hair that are a lot longer than the rest of the braids. 5. Braids are spaced out and my scalp is showing. I am embarrassed. This shop did not work out for me. She was more expensive than my other shop and her braids do not look professional and after a week i am still in pain if i touch.
