I've been going here occasionally over many years. As you'd expect, some masseuses are better than others, but overall I have found they do a really nice job. While some other reviews have complained that massage is too deep or hard, I have always found that the masseuse checks in with me and adjusts the pressure to suit. $60 for a high quality hour massage seems like a real bargain. My boyfriend and I have had massages from this place in the past. Since we had not had a massage in over a year I decided it would be nice to go get one. We both received a great massage. The total bill was $120.00 so I tipped 18% on $60 each for each lady, $10 dollars each. When they were handed their tips I saw one of the ladies look at the other with a " look" on her face. My boyfriend asked,"is that not enough??" And one of the ladies nodded no that the tip was not enough. So he pulled out another $5 dollars and handed it over. This place is seriously underrated on Yelp. I received a Groupon from my husband as a birthday gift for Merritt Massage which is located by his work on Route 7. I looked it up and read some reviews but kept an open mind. To be honest I was expecting to experience at least one of the negative points in the reviews...but not even one instance came up!! My massage therapist proved every negative to be completely wrong. The therapists are really great and professional at their trade and use really great techniques. They have great heated beds for the massage that actually don't get too hot but keep you really comfortable through the experience. I got a 60-min swedish massage. If you address beforehand you would like less pressure they won't ignore your request. I told them I prefer less pressure and they gave me just the right amount I desired. The music was very fitting, the timing of all areas of massage worked out perfect. They use those nice hot cloths at the end to remove the massage oil which is another hidden perk and the prices are very affordable compared to most massage places! Because the price is more affordable of course you can't expect the same exact experience, aromas, and environment that the Red Door Spa gives you for the same massage at $150. I think some people have too high expectations of that sort of thing when this place is really strictly about the quality of the actual massage. I went for a prenatal massage last week and was probably one of the worst massage experiences I've ever had. This is actually my first time leaving a review on Yelp, so you can tell it was THAT bad. First, they had me put on a robe that was clearly not meant for a pregnant woman and had me sit alone in the room for 10 minutes soaking my feet in a bucket of hot water. So 10 minutes of my 50 minute massage was just soaking my feet? Also, it says they know how to do prenatal massage but the massage therapist kept telling me to lay on my back. I tried to explain to her that i couldn't do that (i am 37 weeks pregnant!!!) but her English wasn't good and she told me that it would be better on my back. Once i convinced her to do on my side, she had one tiny pillow between my legs but said there were no more pillows so i could hold one as well. She kept asking me if i wanted deep tissue (which again, a no no for prenatal). Then to top it off, their credit card machine didn't work at the end. So they had to manually copy my credit card information. Needless to say, i will not be back! read more

First is first, I left this place feeling great, may have been one of the best massages I have ever gotten, and I have gone to many other places. I came in with horrible lower back pain and left with almost no pain. However here are the cons: I told my massage therapist that I felt pain when she did one stroke repeatedly, she tried to put less pressure but it took her a few minutes to stop when I told her it was too painful. I'd been in desperate need of a deep-tissue massage for a while but had been putting it off due to lack of funds. When I saw there was a Groupon offering a 60-minute massage for $39 I immediately purchased it. I was greeted upon my arrival by the receptionist who also turned out to be my masseuse. I wish she had conducted an initial consultation to get an idea of my pain points etc etc... you know like they do every time you go anywhere else for a massage? I suppose this was because they don't speak English so I let it slide. Painful isn't even the right word to describe the experience...I am usually pretty good when it comes to "strong" massages.. I prefer them actually but this was brutal....from my head down to my ankles (my feet were neglected because I forgot to take off my socks - my fault). This woman was half my size but had the strength of a WWE wrestler. I knew she meant serious business when she stood up on the massage table for extra leverage and used her pointiest body parts (i.e. elbows) to press into my back with all of her body weight. On the plus side, they must have gotten the memo that customers were cold because that issue seemed to be fixed. Between the heating pad, the hot towels, and excruciating pain I was fortunately laying in a puddle of sweat by the end of the hour. Also, I was lucky that during my visit no kettle bell classes were taking place next door (it was noon on a Wednesday) but those walls are very thin so I can see how that can get very annoying. As a transplant from Manhattan to Norwalk, I was looking for an awesome walk-in massage place to replace my regular spot a block from my apt. in NYC and this one is the best I have found so far. I am very busy and want to be able to go get a massage at a moments notice, so walk-in feature is a must for me. I also like extremely hard massage on my tight upper back/shoulders and they delivered. Yes, it is no-frills, but I could care less. I went here once and it was ok..so when i saw it on living social i figured id try it again. worst experience i have ever had. i had to change my appointment, which the owner apparently did, but forgot to do in his computer system. when i arrived my voucher was marked as expired despite me changing my appointment. owner was extremely inappropriate and rude and did literally nothing to rectify the situation but tell me to call living social. I had a 90-minute massage because my shoulders were so tense from work. The massage was okay, she didnt ask any questions up front which surprised me. She kept rubbing each muscle over and over again until they hurt. Overall the experience was alright, I did feel more relaxed. Until the end, when the masseuse actually told me to "don't eat so much ice cream". Something about how I was more sensitive to pressure because I weigh about 200lbs. I always get a great massage here. Found this place on Groupon and they are perfect for when you need a good massage to relieve your stress and tensions. Its definitely not the nicest (decor wise) but its a no-frills great massage. Only suggestion is for the music in the room to be louder so that I can doze off and drown out any other noises I may here. read more

When I get a massage, I want to be able to relax - well when the massage room is next door to a Kettle Bell Gym you can forget about relaxing. The constant thumping of the weights hitting the floor was beyond annoying it was truly aggravating. Just as I 'd finally feel the good effects of the massage, THUMP THUMP THUMP - plus the music coming through the wall. I found out about Merritt Massage through Groupon, and had my first massage there today. My masseuse, Lucy, was outstanding. I asked her for a deep tissue massage and told her to press hard because my back, neck, and calves were loaded with knots. She asked several times if it was okay (I think she was worried that she was pressing to hard), and I told her she was doing perfectly (because she was). She asked if I wanted to add more time - she was doing such a great job that I said, "yes!". Instead of the 50 minutes I had originally scheduled, the massage went about 90 minutes. Great massage, possibly the best one I have ever had. The only negatives were that Lucy was called out of the room by somebody a couple of times during the session. Also, at the end she asked if I wanted to extend for 10 more minutes - I said yes, but then she came back after talking to somebody out front, and said that she couldn't. Finally, Lucy collected the fee, but I don't think anybody told her that I had already paid for the first 50 minutes with my Groupon. I was going to mention it to her, but she had to run out of the door (literally). Regardless, of the confusion at the end, I definitely plan to go to Merritt Massage again. read more

The therapist asked me if I wanted deep tissue which I did and told me to tell her if its to hard, which it wasn't. She may not speak excellent English but communicated fine. Its definitely not fancy in there, just a sheet to cover you, bare rooms and old still tables but it was warm enough and not loud when I was there. I have had really good massages here but also really bad and painful ones. The couples massage room is small but it's a nice experience. To get the massage you are looking for you have to tell them clearly what you want. Don't be afraid to ask and spell it out for them because theyre looking to please. "Swedish, concentrate on my neck and shoulders, medium level." The only down side to this place is that they spend the first half of the massage doing it through the sheet which feels terrible. read more

First time ever writing on yelp. The experience was extremely painful. Had the Swedish massage. Told the masseuse that I have degenerative disc disease on the last two vertebrae of my spine and not to go near there. I just wanted minimal pressure shoulder and neck work. She ended up putting so much pressure on my lower back that I actually asked to stop the massage for fear of a flare up. Two days later and I'm still in pain from a massage that I cut short from 60 mins to about 15. I've had many, many massages before but never one like this. I do not think they are trained properly. I absolutely love this place! $70 for an hour long massage (plus they always have coupons on their website) is an absolute steal in Fairfield County. As other reviewers have pointed out, it's without frills, but that's totally fine when I'm only paying $70! I've found they are really good about asking if they are giving enough pressure and responding adequately. (I like a lot of pressure, and they adjusted to my perfect level.) A couple days ago was my first time at the place since my regular was already closed by the time I got out of work. Likes: 1. My masseuse had a very nice personality, 2. Considering the physical condition I was in after playing 2 games of volleyball & 2 tennis matches immediately after, the massage was by far the best I've gotten. Dislikes: 1. I was given a room to lay down in and told a masseuse will be with me in a couple of minutes. Well, I already dozed off and woken up and still no masseuse. It probably took 12 - 15 minutes before my masseuse came in. 3. Someone kept on talking to my masseuse during my session. This went on for a few minutes and then again, 2 more times after that. 4. It was hard to relax coz of the boxing gym of the sort next door. 5. Room was a little bit on the cool side but I didnt say anything about it even though I was asked. This is really more on me. Overall, the massage is by far the best I've gotten and would go back just for that. However, the environment did not really give that relaxing of an atmosphere. read more
