A nurse from Merrill Gardens was supposed to meet our father at his inpatient rehab facility "this morning." She then changed the appointment to 2:00 PM. It's now 2:15 PM and she has neither come to the appointment nor called us. This is unacceptable. UPDATE: She did, in fact, show up, and was able to work with our father as planned. April provides for excellent service in the food service facility. April is a team payer that caters to the every need of the residents and guests of the facility. She gives her best in all she does. Not only is she polite and considerate but professional every day. read more

My 97 year old mother has been living the entire month of January with no hot water in her shower. They have continually said it's fixed but not one day in January 2024 has the been hot water for her to take a shower! My mother pays just under $4,000 a month for no hot water and no one fixing the problem! I had to place a police report today regarding the abuse and neglect! The food is inedible often under cooked or raw. The nurses have faulty thermometers and sent my mother to the ER because they said she had 105 degree temperature on a wellness check! That cost us close to $2,000 in unnecessary copayments. They have sent my mother to the hospital 3 times in 5 days for mental checks. The nurses and doctors both noted that my mother had defensive wounds not aggressive wounds as Merrill Gardens stated to the paramedics. The nurses at the hospital have reported to their supervisors of the unnecessary hospitalizations. I had to hire aides to stay with my mother for her physical, emotional, mental and financial protection from the staff at Merrill Gardens Madison for the 5 remaining days until her move out! We're really happy with Merrill Gardens! Mom's been here several months now with no complaints. The staff are really friendly and the nurses are especially helpful, too. I'm so very very happy to have this location which is soooooooo close to my house that I can see Mom more than ever now! P.S. sorry the picture is so out of focus. Heraclitus, a Greek philosopher, once wrote that "change is the only constant." His adage became so well known and popular that it was attributed to others, but it dates back farther than most people who quote it realize. History aside, change does occur--sometimes for the worse but often for the better. This review is going to concentrate on the latter, and I write it sincerely and happily. Nearly two months ago I wrote a scathing review of a facility where I am likely to wait for God, and I was freshly returned to that facility from seven weeks away with that time divided between hospital and rehab center. I was looking forward to sleeping in my own bed and perhaps eating some palatable food. The bed was waiting, but the food was not terribly enticing. I am delighted to report that the lack of management about which I complained has been stabilized because the temporary manager has become permanent manager and has taken the reins and is working hard to conduct her choir so that everyone is at least trying to sing in tune. As for the kitchen, it is still a work in progress--but "progress" is the key word. There have been a few failures, but the new chef is doing her best to make the dining room a place where residents gather not only to seek nourishment but the pleasure that is to be found in meals well conceived and equally well received. A monthly meeting with the chef and kitchen staff allows residents to share their thoughts, whether they be complaints or compliments. The fact that another such meeting is just a month away means that unresolved issues will be re-addressed but will not disappear unless they are corrected. All in all, there is yet hope that the original promise of Merrill Gardens as a place to spend one's declining years in safety and freedom from the tasks of running a household may be fulfilled. May it indeed be so! read more

Andrew, Community Relations Assistant, and Ardeanna have been just super. They are patient, kind, understand and very helpful. The residents are all so very nice and everyone seems to enjoy living there. It's a great location in Madison. The front desk receptionist is always so pleasant and friendly and the Activities Director really loves her job and cares for the residents. I love the all day dining option as this is not something offered at any other facility in Madison or Huntsville. The rates are the best I have found and I would recommend this facility! read more

I moved my parents to Merrill Gardens and moved them out shortly after. They had lived in another Assistant Living facility in different state and we loved it. The staff there was so friendly and helpful. We moved to Merrill Gardens because of the location and facilities and was hoping for the same type of environment. The only reason I am giving it two stars is because it is new and clean and the location is convenient. The management at Merrill Gardens was very disappointing. The food was marginal at best. The care my parents received was not what I wanted for my loved ones. Would not recommend. read more

After looking at different independent and assisted living facilities in our area, we decided that Merrill Gardens was the place for us and we have not been disappointed. The facilities are beautiful inside and out. Front office management, caregivers, and recreation area, the dining room are all well managed with courteous and helpful staff. Dining is available from 7am to 7pm with a wide selection on the menu. Extra amenities include church services, exercise classes, trips for shopping, doctors appointments. Our mom was in Merrill Gardens Assisted Living for 18 months. The services she received were outstanding. The staff is fantastic and extremely caring. We can only pray that she continues to receive the same degree of outstanding services in their memory care unit. Food seemed to be the only issue of resident complaints. read more

I agree with Ann. Food and Service is terrible. General Manager is terrible, rude and could careless about the residence. She is not skilled in Management nor customer service. Always has an excuse. Never follows up. Nursing staff is also lacking. read more
