Pretty on the outside - negligent on the inside…read more My mother was in the Monark Grove memory care facility from July to Nov 2023 - until we had to take her out. We had to instruct them to do simple things like: take her hearing aids out st bedtime, take her temp if you see her coughing, call the doc if she has edema, and change her sheets if she has an accident - none of these things were being done. We also found scatches on her arms which weren't being treated. I could go on. Staff appear to not have experience in a memory care facility. We found staff staring at their personal phones everytime we were there. The turnover among staff and managers is unbelievable. Maybe this is just the typical standard of care for this corp. She has been in another facility for 6+ months and the difference is night and day. Observing the staff in the new facility has shown us that Monsrk Grove is not just poorly run, but likely on their way to be investigated by the state.

We never had to worry that she was being taken care of. From Mary Overton, the facility admissions director to everyone from the aides, CNAs, nurses, and maintenance we were very satisfied with her care. She was treated with love and dignity in her last days.

She had never been combative EVER until she was constantly being awakend for vital checks, breathing treatments, etc. After 22 days, she was admitted to Madison Manor. I had requested several times that she be reduced on this medicine to at least half the dosage. That never happened. According to WebMD, Seroquel (quetiapine) is an atypical antipsychotic used to treat schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and sometimes major depression. It functions by balancing neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin, frequently causing sedation, dizziness, and weight gain. Key precautions include increased risk of death in elderly dementia patients, suicide risk in young adults, and potential metabolic changes. As far as I can see, my mother was given this drug because the Decatur Hospital staff and the Madison Manor staff found it an easy way to deal with patients that are not cooperating with their rough treatment. Mom had to be hospitalized at Madison Hospital for a hernia repair just last week. I told the hospital nurse that I want to get her off Seroquel. It finally happened when her attending doctor listened and got her off this unnecessary drug. She is now at home and returning to her normal, sweet disposition. I also found that she had a yeast infection which was pretty severe - from not being treated at Madison Manor.

We felt good about Tommy Anderson during his home visit and signed a contract to begin care on Monday, November 10, 2025. During our home visit with Tommy, it was emphasized several times about their extensive background checks of their caregivers and the contract even went further to say that they evaluated caregivers in other ways, such as psychological testing. The very first night, a caregiver came into our home, whom we liked immediately, but we discovered that she stole four diamond rings from my mother and my father's University of Alabama A club ring. We filed a police report and after 48 hours of me pleading and appealing to this caregiver, she returned the rings to me at my home. When we discovered that the rings were missing, we immediately did a simple Google search and found two mug shots of this caregiver and the police told us she had ten or more prior arrests, and that this company had dropped the ball. She had arrests as far back as 2021 until recent. I was told by Tommy and another employee that they did not understand why those did not show up on their background check. What an insult to my intelligence. Please beware of Home Care Assistance, because they obviously did not vet this employee at all.

They are the least honest businesses I've ever dealt with in my lifetime. There ethics, leadership, and home care services are horrendous. They believe they can do no wrongs. Wrong! Client health, well-being and safety is the furthest priority for this companI. There bottom line and utmost priority is profit at the customer's expense. Our experience with them was below low. I wouldn' recommend them to anyone. if I did recommend them to anyone, then it would be stay way clear of this outfit.

This is a brand new (opened maybe 2-4 months ago) memory care (dementia and Alzheimer's) facility that is the only all-female memory care facility in Madison County. Several things were impressive about this facility: rather than a cramped (think elevator sized) foyer area in which to wait to be let in, there are two amply covered double doors secured by a code by which you enter in to a sizeable lobby. The lobby opens into the massive common area which is easily 10 times the size of most facility's common areas! The ceilings are super high and there are ample 6 top round tables, a big screen TV, activities (bingo, Bible studies, friendship bracelet making, chair aerobics, journaling, ice cream socials, and more). The common area opens (via secured code) to a central courtyard, which, eventually would make a great space in which to have raised bed herb/vegetable gardens, lovely landscaping and comfy benches. Each resident could plant their own individual seeds and then transfer the plant to the raised garden! This facility is immaculate! The co/ed family restrooms in the common area are spotless and spacious! We didn't go to the back screened in porch or the dining hall; however, I look forward to seeing those during future visits. The screened in porch overlooks an older farm with horses and goats, and a lake that looks to be under renovation, meaning they have bush hogged it and I imagine they will add some benches there, also. My dear friend's husband raves about the meals here! He eats here with his wife at least once each weekend when he visits her. Every staff member we encountered were friendly, helpful, and polite! The resident's rooms are thoughtfully designed. My dear friend's room is "right-sized" for her needs, has 2 windows to the outdoors, a small closet, chest of drawers, bed and bedside table and has a shared living area with an adjacent, similar room that has a sofa and a door that closes to the inside hallway. The two rooms share a bathroom that is inside the door that closes. Outside, each resident has a sizeable framed glass covered "memory board" where they can display photographs and other personal items if they desire. Why no fifth star? I've been to numerous facilities of this type over the years and I noticed a couple of things: 1. I think the staff should be easily recognized by either wearing matching t-shirts, wearing scrubs, something to indicate they are staff and I think they should have a nametag with at least their first name on it. It was hard to tell who worked there and who were residents. 2. I am accustomed to signing in when I visit a friend or loved one, meaning, printing/signing my name, the date and time in and time out for my visit, and indicating if I am taking my loved one someplace. This just makes common sense. When my Momma was in Grandview Gardens they used that registry during fire drills and to notify another family member or loved one if they were calling to speak to Momma, and we went out to eat, for example. Other amenities I'm accustomed to seeing in these facilities that were absent here are a piano; baskets of snacks and individual sized cokes readily available for residents and guests, and bookshelves filled with books, puzzles, newspapers, and magazines. The piano was great when Christmas groups (or residents) wanted to play and lead sing-a-longs; the snacks are just a nice touch (especially when one doesn't have to ask a staffer to provide them); and the books/puzzles provide a stimulating activity for residents and guests. Since Carillion Oaks is so new, perhaps they will add additional amenities like mentioned above, and standardize the staff's attire. For now, it's a lovely, clean, friendly memory care that provides in-house therapy, paints the resident's nails, has an in-house salon, and apparently delicious meals. For my dear friend, Carillion Oaks is a big win!
