I tried the sea bass at Merrick Seafood today. The food itself was tasty, but the portion felt too small for the price. Unfortunately, there was a very loud band playing, which made it hard to enjoy a conversation with our friends--we found ourselves shouting just to be heard. That really took away from the experience and makes me hesitant to return. It seems many Cape Coral restaurants have live music, but in this case it felt more like a distraction than an enhancement. Stopped in for happy hour drinks and a snack. Sat at the outdoor bar where service was attentive and entertaining. The spicy margarita is on point and can be customized for (less) sweetness. We had the lump crab cake appetizer. The crab cakes were full of flavor, good sized pieces of crab, and not too bready. It should be noted that the price was the same as the attached seafood market with no upsell in cost for preparation/presentation. After our happy hour experience we popped to the seafood market to get fresh, local prawns to take home for dinner. The counter clerk did not mention the daily specials and we ended up buying more expensive prawns. Overall the seafood was fresh and the dining service was good- would recommend a stop here but be sure to check the daily specials. read more

Went to Merrick's for dinner while on vacation. Our waitress was the best part of Merrick's. She was attentive and on the spot for drink refills. We ordered the fried scallop dinner and fried clams dinner. I will say do not expect this to taste anything like New England style fried seafood. The batter was very heavy on the scallops and separated from the scallops when I went to cut into a scallop. The breading on the clams was very heavy. The waitress did offer to replace my scallops with something else as she could see how separated the batter was from the scallops, oddest fried seafood I have ever experienced. I did find that the menu was limited to my liking but what we did order was fresh. We sat outside and there was live music, it was so great, it made us feel like we were on some caribbean island. The first visit a couple months ago was really good! So we thought, let's go back! My husband ordered the lobster @ $49 and I ordered the fried oysters. The lobster got to the table COLD, and whatever they call 'butter' looks more like oil was cold as well. Our waitress was lovely, and said no problem, returned it back to the kitchen and 10 min. later out came another one. It was hot, but the "butter/oil" was cold. They just couldn't get it right. When we spend $100 on a dinner I really expect the food to be really good! My oysters were okay, but about 1/2 of what I got 2 months ago. So, for $26 I got maybe 10 fried oysters. When I spoke to the manager on duty, he said, I'm sorry. Thanks for that, but told him we would not be back. I guess they don't care about return business here. Be aware if you visit! read more

This restaurant was recommended to us by a long-time local, so we decided to check it out for lunch. I ordered the blueberry pomegranate margarita on the rocks. The flavor was okay, but I was a little disappointed it was not served in a margarita glass. Given that this establishment clearly goes the extra mile for food presentation, I would've thought that effort would also translate to their beverage service. For starters, we ordered a cup/mug of chowder, the wedge salad, and the coconut shrimp. All items were tasty. For entrées, Hubby spoiled me with a pound of Alaskan King Crab legs ($75, but it was my birthday) and he chose the Chilean Sea Bass. For mine, I wasn't asked what I wanted for sides; it just came with smashed potatoes and asparagus. For the sea bass, about a minute after it was delivered to our table, someone from the kitchen brought the topping that was supposed to be atop the fish. He said it left the kitchen before he had a chance to put it on. It was just a little awkward. All is all, the food was good, but we'll likely try out some of the other seafood restaurants on our list before returning. read more

Currently the front is under construction so it was hard to tell if they were even open. The walkway isn't marked and honestly was a bit dangerous as it was raining and the blacktop was slippery and there are no rails to hold on to. I had the fish and chips as did my dad. Mine was very good. You get a big piece of cod battered dipped and fried. Dad didn't like his as he said it tasted very fishy. The other two in our party had the lobster tails. Neither liked them, they said they didn't have much flavor. The inside has a small counter where you can buy the fresh seafood as well as a dining room and bar area. For desert we split the cheesecake and the bread pudding. Both were okay. The cheesecake is more dense like a cake vs creamy. The bread pudding was also dense like a cake. We visited early on a Friday evening and sat at the bar on the veranda, we very much enjoyed the space. Great vibe. First set of live entertainment was very pleasant and performed at an appropriate volume. Lobster bisque was the highlight of our meal, thick with lobster meat and delicious. Pine Island clams, quickly drownding on their ice bed and, unfortunately served along quite unfresh, incipit, horseradish and cocktail sauce, were fortunately saved by a decent mignonette. Lobster/crab spring rolls which, with obvious quality ingredients should have been the star of the show; disappointed with over oily wrappers. But, the real fly in the ointment was the service. After the soup was served we were forced to scavenge silverware setups from another table ourselves. When the clams and oysters were served we had to ask that seafood utensils be provided. Bar service and finished plate removal were quite slow, especipally qiven the very few other outdoor patrons. All in all I'd say that service couldn't be rated satisfactorily. I won't say we'll not ever visit again but we have no plans to do so soon. read more

Went for a late Friday lunch around 2 ish. Server came immediately when we were seated. We ordered our drinks. One of them was a Banana Cabana, Tito's and soda with 2 limes and an iced tea. The server was trying to be funny and said how about 3 limes . I said sure . The drinks came and the vodka soda had 1 lime , Banana Cabana definitely had an ingredient missing , I personally believe it was the cream coconut. Iced tea cane and we had asked for sweetener. Finally sweetener cane with the refill. So we got last that and ordered our meals. I ordered the Manhattan clam chowder . This came after our meals. Caesar salad . Shown in picture . Chef Ramsey would have been all over that. I asked if the kitchen had GREEN lettuce , she shrugged and said let me see. She never came back . We had to get up go inside and grab ketchup and get our own water out of the machine in the front. The manager or hostess was watching the whole time.... And it surely didn't cross her mind as to why a patron was serving themselves water and ketchup. I give this place 1 star and would not go back. the seafood market isn't good at all. The products are not fresh, and many times smelly. The shell fish such as clams/steamers are visibly dead in the show window, yet they were going to bag and sell them to me until I said, "there's a lot of dead ones in there. They then tried picking them out of the bag and finally decided to open a fresh cooler of them and sell me those. Also I've tried to purchase fish, swordfish, tuna, etc. They are also visible not fresh, discolored dull in appearance vice shiny, and the smelled. This is not the first time. I had to ask them if they had a piece that hasn't been on display and although they told me it's no different, they did go in the back and bring fresh fish. I've served as a food service inspector previously for years and they don't pass the test for fresh seafood. The market products are not "organoleptically" acceptable, meaning quality based on visual appearance (dull vice shiny), touch (soggy vice firm), smell (not fishy or smelly ), or taste (tastes spoiled). I used to go there all the time and loved it, no issues but once I noticed the change in quality I stopped For a few years. I finally decided to return when they remolded the outside dining area a few years ago. Same problem. I went the about 6 months ago, same problem. And I just went there in the last 2 weeks, same problem, spoiled/dead shellfish and smelly fish. Maybe what they serve for dinners is from a different batch of products and may be wonderful, but the Market that sells the raw food to take home is not fresh/not good/ not organoleptically acceptable to sight, smell, touch and taste. And the prices have doubled with a lot of products since just a few years ago since I've been there. I won't go there again. read more
