So as you're queuing before you pay they tend to ask down the queue to find out what people want so that they can get it ready for you in a decent time. The chips are awesome, and the portions aren't small. My favourite thing from here is the battered sausages, which I don't tend to like a great deal from other places but here they're great. On this occasion they only had one battered sausage ready (I wanted two - not for myself), and they cooked up the other one fresh for me while I was in the queue. They also having seating in the back, although I've never used it. I often think that the smell of the chips in here is one of the best things on earth. One of the finest chip shops out there, and I think it always deserves more credit in those best of London lists out there but I guess this is how chip shops were when I was a kid and it hasn't changed much since. Burlington's is the first place I had Fish and Chips in the UK. (I've been told it's better up north, but to date, I'm not sure I believe people, as what I've tried, really doesn't compare!) Burlington's also introduced me to Mushy Peas. I'm definitely a fan, and whenever I have out of the country visitors (who always seem to want to get Fish and Chips while they're in the UK for some reason), I always take them to Burlington's. It does help that it's near our place, but it is one of the better fish places I've been to. My partner and I can often get away with a starter and splitting a main because the portions are amazingly huge. The takeaway portions are smaller, but still quite good sized. I can't recommend it enough!

Firstly, it's pretty good value for money, and secondly, their chips are top notch. If it's 'paradise', well, I'll leave that up to you, but their fish cake was really quite tasty. I love the fact that this place has such high ceilings too. It means that by the time you leave with your take out order, you don't actually smell of fat or grease. They also serve up mushy peas which were pretty damn good as well as tartar sauce, although this is served up on those stupid packets for 20p each.

The shop itself always seems to be busy which is great because it means you don't get stuck with a piece of fish that has been resting under a heat lamp all day and your chips are still nice and crispy, not soggy with grease. Personally I'm not a fan of battered fish with its skin still on though because it never seems to crisp up nicely, it just gets a bit soggy. This is not a phenomena unique to the Paradise Fish Bar though so I do have to forgive it. Paradise is obviously very popular with a lot of the locals and school kids. On your walk up to Newington Green its rare not to see at least a few people holding bags of chips soaked in salt and vinegar. The service is always quick and friendly and the prices very reasonable. Paradise also makes a very welcome break from all the fried chicken chains which seem to dominate the area. I'd take fish, chips and mushy peas over greasy fried chicken and limp straw fries any day of the week.

It's a welcome relief from the various terrible kebab and chicken shops that otherwise swamp this part of London, this place sells chips not fries and reminds you, if only briefly, of walks along the sea-front, boater hats and donkey rides, in short it injects a good healthy dose of Britishness right into your arteries. I you happen to be walking by I thoroughly recommend this excellent little takeaway.

We both had the large orders. We had a nice waitress and she informed us they cook the food fresh so it would be about 10 or so minutes for the food to be cooked. We are perfectly fine with that if it means freshly cooked food! When the food arrived, the fish was super crisp and yummy and very hot (temperature) so be careful! It is served with a lemon wedge and a very small pack of Tartare Sauce. On the table is a vinegar container as well. Although that vinegar tasted weak or maybe it was just plain white vinegar. I do prefer the dark malt vinegar. Crown Fish & Chip Bar also serve up Gyros (Doner) and other fried foods. They have plenty of sides such as salad, mushy peas, etc. to add on to your meal. The real star here seem to be the fish n chips and they do it well. Thanks Crown Fish & Chip Bar for a pleasant lunch!
