Captain Jim said he would and was AMAZING. He was so knowledgeable about the island, from the first mention of it in Mariners logs, through to the native Americans and colonials. If you can find him-- look for the big black Mercedes van taxi, and make sure it's Captain Jim driving. He drove us around the island for about 90 minutes, telling us all the things. My 6 year old got a thorn from a raspberry bush as we were walking to the bluffs with him, and he stopped and explained why raspberries have thorns! We were lucky and saw 3 seals playing, 3 horses, 1 donkey, and a TON of birds. Just amazing. Go find him!! It was worth it!

She'll take you to the second bluffs and throughout town and you'll get to learn about the history of the island and even the politics of it a bit. We were visiting Block Island for the first time and Judy stopped to give us directions as we were…read morewalking the wrong way. She could tell we were lost as we had phone in hand using GPS. So very thoughtful for her to stop for us when she didn't have to. Days later, we wanted to do some hiking up island and Judy drove us. She was so very friendly and gave us some history of the island. She made sure to be available to us a few hours later after hiking. I will also go into detail a little more: 1) Remember where your boat is located. Just saying its right by the house doesn't help. There are plenty of houses near the harbor. 2) Be specific as to the model and features of the vessel. Looking for boat in the summer with a packed harbor will be like searching for a particular needle in a pile of needles. If you say something like, "white hull with a blue sail canvas" will not help... especially when other boats might have the same thing.
