Have ate here many times throughout my life figured I would take my wife here for a nice lunch which turned into 2.5hours of our afternoon waiting for our food and drinks. We watched many others come get their food finish and pay before we even got our second round of drinks, when we finally did get our food it was like warm at best. The server was very rude and unapologetic about the wait. I understand being busy but I don't believe that was the issue. From what we saw if you are not a local you are NOT a priority very sad to see don't know if we make the drive to visit again. read more

EAT HERE NOW - A chance to eat the unique southeastern SD regional cuisine chislic, and such warm and frequently hospitality make the trek to Meridian Corner 100% worth it!! We had never heard of chislic, but after reading about it and this place on the Food Network, we knew we would have to make a side trip here for lunch on the way to Bismarck ND. We are so glad we did!! We started with a Grain Belt beer from New Ulm MN and an order of fried dill pickles. The homemade batter is spiked with cayenne, cooled with the homemade ranch that comes with the pickles. They are the best we've had in a while. Chislic at Meridian Corner is made from either mutton or lamb, and one order is 3 skewers. Some places around SE SD make chislic from beef, but they keep it traditional the Meridian Corner!! For our first taste of chislic we ordered 6 skewers, 3 mutton and 3 lamb. Orders are a minimum of 3 and they take about 2 minutes to cook, so order them as you eat them so they stay hot! Skewers are served with garlic salt and saltine crackers, and fried onions are and optional and flavorful extra. The skewers arrive hot and delicious, ready for a sprinkling of garlic salt. We found the lamb to be very tender and mild, while the mutton was gamier and a little bit chewier. Both were delicious though, and we ordered 6 more of each for the table. I also ordered a Flesche Kuchel, which is essentially a German empanada. Ground beef and onion filling is sealed in a homemade dough before being deep-fried to hot and crispy perfection! One of these pies is $4, and is a side dish. There is a long list of other sides to go with your chislic, so be sure to look it over unless you want to go Full Carnivore (we don't judge). :) Staff are polite, professional, knowledgeable, and fun! Because we were all the way from Dallas, they took down their 1923 vintage sign and took out picture with it. We had a great meal and a great time eating chislic at Meridian Corner. Meridian Corner rules! I was on a road trip out west with some buddies. We were totally winging it. My brother looked up South Dakota cuisine and learned about something called Chislic. The first place we found was Meridian Corner... middle of nowhere, but totally worth the detour! Chislic rocks by the way. Definitely hit it with the seasoning they bring to the table. Friendly helpful staff who answered all our questions about all the food we'd never heard of like Tiger Meat (not actual tiger). If you like steak tartare, get the Tiger Meat too. read more

the service was terrible I haven't gotten my drink in the hour I've been here and it took over 40 mins just to get service. I ordered a side salad and my boyfriend got the tiger meat from here and neither of them have come yet after an hour and a half. When my boyfriend finally got his tiger meat before our drinks even came they forgot his crackers. We finally got another server who actually cared about me and my bf she got our drinks in less than 5 minutes of asking and she was much better than the one we had before food was great. read more

The food here is amazing! I love small businesses as i know they sometimes are the hidden gems and this restaurant did not let me down. I had a burger, jalapeño cheese curds and some of their fire buffalo wings. All three of these were cooked to perfection. The staff was very friendly, the cook came out to visit giving you a welcomed feeling. If it wasn't so far away this would be my every week go to! Very limited seating, and it's open seating so it's a wild guess when you will actually get served. The servers are very friendly but there is no system for who will take your order. Two of the waitresses both thought the other was going to handle our table so it was a mess. Multiple people who came in after us got served first and even one couple who arrived after us. sat down, ordered their food and received their food before we even ordered. There is a sign that warns you that they are not a fast food restaurant. They definitely could benefit from organizing their sitting/ordering process. The saving grace of the restaurant is the food is good, no frozen burgers and good steak and fries and even the salad is greens and not iceberg lettuce so that is definitely a plus. All in all if your willing to wait and tolerate the ordering process you will enjoy good food. Meridian Corner - we passed through the this place on our way to Sioux Falls, SD. If your in the mood for bar food this is the place to stop. It sits on the corner of 18 and 81 just south of Freeman, SD. We had to stop and have our favorite: Chislic and Tiger Meat. We also order sides of fries and tots. Overall, the food and service was good. We didn't try any burgers, so I cannot comment on them. The Tiger Meat and Chislic was very tasty. I also picked up a souvenir hat. read more

If I could I would give a 0. We had 5 adults and 2 kids in our group and called ahead for reservations. The night started out with our server forgetting part of our drink order which was no problem as only one person there old enough to serve alcohol on a Friday night. After an hour and a half our group finally go there cold food even though groups that came in an hour after us were getting served. My order was not brought out with the rest and when they came back to see how everything was tasting and I asked where my food was I was told that it would be out in two minutes.... 15 minutes later I was given burnt food..... the manager came out and offered us a $50 gift card and I asked that the bill be split in two for our group. The server returned with the gift card and only one bill for our entire group, which included drinks we never ordered but we were done and just wanted to leave.... in the parking lot our server ran us down for 25 cents we accidentally shorted on the bill.... I drove out to Freeman to pick up some tiger meat. I had never tried thiers before and had very high hopes. Those were completely dashed after smelling the meat. All I could smell was whorschire (sp?) sauce and I knew it wasn't going to be good. It was god awful! I wouldn't even feed it to my dog. This place has potential to be something great. The location and bar feel is choice. I love middle of nowhere finds with great menus. I tried the mountain oysters. They were bought frozen and were sliced thick. I was expecting homemade for this location. Tiger meat was bland. Service has been poor for the 12 times I have stopped in. Seems like its a family run business and nobody is happy about having to work. Super unfriendly staff. Maybe it's because I'm not a local. I always tip $1-2 per drink but not even that can make them pleasant to deal with. Probably never going back unless it's to use the dark unlit bathroom on my way through. read more

My favorite is the Nookala soup. The big Norwegian burger is also very good. We love to drive out here as a family and enjoy great food.
