I have visited this community on multiple occasions and have always been impressed with the happy,…read morefriendly and uplifting atmosphere. The staff is kind and courteous to visitors and you can tell they love their residents. And the food is wonderful.

I can unequivocally give Abbotswood @ Irving Park 5 out of 5 stars! From the time we entered the…read morebuilding, we knew we were someplace special. The entireties of the staff - from the sales, to skilled nursing, to the dining room servers were welcoming, obliging, and happy (which is not always the case in senior facilities!) The residents we encountered were equally cheerful! My father decided on that 1st visit that "this was the place for him", and fortunately there was an apartment that would be available to him in a week's time. Unfortunately, as is often the case with elderly parents, we experienced a medical "emergency" with my Dad several days before his scheduled move-in. The amazing team at Abbotswood moved mountains to get him in-house, and under their expert Living Well @ Home skilled nursing care...an answer to our prayer as we could not give him the care he needed. The team at Abbotswood is enthusiastic, respectful, responsive and incredibly professional! The grounds are beautiful! The interiors are updated and bright! The restaurants serve wonderful food, and are accommodating for each resident's particular needs! I doubt you will find anything in the Triad that is even close to the gem that Abbotswood is!

We often felt like it was "us" against them vs working together. We constantly had to ask for our mom to be bathed, have her teeth brushed and no one ever clipped her nails even after we asked. She was overdosed by their admission. Sheets would be soiled and piled in the shower. No sheets replaced on the bed and family not called so we could bring more sheets. If we hadn't gone by she wouldn't even have had a blanket to cover up with. Clothes often missing. Communication was always lacking between both family and from one shift to the next. No one could ever answer a question directly it was always blame shifting. Often under staffed.

The staff is caring and on the ball. The food is good ( our loved one likes it and I have eaten it several times- quite delicious). They have a wonderful activities department and an on staff pastor who is great. The place is clean and takes good care of our loved one. All department staff are accessible and helpful. We are so thankful for this good place. ( Someone mentioned getting locked in the bathroom - I checked and the bathroom door in our family member's room does not lock. Concerning items getting gone- this happens in all nursing homes. A lot of the time it's residents moving them or losing them or throwing them away because they have dementia. There are some cases of residents " moving " things. I'm sure there might be malicious cases where someone steals, but for us this has not happened. When small things get mixed up or lost, you just understand it's a big place that's very busy and sometimes things happen. We have not found it to be a problem. Most of the things in our loved one's room are just fine. Clothing/laundry mix ups sometimes occur- but it's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things. Just my opinion being around nursing home situations for years - believe me- the good far outweighs the bad!).

A couple of months have now passed since my 98 year old mother passed and I can write about the…read morelast year and days of her life without falling apart. I know I express the sentiments of my entire family when I say that if you are seeking care for your elderly parent ... consider this firm. My mom (Mim) lived alone and independently in the family home until just the last few months of her life. At 97 she "allowed" us to send in a caregiver in the early morning and the late afternoon. We met with several agencies in the area and she immediately chose Touched by Angels ... primarily because during the interview sessions with Pam Parrot, Mim was the person to whom Pam directed her conversations ... not me ... not my sister or brother. We were blessed in that Mim was still "sharp as a tack" so this made it possible ... but so often, family members and agencies will talk over the elderly and make decisions which they feel are best. This was not the case with Pam. The caregivers who were selected to work with Mim were handpicked by Pam who talked enough with Mim to know her interests and hobbies. They quickly became more than just helpers ... they became dear and trusted friends. On the day Mim took a big downturn and it was discovered that her doctor was out of the country, Pam was there helping me make that tough decision to transfer her to the hospital. Then on what was surely the hardest day of my life when the hospital transferred Mim to a nursing home, who showed up for moral support ... Pam Parrot. It's important to note that the weatherman was calling for extreme weather that morning (sleet, snow possible tornadoes). Each of Mim's caregivers visited her and called constantly to check on her well being. All went above and beyond what was written in their job descriptions. I will never forget this and I wholeheartedly offer my recommendation for this firm and the people who work there. They are the Angels when you need them!

The agency found a care giver right away and made the process very easy for me as the daughter. When a crisis arose and we needed more services Touched by Angels was there to help.
