As we've journeyed through my wife's Multiple Sclerosis, we have found ourselves at times feeling challenged by some of the limitations to her abilities. Advancements in technology and new medications have made life somewhat easier, yet it remains difficult to live as we once did. During our stay here in Blaine Minnesota, my wife experienced a progressive and debilitating flare up of her Multiple Sclerosis that required me to bring her to the Emergency Room at Mercy Hospital on Coon Rapids Boulevard. The reception we received in the emergency room was spectacular and so easily transitioning to get my wife seen. I must be honest, but not complaining, that the wait was somewhat long to get fully treated. Granted that it did become busy for the ER staff but what hospital doesn't have that issue. What completely caught us by surprise was that the doctors, nurses, and staff were always attentive to our needs as we waited along with other patients needing care. Once we were assigned a room, the care became even more personable, compassionate, and professional, helping my wife to feel as comfortable as she needed. The Doctors, Nurses, and Staff made us feel safe and secure that her care and diagnosis was their goal. Once my wife's admission to a room in 23 West, the care was even more wonderful as she was welcomed with open arms by the nurses, doctors and neurologists. As each day brought more diagnosis and testing, the medical staff reassured us that they were working to bring a resolution to my wife's MS condition. Not once did we ever feel that anyone was condescending in their attitude or care. Every medical person offered their best to make her feel encouraged and hopeful toward a full and well-informed recovery. Even as we spent the Thanksgiving holiday in the hospital, we didn't feel discouraged or disappointed because the staff made us feel like family. It wasn't long after the holiday that the doctors were able to send my wife home with the treatments needed and physical therapy she needed. It's been a slow recovery, but we were able to be home with our new grandson, daughter and son-in-law again. We can't express enough gratitude and thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids. We believe wholeheartedly that God sees to our needs through the service of others. Mercy Hospital truly lived up to its name as it provided mercy and compassion to my wife and me. We thank you with all the love and gratitude from our hearts. I am extremely concerned about my experience at Mercy Hospital. I have stage 4 metastatic breast cancer and am currently undergoing chemotherapy, along with severe chronic pain from multiple surgeries. I was at the hospital supporting a close friend during a relapse in their sobriety while already physically exhausted, dehydrated, and emotionally overwhelmed. Instead of compassion, I was met with disrespect. A nurse called me a "bad friend" because my friend had relapsed. I was also told I could not have a glass of water because "we aren't here for you," which felt cruel and dehumanizing. I was also deeply disturbed by the doctor who appeared visibly upset. He was argumentative, shaky, very red in the face and smelled strongly of cologne. He made me feel unsafe as a medically fragile person. Hospitals should provide compassion and dignity. That is not what I experienced. I left feeling humiliated and deeply upset. read more

Took absolutely forever took about 5 hours just to get ct scans and an ultrasound done.

I arrived by ambulance on Monday morning in early June after a nearby car accident. The staff immediately got me a wheelchair and wheeled me to the department I needed to be at for the next preliminary checks. It seemed like an eternity that I waited to be seen but in reality it was not. The staff were careful and asked a lot of questions as they moved me around as to figure out where pain was. I received good care and diagnosis. Thank you Mercy and staff. read more

Staffing of nursing assistants is laughable Pts do not get even partial bath and clean gown..or water to brush teeth unless family does it..Husband in five days..His IV was discintinued on day 3 yet pole and remaining solutions never removed.Laundry basket full so guess hus bed got cleaned ... IV access was removed and she held pressure with the alcohol swab! When dhe put dressing on of course blood soaked through. Medical staff satisfactory but basic cares suffer. read more

I would never go to this hospital ER . My mom fell and they had her sitting in the lobby for 8 hours and still not called back for care we walked out and went to Maple Grove hospital. Not to mention staff must be stressed and they showed it with the care they provided. They had a man that was dropped off by a nursing home and couldn't walk sitting there for 10 hours. He asked nurse that checks you in for someone to help him to rest room and she was so rude to him left him to urine on his self. No food or water for him either. I'm so disgusted with the care this hospital provided. I will never take my mom here again. read more

My father in law has cancer and a low immune system he was told to stay away from sick people. He had to go to mercy advised from his oncologist his hemoglobin was low. When they arrived they told the check in nurse he has cancer they actually made him sit in the lobby for7 hours with sick people this is not acceptable and very unprofessional they actually told them they could give him the hemoglobin in the lobby really do better mercy we I have this on record if he ends up sicker read more

Sent to ER by Urgent Care. After a short wait, my issues were attended to expeditiously and professionally. I was admitted for four days with a serious infection. The entire staff was terrific; ER, Radiology, Surgery, floor staff; doctors, nurses (especially Rhonda), aides, and housekeeping. read more

Honestly it has been such a terrible experience from all levels. The best way to sum it up, if you would like to die, come to this hospital. If you are looking for treatment or care, go anywhere else. I honestly trust a veterinarian more than the staff here. I have 0 education in medical, and they wanted to give a pill to lower the blood pressure when its already dangerously low. It was questioned why the pills were being given and they were like oh yeah, that doesn't make sense. Many of the staff could not tell me normal blood pressure or normal levels of hemoglobin. They had to go to google. Needed an emergency bathroom help, took over an hr to get a staff member to help disconnect all the chords. I am not exaggerating i timed it. They were going to discharge when vitals were not stable so questioned that and a nurse actually had common sense and said no way you can be discharged. I could go on but long story short, requested a transfer to get the heck out of there. I honestly don't get how this hospital is still standing and not drowning in lawsuits. UPDATED: Angie, if the doctors spent 7 years of schooling and are this bad and still maintain jobs here, I am terrified to even know what patient care liaisons is going to be like. By looking at the other reviews besides mine, looks like you have a major internal issue that have not been resolved in awhile which makes me think that calling this number is going to be an extreme waste of my time. Hotel toilet paper has better ratings than this hospital and honestly I hate hotel toliet paper. Angie, You know what im goint to do? I am going to go to another hotel and use that crap TP again. Do you know what im not going to do, come back to this hospital. I trust the TP more than this hospital. You guys need to figgure your .... out. I would advise going elsewhere for monthly or weekly shots. I have had 2 times in a row with a worker taking an additional half hour to just start my appointment. if you want to get a shot here I would not suggest having plans after because there can be hours of time wasted.. I asked for a reason and she said pharmacy got a new order. I asked if my appointment was the right time and both times there is lack of communication just plan on poor patient care. read more

I highly recommend Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids MN. The care I received during an overnight stay for a total knee replacement revision was excellent. From the moment I arrived, every single person involved in my procedure treated me with kindness and professionalism. l am a senior citizen and have been in few hospitals and this is one of the best. They need more ER doctors. What is the point of going to the ER when you sit for six hours?

Mercy recently updated the lighting during their remodel. I must say this is the absolute worst lighting I have even seen in my 69 years living in Minnesota. I can't imagine how the employees can stand it. I feel sorry for them. I didn't get to a hospital room, so I don't know if that lighting was impacted.What were they thinking? Unbelievable horrible care ! I was slammed down into a commode . Hit my elbow so hard that it was black and blue almost to my wrist . A security officer Jam me three times in my breastbone with his middle finger . I was over sedated with medications . I was uncontrollable with my swearing because I did not know what I was doing and I was in extreme pain . I did not understand why a male security officer had to stand and watch me go potty in a mold in the middle of a room . It was like Grand Central Station ! They refuse to give me my inhaler ! They took my phone away from me . When they clean me they went from the back to the front . I ended up with an infection . These people are horrible this place should be condemned ! Now I have my phone back and I can complain ! They refuse to let me videotape what they were doing to me ! read more

No one is ever enthused to visit a hospital, but i will say that it was easy to find, accessible and directly off of a main road. Parking was easy, I parked directly outside of the ER and Main Entrance. Service: Main desk was professional and nice. One of the nurses was slightly rude in my friends room, but the second nurse who came behind her was extremely pleasant; creating a balance for my experience. What I liked the most was all of the holiday window art from different departments within the hospital. Really nice touch. read more

My visit was was caused by DVT in my right shoulder which led to a blood clot. I'm grateful to still be alive but the amount of trauma this hospital has caused I will never let them "practice" on me ever again. *In the Icu, I got to meet everyone after the nurse pulled an IV out of my arm and shot blood everywhere * They never mentioned the compression sleeve until I wore one to the visit. * My surgeon knicked my artery during the procedure delaying the venogram. Insurance then denied the follow up venogram that was scheduled. * The venogram was to remove a clot they found in my arm (post catheter) and to balloon the vein. * Due to the delay, I was left with a chronic blood clot in my arm, scar tissue where the swelling was, and the lack of transparency going forward. * I was told I didn't have insurance shortly after I had check up days prior. read more

I was taken here by ambulance last week. I want to let everyone know that the ambulance personnel were fantastic and made the 30 minute ride painless. Once I arrived at the facility they took me right up. I was treated like a princess. I did not have a diagnosis and they dispatched an army of doctors to begin diagnostic testing and blood tests. For 9 days they worked tirelessly. I am blesses to have come here as the doctors and nurses are completely compassionate and caring. Please let them know that I will always be grateful. read more

I saw Dr. Linda Soucie give a patient who was in the hospital, a pill that made that patient go insane after about 20 minutes. This patient's eye's opened wide showing the entire whites of their eyes and they started acting violently, yelling and saying nonsensical things. Previously, this patient was lying quietly in the hospital bed. I was part of a small group that was visiting this patient, when Dr. Soucie walked into the room, gave the pill and then started talking to us. She was trying to convince us to put the patient down by signing DNR/Do Not Resuscitate and no more food or water etc. We didn't have the authority to do this. Dr. Souchie began smiling and chiding this patient, as this elderly person went completely nuts from being drugged. Dr. Soucie said to all of us 'See--they're crazy--see how crazy they're acting. You can't have them acting like this when they go home, can you. You don't want others to see them behaving this way. It's time to let them go. It's time to stop bringing them into the hospital. Sign these papers so we have paperwork on file here at the hospital. We need to put them out of their misery.' I was horrified by this incident. It's scorched into my memory. Dr. Souchie slipped this patient hallucinants for her own amusement. She then tried to convince others to authorize the patient's demise. Fortunately, this patients' family came and got them out of the hospital, away from Dr. Soucie. Unfortunately, this elderly person had to come back to Mercy hospital/Dr. Soucie, where I later heard they were further mistreated by Dr. Soucie. The family was helpless, where could they go for help if Dr. Soucie was always there at the hospital. Dr. Soucie remembered this person and targeted them for physical and psychological abuse. I will personally never go to Mercy hospital where Dr. Soucie works. Dr. Soucie's license should be taken away. She should be put in jail for elder abuse and the intentional drugging of elders with hallucinants, in an attempt to coerce family members to get rid of their elderly family members. read more

I took my mother in to the ER because her MRSA infection broke out again (fifth time since 2016). They confirmed it was MRSA, would not admit her for IV vancomycin like she requested knowing that's what it takes to kill it, and sent her home with prescription vibromycin. Less than a week later, we were back in the ER because her infection had worsened. ER doctor finally listened and admitted her for IV vancomycin but the floor doctor only gave her two doses 24 hours apart and they discharged her. She told them she needed at least 10 treatments over 5 days but they sent her home AND TOLD HER NO FURTHER MEDICATION WAS NECESSARY! Four days later she went in for a prescheduled appointment with her pcp. He looked at her infection and told her to get to an ER to be admitted; any hospital other than Allina Mercy. read more

my wife had a stroke, we have been in the er 9 hrs. the nurse comes in and says that she has to check on something and will be right back. 90 minutes later she appears and does the same thing. they cla that she has to stay overnight but they want to transfer her to a different hospital. don't bother to come to Mercy hospital, you won't find mercy here. you need to wait if you need emergency care. I recommend that you go anywhere other then here. read more

Terrible terrible hospital, beware if you send your elderly loved ones there. My father in law 92years old was discharged to a rehab facility 3 days after Being admitted with pneumonia without his family being notified. You go to visit and find out he's not there, no one knows where he is and because they didn't discharge him they are like " well it's not our problem." Well yes it is. Demanding answers both myself and husband are threatened with being escorted out the hospital by security if we don't stop being pushy. It took over an hour and the threat of police involvement before they finally decided to find where he was sent. if this isn't neglect and negligence I don't know what is. We are considering taking legal action. read more

A joke of a hospital. It takes forever to get in and when you do, you're treated like a bother. Almost always they just send you home diagnosed with a problem that isn't there or with no help. A second opinion is almost always needed. When my mother was here on life support, the nurses kept coming in asking if we were ready to pull her off of it. We were asked so many times as if our feelings didn't matter. We had told them that we were waiting for one more relative to arrive and they seemed to completely disregard that. Calling to talk to any supervisor or trying to appeal a medical record means being hung up on, ran around in circles or never truly getting what you needed. read more

My mom almost died if they didn't get her in. I kept crying and asking for them to please check her in and they did not. She could hardly breathe. They just sat there and looked at me while my mom was white and blue. Hours later we found out she had many many blood clots in her lungs and couldn't went to her heart. But the waiting time is awful. Just awful. People are sick and waiting but they can't be seen because the waiting is horrible. I will never come here again. Maple Grove hospital is the best so far. 14 Hours of Misery 8pm: I went in unable to walk and in severe pain (due to a herniated disc I would later learn though suspected.) I sat in the waiting room for 5 hours. When I was brought back to a room, the doctor was very dismissive and the nurses took 5 tries to get an IV. I had a 2 hour wait for an MRI...fine, it's a long process, I get that. They told me I couldnt eat or drink anything prior in case surgery was needed. 3am: When it was discovered I had a severe herniation, I was told I would be admitted. Hours went by as I lay in the ER. My parents and I kept asking when I would get a room while they just kept giving excuses (ie: they're busy, they're over capacity, they've closed all admittance) 7am: I haven't eaten in 12 hours. Finally an HR woman came in to explain I couldn't be admitted because my surgeon from my previous back surgery so I was being transferred to Abbott. It took a further 3 hours to make the transfer happen. 10am: I finally left Mercy hospital where I was ignored, lied to, and in severe pain all the while. read more

They have good nurses and bad nurses. There seems to be a improper management of the CNA's. They did not know how to use most of the equipment. Some of them also had bad manners and were quite aggressive with the patients. There were some great nurses though such as Kate, give her a raise. Thankfully the doctors there know what they are doing. read more

Went to ER as directed to by Triage ans I wasn't feeling well and low back was hurting and i havent urinated for 12 hrs. Labs were taken urine was collected and then waited 6hr which is a long time but I understand it's busy. I got back to a room nurse was great took blood pressure asked what was going on next doctor Mercer came in he asked what I came in for I told him and he had nothing to say other than how many times I was in there in 2024 and how many ct scans I had. And told me he didn't see that i needed surgery and nothing life threatening. Just so everyone knows I did virtual next morning I had a UTI my urine was off. I will never go there or anything again no reason to lecture me or get upset with me. I will not go back to any er I will have to be on my death bed. It's not fair I called triage next night and I was in severe pain she wanted me to go back in and I cried and said no please don't make me I will go to urgent care in morning. The hospital itself is updated. The nurses and doctors definitely don't get along listening to the nurses complain about the doctors outside of the room. Also talking about their social lives while room alerts are going off Laughing about patients in rooms down the hall. I couldn't believe the unprofessional talk! We're arent dead we can hear you! I was afraid to say anything because when they were in the room next to me; I overheard a my nurse Mike 60183- yell at a police officer working a guard duty. Asking just plain rude questions that are obviously relating to the inmate in restraints for Everyones Safety! The police officer was professional and advised that was a question for the bosses not for him. Rn Mike then yelled "well I guess I dont know my government then!" And the officer advised quite professionally "these questions are for someone higher than my rank, I do not make any decisions". The female nurse Norilyn 60187 was laughing and the officer asked "whats his deal I have no say in any of this" and Norilyn yelled back "I dont know maybe its because your a cop!" The officer sadly but professionally replied "Well I guess this is something we have to get used to"... Norilyn walked out of the room past mine "whatever!!!" Wow how disheartening and rude and these people are treating the sick! I read all the reviews on Mercy Hospital here in Coon Rapids and didnt want to believe how terrible people have been treated in the most delicate times of their lives- but its true the nurses are just plain mean! Why? Why isnt Mercy doing something? These nurses give the real heroes working with Corona patients a bad name. Isnt their a board of standards because in reading ALL of these complaints it is quite obvious something is wrong at Mercy Hospital Coon Rapids MN. And to pass judgement or press their opinions on others what kind of bedside manner is that? Surely Something can be done to clean up the attitudes tearing this hospital down. I asked my husband to take me out of here and bring me to North Memorial in Maple Grove. What a change of positive atmosphere! read more

The level of care in the ER and the medical unit is horrible. I cant even tell you how bad my mothers care was. Nursing, social work, every department was below minimal standards. the kicker, getting another bill six months after my mother passed. The rude business office person said, "we have a year to bill". On January 5th my son went into the emergency room by ambulance due to server pain. Paramedic's and my son (23 yrs old ) believed strongly it was his appendix. Paramedics where told to take my son straight to triage. Needless to say my son sat in the emergency room from 3pm to 8pm before he got a bed and seen. he was given an IV meds and a CT scan which found IT WAS HIS APPENDIX. they moved THAN quickly to find a hospital with a surgent to do surgery. Surgery went well yet we got the upsetting news that his appendix was just about to rupture ..... point being if the emergency room would of done their job right my son wouldn't of sat 7 hours with an appendix that was vastly reaching rupture and would have had the surgery sooner than later. Thank God it didn't rupture and he is fine yet the carelessness of the emergency room had my son's life at high risk for 7 unnecessary hour's. Yes after getting a room in the back staff was great and moved fast yet everyone before hand an dissections made need review with trainning. read more

All I can say is WOW! What a great place! What outstanding staff! I went in on Friday night 11/13/20, at the height of COVID, with a sore leg that I thought could be a blood clot. Being 75 yo I thought I should get it looked at. I was quickly and correctly triaged by the ER staff and even with a full waiting room properly diagnosed and sent for CT scan and sonogram. Everyone and I repeat everyone was competent, cordial and very pleasant to be with. I was diagnosed with a blood clot in my leg and pulmonary edema, treated with blood thinners and magnificent tender loving care. I was able to leave late the next day feeling considerably better than I did when entering. The highlight of the night, besides having life saving care, was having ice cream and gram crackers delivered to my room at 2:30 In the morning. I feel privileged to have been treated by the Mercy Hospital staff! read more

Went here for lower back pain in the ER where i could barley walk. Tweaked my back really bad. Waited for hours and final got seen by a doctor for literally 2 min and walked out with a pain prescription for 3 days. Received the bill and was charged 1,000.00 with insurance. What a joke seriously what a f-ing joke! get charged that much to get my blood pressure and temp taken to then sit in a room only to be talked to for 2 min and sent on my way. Doctors don't give a rip just on to the next person they can charge hundreds of dollars for. Shame on the health care we have here in MN! read more

I went in to the ER yesterday for severe pain and was admitted very quickly. Everyone from the nurses to the support staff and the doctors were professional and compassionate. I was very happy with services they provided and would recommend them for your medical needs. read more
