Maybe it is because I am brand new and still in the honeymoon phase, but I absolutely love the Mercy HealthPlex in Anderson. What a fantastic community center/health club/gym this has turned out to be for me and my SO. I love that it has a large in-door area, featuring a track, pickleball, basketball, racketball, and of course, all the usual work out equipment/machines. The pool area also is a huge feature for me because it has a lap pool and a heated therapy pool. Not to mention the jacuzzi/hot tub, sauna, and steam room in the adjacent locker room. read more

The best part of this place is the childcare but unfortunately they are constantly understaffed. Before Covid you didn't have to do reservations for older kids and now it's required for all ages. FABULOUS facility! I am visiting from San Diego and I went here about 6 years ago when I previously visited to take a Body Pump class and I was super impressed with the facility and how friendly and amazing the staff here are. Fast forward today and I've gone here twice now this week, and the facility, staff, cleanliness and amenities are second to none! They are still doing an amazing job maintaining the facilities. I took a spin classes today and Lorry was just AMAZING! Her music was very motivational and she was on the beat and a very challenging class, I burned 700 calories! The locker rooms, showers and saunas are very clean and well maintained. This is not a super hip and modern facility by any means, but they make up for it in quality and in friendly customer service. read more

Seriously someone from the Healthplex just commented on my review 4 years later to say they open at 8AM on Sunday....LOL. They also open at 5AM now during the week Let me update my review. A family membership now is almost $200 with tax. The fitness and nautilus machines on the main floor are regularly breaking down. Few if any machines have been updated/replaced in years. The headphone jacks on machines are not getting fixed. I gave up requesting repairs. Members are flocking in droves to the new Crunch Fitness which is only $10 per month per member. If you want babysitting, basketball, tennis, swimming, racquetball, sauna, whirlpool, a wide variety of classes stay at the Healthplex. If you just want the basics there are many cheaper options now. Crunch fitness has added spinning for $15 month. They have many other classes. My health insurance company is providing me a free membership. The Anderson one is owned by the same people who own the Mason Crunch Fitness. I just joined them. Their membership cost includes suntanning, aqua-massage (that was cool) and a free personal trainer. They have the same machines and more as the Healthplex. Their machines are new and very clean! The healthplex is charging $65 hour now for a trainer without regard for level. In the past you paid based on experience. The massages are overpriced! Again too many places offering similar services for much less. Groupons galore! read more

Decent facilities but shocked they won't offer any fee reduction for caregivers for special needs folks, only if caregiver doesn't participate in any way. Special needs folks often need someone in the pool with them for help and support. This from a health club operated by a health care organization! So much for community engagement. read more

The woman at the front desk is awful and made me feel like I was putting her out from the second I walked in. She made me anxious and shouldn't be customer facing. After paying, I had an issue which required assistance from the front counter to solve and I debated on leaving just so I wouldn't have to approach her again. I won't be back, even my young son commented on how rude she was, which says a lot. Unfortunately it seems like a nice facility, but the customer service earned it 1 star. read more

I have been a member of Mercy HealthPlex in Anderson for a long period of time. I thought it was time to write a review about the facility. When you first walk in you have a group of wonderful staff working behind the counter. They are so friendly and I enjoy my short conversation with each of the workers. The sales associates with membership service is a great group of workers dedicated to their job. They truly work hard to attract new members. As far as the overall appearance, it is kept clean for the most part. A lot of dedicated workers in the locker rooms providing quality services to its members. For all the programs, I am only familiar with tennis and pickle ball. Therefore, I will focus on these two programs. The racquet ball courts should be turned into pickle ball courts. Hardly anyone is playing racquet ball anymore. The growth is in pickle ball. As a pickle ball player I would love to walk on a pickle ball court rather than playing on the tennis court. I do enjoy playing recreational tennis at the facility and I learned the following: First, when talking about tennis to the manager of the facility, it was brought out in conversation they had no knowledge of tennis. Why would Power Wellness bring in a person to manage a facility if they had no knowledge of tennis and probably pickle ball for that matter. Second, a few members asked the manager of the facility after Covid to return the ball cart for members use and the reply in October of 2020, "I am working on it." To date no tennis ball cart for members. Third, from what I heard (hearsay), a member asked a qualified Power Wellness staff member to tighten the nets on the courts. Due to the lack of interest by Power Wellness to full-fill this simple request, a non- staff member had to tighten the nets on all the courts. One of my tennis friends witnessed this but I was not present. At least with the previous management company they listened and acted on members concerns. Power Wellness just ignores the simple request by members. Fourth, my advice especially for junior players that play in USTA or UTR events look elsewhere for tennis. We used to have two levels of tennis for junior players and now Power Wellness grouped all the high school kids into one program. To tell you how bad the junior tennis clinics are I learned Power Wellness own staff sends their children to other tennis facilities for tennis clinics. Power Wellness is not able to provide a junior clinic for developing tennis players for college. All the junior tennis clinics Power Wellness are offering is for recreational purposes only. Fifth, which is really a big fiasco from what I learned -- there is only one person who has the authority to open up tennis courts when certain events doesn't occur. For example, if a court is booked for an event and the participants don't show up the court sits empty. Myself and other members have complained to the manager of the facility that if the tennis court are not in use for an event then the front desk should be allowed to open the courts up and allow members to book the court. The manager of the facility knows this problem is ongoing and has taken no action to resolve this problem. The problem with Power Wellness which they don't understand or realize is the way in which they treated their past Tennis Pro's in the facility. Power Wellness now has such a bad reputation in the tennis community that no local Tennis Pro's would even consider working for them until significant changes are made in personnel. When your competition is hiring full-time what makes Power Wellness believe they can attract quality tennis instructors part-time and run successful tennis programs other then happy hours. To put this tennis into perspective how bad it really is, I heard (hearsay) that a group of men played in the local league in 2021 and was placed in a division higher than their capabilities. Needless to say these male players didn't do so well and it was a big oversight I guess by Power Wellness. Now I heard (hearsay) in the winter of 2022, this same group of men don't play in the league anymore. So my advice to any new members is that if you are thinking of joining Mercy Healthplex in Anderson for tennis, go elsewhere. If you are looking for a clean gym for working out and taking other programs then please consider this facility. read more

LOVE this place! Their trainers are incredible! Clean and organized! The trainers personalize your workout to your needs/restrictions. They are incredibly passionate about what they do and will motivate you. I would highly recommend signing up and making them your home gym. Also, their spa services are incredible. Across the street from the Mercy Hospital in Anderson this state of the art gym is the place to go for suburbanites in Anderson. I had a friend growing up who had a pass here and he also had some guest passes so I was able to come along for free several times. They offer the general things you can find in a gym plus some neat extras. When you get past the front desk with membership or pass, the cardio machines and weight machine area is to your right. They have a decent amount of all the usual equipment and a large area for lifting weights. Next to that are rooms where classes are held. Downstairs are the locker rooms which are really nice. They have hairdryers there for you! Next to the locker rooms are many racquetball courts. The pool entrance is through the locker rooms. They have two pools, a warm and a cool for lap swimming and rehabilitation. Then back upstairs if you walk towards the rear of the building is the place that I think is really neat. They have an indoor track that surrounds a bunch of tennis courts. So look out for runners when you're crossing to play tennis! Overall it's a really nice facility, but be prepared to pay for your membership, it's no YMCA. read more

I have been a member of the Anderson Healthplex for many years. If you are looking for a place that has a pool... good place to belong...indoor tennis. If you are looking for training/exercise, go some where else. If you need childcare, or other misc. services, it might be worth a go . But understand your training is 2X-3X what it is some where else. They are very expensive...the excuse is they provide extra value. Bull. The staff they keep in training is one struggle away from working some place else. There compensation plans could not make a living for a trainer. You constantly run into here this week and gone next week. If you want some one dedicated to your training go some where else The equipment is normally "at best". They are currently changing management and the outlook is not any better, Better to spend your money some where else. The employees don't work for Mercy(duh Mercy Healthplex?), but for some outside management company who keeps cost down. There's a reason they call this a "healthplex" and not just a "gym." Conveniently located just a mile or two off of the Five Mile exit off of 275, this healthplex is absolutely beautiful. More than that, it's a place where real people can go to be around other real people, as they try to improve their health and quality of life. It is comfortable and health focused, and the energy there is one of support and encouragement. I personally love the spa services! Their massage therapy program is excellent and reasonably priced. If you want to lose weight, but don't want to be judged while doing it, the plex is a great way to go! :-) read more

We received another increase letter for 2017 - 5%. Sooo...did some calculating. In 2008 dues were $39.67. They jumped 27% in 2011 and 9-10% each year after that for a final of $79.18 in 2016. Yoga is extra and more classes are being charged for. The equipment is rarely updated and broken frequently. Wish their trainers would move to Crunch. Crunch opened on the same block- they will probably get my attention now. It is just the point that they don't care about their members at the Plex. read more

I've been a member for 3+ years and love this place! Some competing gyms have trainers that attend a one-day class, take a test, and become a 'personal trainer'. . Good Luck Using Either Pool, and front desk person rude. Their schedules of pool use are almost never accurate. Several times I have checked the lap pool when supposedly ALL LANES were to be used by the swim team, and none were used - no one was even in the lap pool. And the so-called "Warm Water Therapy Pool" is used for swim lessons and open swim for kids. How is an adult supposed to use the "therapy pool" when there are always a bunch of kids in there splashing around? The front desk - All I did was ask about using the elevator and I received a bad attitude and was treated like I was stupid for asking. In addition, too many parking spaces are reserved for cardiac rehab, doctors-only and other reasons, and you have to park far away, all the while I've never seen more than half of those spaces in use at any given time. It's not clean. I've never witnessed a person wiping down a machine after use and I have found candy wrappers in the treadmills that stayed there for weeks. Trash on the floor in the women's locker room. Half of the keypads for the lockers don't work. I moved and gave them a notice and paperwork for my change of address. I was charged for three more months and when my membership was finally cancelled. I was told it was a "goodwill gesture." read more

This is one disgusting gym. The pools are especially dirty, and my kids swear they have seen some older women use the warm water pool as a bathroom - and not just for number 1, if you know what I mean. The staff is unresponsive and couldn't care less if you let them know of a problem. There are some classes that sound interesting, but most of them are in the middle of the day, so not for working people. The weekend selection is boring. I play tennis and thought this was my solution to the winter months (they have indoor courts). I was sadly mistaken for two reasons 1. Customer service: I was harassed and followed around the building by a woman who kept telling me I didn't schedule a court to play tennis. All the courts were open but I was eventually approached by a large man and ordered to leave the tennis courts. 2. The entire reason I signed a contract was for Winter Tennis, but literally every single night from 5 till they close is booked with tennis lessons and stroke clinics for old people that have no business picking up a racket. I have been a member for seven months now and love it. The staff is very helpful and friendly, most know and call me by name. They all seem happy and helpful. Jo at he front desk seems is always ready to help schedule tennis or any class you need. She is also good at pointing out different members that might be interested in the same activities. One of the men's looker room attentens is Steve. He always greets you by name and with a warm smile or hand shake. He is constantly cleaning the sinks and showers. And Sara who runs the pool is simply the best. This summer my ten year old daughter attended tennis camp each afternoon. Lead by Jessica she really learned and saw huge improvement in her game. Jessica and Troy seemed to really care about the kids and did many extras to make it enjoyable. Bottome line, there is always fresh coffee, very clean and have a great facility. When I'm there I feel welcome and wanted. I've meet many people I now call friends. read more

Too expensive (Family membership is approx $200 per month) for OK equipment and facilities but very poor management. Except for some classes, almost everything is extra and ridiculously expensive too. Steam room is constantly broken. If weight room equipment breaks down, it takes 4-6 weeks to fix something as simple as a belt. Men's room had a strong odor several days recently. Due to team practice sessions, it is almost impossible to find a swim lane in the lap pool for those of us with a job during normal workout hours before or after work. This place works for seniors and others with subsidized membership (e.g. employees). Several members have quit recently and my family is looking for alternatives (e.g. Beechmont Racquet Club) as well. read more

No complaints other than the cost. It's clean and the staff is friendly and makes you feel like you are part of a club rather than just a gym. HOWEVER, the cost is getting out of range. It's gone up every year and now it's $135 a month for me and my wife. Hard to justify when she only uses it once a week. Unless you use all of the facility it's just not worth it. Brand new Crunch fitness just opened up for $10 a month. Health Plex is nice but it's not $100 a month nicer. read more

We have been members for 3+ years and are quitting to switch to a better gym in the area. The management is hostile to member suggestions and the only thing they care about is profit. With the holiday crowd they have not been able to accommodate the needs for all the members' work out and would not add new staffing so members can get into class. I went to Mercy Healthplex a few weeks ago for a massage with a friend who was a member. When I called to schedule to appointment, the lady at the front desk was very rude, especially when I said I wasn't a member. Since I wasn't a member, I guess I recieved the WORST massage therapist they had! I took note of her name to avoid her in the future, Rachel Miller. She had the worst attitude, worst bedside manner and then to top it off, she wasn't receptive when I told her that something she was doing was hurting! I'm willing to pay a higher price with the expectation that facilities will be quieter, cleaner, etc. However, just as with lower caliber gyms, shower drains are filled with hairballs and the pool is surrounded by used band-aids. I am an avid swimmer. Mercy does not cater to swimmers. The primary function of their pools appears to be fitness classes, therapy, and child playtime. Free swims are limited. Additionally, high use by non-swimmers for therapy/non-swimming activities results in a surplus of used band-aids, mucus and hair floating around in the pool. Steam room smells like mold and/or cleaner. Either way, can't be good to inhale. I'm new to the area but I paid $20 less per month for Five Seasons in the past. Five Seasons felt calmer and cleaner, more like a country club or spa, yet with good equipment, classes and amenities. Children were also not the primary focus of Five Seasons. They were there, for tennis lessons or swim practice, but they did not interfere with adult workouts. In summary, I'm not sure what justifies the high membership fees of the Healthplex. read more

I was very disappointed with my interactions with Mercy HealthPlex. I received an email from them offering a pricing promotion for the new year and I replied that I was very interested and would like to understand their monthly pricing. They responded that it was impossible for them me the monthly fees and they would only disclose price on-site. I have already been to the club for a week trial and understand the perks and just wanted a price. They still would not give it to me and then the consultant basically said, "If you are making your decision based on price alone, we are likely not a fit." No, I was not making my decision based on pricing alone- I was simply trying to gather information on various clubs in the area and make a decision. The manager's condescending attitude and Scientology-like joining policy scared me away. When a place won't tell you the price upfront, their product is likely sub-par for the price and they want to bring you in to the gym and then pressure you into becoming a member.. read more
