They only have 2 rowing machines and they recently implemented a policy where both are reserved for the personal trainer and her class in the mornings before work. I shouldn't have to sign up for a class to use a basic piece of cardio equipment. read more

Reviewing the tour process with intentions to update when/if we become members. We called about 30mins before to confirm if we needed and appointment or not for a tour. If you come in before 8pm, you do not need an appointment. When we arrived, they took down some basic info and we began our tour. I believe the lady who toured us was the director because she knew every member by name, had a ton of knowledge on the YMCA non-profit aspect and eloquently shared every bit and piece of the facility with us. At first glance, it's an older YMCA but still clean and spacious. The cardio area is huge. The free weight area was once racquetball courts that weren't being used so they transformed it with a good deal of free weights and TRX. The downfall is it's tucked away in the way back of the building, away from the other cardio/weight room. The indoor pool is open year round where the little kid classes are held. There's always atleast a couple lanes for open swim as well. Outdoor is a bigger pool, open Memorial Day-Labor Day. During the winter, a dome is put on for the Barracuda swim team to practice. Off to the side is a baby pool that only goes up to 1.5 feet deep. Every one is swim tested, including littles. If they can't swim, they get a red bracelet and a life jacket to go into the big pool with an adult. The Kids area has various hours with a 2 hour max per kid per day. It is included in your membership and seems to be secure. Kiddos are checked in with a sticker and all of the parent/kid info is in the computer. Only the adult dropping off the child can pick up the child. All of this plus a few classes and only a 10 day cancellation policy equals a win for anyone, especially families. With a referral rate, a family of 2 adults and kids is $77/month. Without the referral it's $90. The $50 initiation fee is given back in credits to certain classes. We enjoyed our tour and will most likely be in to buy a family membership. Did I mention there's a sauna/steam room? Drop off the kiddos in Kids club and head to the sauna for a quick toxin release or splash around in the pool with the whole family! read more

The YMCA of my youth was probably built about the same time as this one and the only other "Y" I know is downtown Cincinnati. This one is my favorite because of the people. In the nursery, those ladies were very good to my kids. I see one lady in Kroger's who still asks me about them! In the women's locker room, the cleaning staff is so happy to visit and talk with you. The cycling instructors are amazing.....All of them! At the front desk, they have Michael. Enough said. If the workout commercials are right, no judgement has been this place's catch phrase since the 80's. You don't have to wear anything cute but if it helps you get there - JUST DO IT! read more

For as popular as this location is, I'm surprised no one has reviewed this Y. It's not the newest or most up-to-date facility, but that doesn't seem to take away from people using it. I stopped in on Labor Day to try a Zumba class figuring there would be a small group but the gym was filled with ladies! On other days, I tried a couple other group fitness classes and enjoyed all of them including the other people in the class. If socializing isn't your thing, you probably wouldn't enjoy these classes or this facility. Everyone seems to know everyone and if they don't know you, they talk to you anyway, it really has a neighborly feel to it. I was fortunate my first day to meet a very kind instructor who marked up my paper calendar with the classes she knew members liked so I felt like I had the inside track. Then, while waiting for a class I asked some others what they liked about the Y and got a variety of answers from the classes, hours, variety and family-friendly. The thing I noticed most is that if you are looking for a fitness option but are intimidated by the gym scene, you need not worry here. People are here to workout, socialize with friends, but not be seen which I know some people find as a turn off at gyms. I want to like this place but the person on the receptionist always ruin it for me. When I first enroll my kid for swimming she didn't even bother to explain anything she just made me choose what class then collect the money. The second time i need help she was receptionist again I ask her if there is swimming class available for next month she said yes and I told her would I be able to see the schedule since I want to my son to continue doing the swimming lesson she told me schedule is not yet to find out from another parent that schedule is already posted online and she already ask them and they gave to her. So I am not sure if she is lazy, she don't care, or just hated me!!! Aside from her everything is great love the swimming instructor and the facility! It's really bad that only one person can ruined everything!!! read more

This facility has so many issues and I have yet to see a competent person in the front managing anything. I am never greeted when I come in or leave and when I went up front to tell someone about a broken treadmill, they told me to tell someone else (they actually mentioned someone's first name as though I knew them personally). Lazy. Most of the equipment doesn't work and is dated. They need to switch the cardio room and free weight room. The weight room is crammed up with dated equipment and in a hard to reach spot. The older members never wipe it off when they're finished so keep that in mind before you use anything. The ventilation is poor back there too and I know that's how I got bronchitis. I could go on and on but it comes down to experience and this place doesn't do it for me. Especially for $50 / month for an individual. The Central Parkway facility is my go-to place and I only go to ME on weekends out of convenience otherwise I'd go to Crunch. You're going to be frustrated with this place if you're 20-40 and looking for a simple yet effective gym. It's geared to young families and older folks. read more

It is a OK gym. They have decent equipment and the facility is clean. Most people I see there are more interested in personal fitness and you wont find the muscle heads that you find in other places. Hot sauna and steam room are cool Tennis court definitely need some maintenance read more

I love M.E Lyons YMCA. I've gone to most of their classes and I've enjoyed all of them. My favorite class is cardio kickboxing. The instructor's name is Natalie and she works really hard to make the class personal training for everyone. I've also tried the step and dance fitness class. I recommend both to anyone looking for a fun way to exercise. read more
