I usually prefer going to an osteopath when I have back problems as I find the process more gentle,…read morebut when my regular osteo moved out of town I discovered Dawn Blaser. Dawn is American, great fun, and a damn good chiropractor. I don't go to her very often, but when things get really bad she can usually have me straightened out in under 15 minutes and often in just one session. She doesn't mess about - a quick appraisal of your range of mobility, then it's onto the table for some serious crunching. Almost before you're even aware of what's going on, you suddenly find that you can move much better and things don't seem to hurt as much as when you came in. "It's just simple bio-mechanics," she says. She is fast, efficient, and very effective. Sadly not terribly cheap, but she is very, very good at what she does and is well worth the expense. I know she treats a lot of professional dancers and I hear nothing but praise from them about her, so that's as good an endorsement as you're likely to find.
I am not a big fan of chiropractic, and so this is reflected in my review. I had a sequence of…read moretreatments here, and was never satisfied that it was doing any good. I was never sure whether the system was based on anything other than faith. That said, Glasgow Chiropractic are very willing to offer support and help, and do free tasters and group lessons on how to manage the back. Personally, I got more out of massage and regular exercise, but one of the guys I saw (who sadly left) almost inspired me to a great degree of confidence. Sadly, it seems very much to depend on who you get, as the actual theory is not necessarily coherent.
Holy back crack Batman, this place is my dream come true!…read more I've been going for adjustments since I was a kid and have really seen the benefits throughout my life. I've been seriously slacking (aka, haven't gone for an adjustment since probably the late 90's) and I was really starting to feel the effect due to various things going on in my life. Being a pseudo-runner (and part time exercise buff-HA!), I somehow managed to pinch my sciatic nerve on my left hand side. Understanding that it stems from the lower back, I was feeling all sorts of annoying dull pain in two certain places on my leg and of course on the left side of my back. I've been to my GP and orthopedics to try and figure out ways to ease this pain, but left feeling unsatisfied with printed out pamphlets on ways to stretch it out. After doing a bit more research, I noticed that a sure fire way to improve my life would be to get back in to going to the Chiropractor and after two adjustments thus far I am already feeling a world of difference. In other words, no pain whatsoever!!! Buchanan Wellness is housed in the same office as Devonshire Dental, and I was in Devonshire Dental and decided to ask the receptionist for Buchanan Wellness about services offered. She was able to get me a consultation that same week and I was introduced to Dr. Jasmine as well. What a lovely doctor! Jasmine comes from a long line of Chiropractors (her entire family are Chiropractors) and she has loads of experience and knowledge, you can't help but feel comfortable and welcomed. She's calm and understanding and she listens to your needs and works with you to figure out a solution. She is great with educating her clients and gives you a little booklet to take home circling the areas of the spin that need attention and what organs the nerves attach effect. It makes so much sense!! For all you students out there, she offers a student discount and various payment options should you need multiple sessions for whatever ails you. Dr. Jasmine also offers massage therapy, and wellness workshops weekly for anyone who has questions about the benefits the chiropractor. I've been super busy with end of term papers and exam prep, so I've had to reschedule my appointment and already I'm missing my adjustments. I'm not feeling bad, but know how beneficial they are and very much appreciate that they help me feel like I'm on top of the world! I am a huge fan and highly recommend that you check out Buchanan Wellness. You'll be so glad you did!

If you find yourself with need of an Osteopath I would have no hesitation in recommending Daniel…read more From start to finish the process is easy, honest and open and he will strive to help you feel better but will not make any promises that he can't keep. You can book in online via his easy booking tool. He offers free initial consultations where he will chat through options and give you an honest appraisal as to whether he thinks he can help you or not. Appointments are 30 mins but if he has no appointment after you he regularly works on to try and help you more and there is no extra charge. He creates a relaxed atmosphere where you can chat about just about any topic under the sun whilst he does the essential work that needs done to help you. If you are used to a really formal setting you may be taken by surprise, but for me the chilled atmosphere is a huge plus. His aim is to get rid of you (feeling better of course). Not a good business plan, but great for patients as you know he ain't just in it to keep you coming back for ever and ever like you hear from some other practitioners who always want to have you booked in again. Daniel Gerber..... osteopath, healing genius and all round good guy. If your in pain just now, you should give him a try.

No one came close until I walked into Daniel Gerber's treatment room. He knew exactly where the problem was almost without input from me and after only two sessions my pain began to disappear and my posture straightened noticeably. After a short period of regular appointments I moved onto maintenance sessions as and when I feel the need- sometimes several months apart. Back pain is a horrible experience - it makes you irritable and miserable, easily distracted and generally less able to cope with the day to day. Not any more! This man has changed my life!
I am not a great fan of osteopaths, mainly because I am not entirely sure how they expect their…read moresystem to work. The last time I had a bad neck, I started off by trying the osteopath, who assured me that he could help: certainly, his words and massage did help me. However, the recovery wasn't quick enough, so I went to a physio. The physio said I had to choose: osteopath (at a fair price per session) or physiotherapy on the NHS. I went for the cheap and, as it turned out, effective, option. However, I had had some signs of improvement in my fortnight at this osteopath, and do believe that his work did some good. It was not madly expensive, compared to other treatments (chiropractic, I am looking at you), and there was a sense of genuine attention, not just bilking the sucker from his cash. If you understand and believe in the process, this is a nice and professional clinic.

One of these said people, has got to be my gran; although she is a big fan of almost any time of alternative medicine, remedy or - well, hell anything. And I reckon this is what it can, in some cases, primarily come down to. If you believe and have faith in alternative medicine and remedies, then they will tend to do the job. All this mind over matter stuff should not be taken too lightly. Therefore, this place is a great option for osteopathic needs, as it's: 1) Clean, tidy and comfortable. 2) Has a good range of opening hours. 3) Is well staffed. 4) The staff are pleasant, personable and extremely knowledgeable. 5) Their prices are pretty reasonable as far as these things go. Though, if you are convinced these treatments will not work then, best not to waste your money proving yourself correct.

I choose 3 stars because I was slightly bewildered by my painful encounter with the chiropractor…read morehere, I am really not sure how I was suppose to feel after this treatment? The doctor had recommended I go to a chiropractor because I was suffering back pain in the lower region of my back, so I booked an appointment. They asked me a few things then had a look at my back, I was poked and prodded in the back until they had decided that they had sufficiently fixed what they could. It did make a difference though to how often my back was getting sore, as it was mostly running that was when it got sore. They gave me a few exercises to do to strengthen up the muscles in those areas, which I still do from time to time. I found that the benefit from the treatment did not last but this was at no fault of the Back Place as I did not return for treatment, when I was suppose to. It is a little pricey all in all but if it fixes an aching back that might get worse than it must be worthy it.
Despite being a fan of oriental health care, I find the Chinese Medicine Centre a little too…read moreserious. The outside boasts that it can cure most problems- at least, most of the problems I either have or worry about- and the professionalism of the staff makes this a real different experience from my usual massage at a beauty centre session. The truth is, I don't really understand how it works, and I am slightly suspicious because of that. I am also very bad at keeping up regimes, as they suggest, and only made a single visit. I would say that the attention given to me was positive and they are obviously competent, but this is only really a good resource for people who are already au fait with the various Chinese systems and have confidence in them.

As I was visiting my family for the weekend I thought it was pretty unlikely that Max would be able to take me on a Sunday and, even if he could, would be able to fit me in at such short notice. The massage itself was very thorough- about an hour long - and I immediately felt relief. A chill out, relaxing bath and a night's sleep later and I feel like a new woman! It was certainly worth every penny (£30 as at Nov 2013) and I'll be back next month so Max can sort out my stressed neck! Max the magician!

To compliment a rigorous training program, it's important for self-care. While I have my favourite massage therapists in the city, it was important to receive comprehensive treatment from Abigail Johnston Sports Therapy. Since I have been working closely with Abi the past 2 months, she understands the strain and stress my body has been under. By seeking sports therapy, it helps decompress and relieve tension in muscles, and assists in the recovery process. Following a week of kettlebells, personal training, and a 3-hour session on bar bell and kettlebell technique, my body was in desperate need of R&R. I booked in an hour for sports massage with Abi and she worked her magic over my wrecked body, while focusing on the areas with the most tension. This was no fluffy spa massage with hardly any pressure; Abi gets in there to relieve the tension... in my shoulders, back, quads. It's murder at the time, but once it's over you feel like a brand new person with a spring in your step. After the session, she shared some observations and tips that I could do to prevent future injury. In addition to massage therapy, Abi offers injury assessment and rehabilitation. As I continue training with Abi, there is no question I will seek her expertise in recovery and book in for massage as often as I can!

For me anyway, but then I've never been a bird person. I reckon the darkened windows are there not to create an atmosphere of mystery, rather some privacy for their customers. Inside, it's extremely comfy and friendly, if a little dogeared round the edges. Unfortunately, I can't comment on anything else apart from the above as only popped in to pick up some leaflets for the mother. The problem was not exactly clear although it was related to 'the change of life' and giving up the ciggies the cold turkey way. She did go a few times and seemed fairly pleased about the treatments, staff and their prices. However, it soon fell by the way side and the ciggies are back. So, I suppose it's worth a go if you are into this sort of thing - but don't expect miracle cures.

Over a month ago, Abi opened up her boutique studio near Strathbungo and Queens Park and I have been a fan ever since. Compared to impersonal big box gyms, Barbreck is intimate and unintimidating, while offering you the ability to challenge yourself. Kettlebells? Athletic strength and conditioning (Olympic lifting)? Bootcamp? Boxing? Metafit? Pick your poison, and step up to the challenge. Classes are small, and guaranteed individual attention; something that is lacking when you sign up for a class where they squeeze in 30 students! It's a challenging environment, but also friendly and encouraging. In addition to classes, I work with Abi during personal training sessions where she creates workouts geared towards my goals. Though I think I made the mistake of telling her I wanted to strengthen my core for yoga inversions and arm balances, and I'm now in a world of pain. To compliment the fitness side, Abi also offers sports and massage therapy which is housed next to the studio. I asked about some small stars on my arms that are quite light due to a previous attempt to have them removed so I asked him about those as well. Apparently, the laser her uses doesn't remove blue at all, which is why he wouldn't take me as a client either.
