Both doctors are great. I tend to see Dr Templeton more often and she is super thorough! Janice, the practice nurse is also terrific. If you live in the area, this is the practice for you. I cannot recommend highly enough. If I had to have a gripe, it's the parking in the area, but that is not the fault of the practice.

I did a quick search on the net and wrote down a few addresses, and then headed off to do a bit of a reccy. The first few surgeries on my list looked so awful that I didn't even go in. I was starting to wonder whether they had ANY nice looking surgeries in my area when I finally came across one that looked just about alright. I went in to find a very crowded small room, and dubiously asked the receptionist whether I could register with them. Unfortunately, she told me that they weren't registering patients at the moment - and pointed me in the direction of Abingdon Medical Practice on Stewartville Street. When I reached Stewartville Street, I swear a breathed a massive sigh of relief. Not only was it very clean and pleasant looking, when I got in it was bright airy and nearly empty. Registering was really quick and easy. It's easy to get an appointment, once you get there you don't usually have to wait for too long, and they have a large selection of magazines in the waiting room. The receptionists are also really nice, not like the grumpy ones you normally find in health practices. Basically, just about everything you could ask for from a doctors surgery.

So, signing up at a new GP for me was shaping up to be a bit of an ordeal but it really wasn't. The sign up was painless, the reception was so easy to deal with and friendly too. The following day I got a doctor appointment, even met the nurse who was very warm and friendly, made me feel right at home. So far, great experience with this medical practice. Convieniently located in the heart of campus, this place came to my rescue a couple of times over the past few years when I was too ill to make it to my registered doctors up in Maryhill. The reception staff are friendly, and the doctors even friendlier- which is what you want and need when feeling low. I've been able to get an emergency appointment before, and more recently a lovely nurse took out some stictches for me. It can take a couple of days to get an appointment but if you think it's serious they'll try and squeeze you in.

I have to say this review is for the GP service at Townhead HC NOT the dentistry, podiatry or other services that are provided here. I actually trained & worked briefly in the dentistry department and if I was to review them they'd get 5 stars, hands down. Lovely people & great service they're providing. But unfortunately the GP side is another matter...Townhead HC is split into a few differents 'wings' and I cannot remember exactly which wing my GP was based but as you walk into the centre if you head to the right hand side that was my GP reception & waiting room. Based within the Glasgow Royal Infirmary near the Alexandra Parade/maternity entrance & shopping concourse THC is quite handy for transport to and from (there is a bus stop right outside) but unfortunately they're opening times weren't that handy; pretty much 9-5pm. Maybe that has changed now, I hope so for the patients sake. One of the worst things I found with THC was trying to phone to make an appointment - this has to be one of the most frustrating phone-lines ever! Firstly you are given options for which service you require then eventually you are put through to reception to await a receptionist to take your call & give you an appointment...well, I must've spent HOURS over the years registered here waiting on the phone, trying to get through...so,so frustrating! Many times I would be waiting (phone ringing) and I would just get cut off! I swear the receptionists had a cut-off button so that if the phones rang for too long they could just shut them up with a quick press of a button. Great. Just what you need when you're ill and trying to phone up for an appointment! *sigh* Then when you DO eventually manage to get through some of the receptionists (well 2 in particular) are quite snappy with you & not the most pleasant of people. Turns out in the flesh they're (sometimes) even worse! Hmph. Quite often I have been offended or annoyed by them upon visiting the practice ~ they are also quite rude to people who cannot speak very good English (a lot of non-English speaking patients come here) which used to horrify me when I was sitting waiting to be seen (the waiting room sits directly opposite/beside the reception), don't get me wrong some people they had to deal with were just idiots but those that were just not used to speaking English very well or weren't used to a Glaswegian accent were often treated appallingly. I must add not ALL the receptionists were like this; just a couple in particular. The other thing I must add about trying to make an appointment here is please do not expect to get seen quickly! On occasions I had to wait nearly 3 weeks to get seen! Yes, THREE WEEKS. Ridiculous. It is (obviously) a very busy practice. Be aware of this. Doctor-wise it really was hit-or-miss in my experience...one of the nicest, kindest most caring doctors I have ever seen used to work here but unfortunately for myself (and other patients) she left to work elsewhere. I was truly sad to see her go. She was brilliant with me after my Dad passed away and on other occasions when I really needed help & reassurance. A lot of doctors don't give you the time of day (I realise they don't HAVE the time to give these days...) so it was so nice to have such a caring doctor as herself. I still miss her. The nurses here are most of the time very nice too, although my last encounter with one of them wasn't a great one...I was basically asked 'so why are you here exactly?!' and then I was told to leave & make another appointment at a later date. Ridiculous! Waste of time for both of us. I was not happy to say the least. But they provide a good service for non-urgent appointments also Well Woman, Phlebotomy, Antenatal, BP, Diabetes and other such clinics are held by themselves. The waiting room is a good size & the magazines are usually only a year or so out of date (compared to 2 or 3 years) so not terrible. Only one unisex toilet but there is a lift for disabled access.

When i got there i was still on the phone trying to get through. The receptionist then asked how can i help you, i told her i had been trying to get through for over 1hr,and she said i couldnt have been. The phone at reception was ringing, and i asked her why she wasnt answering it, her reply was she was talking to me. I then said if you answer the phone you can still talk to me. I then said no wonder i couldnt get through, no one answers the phone here. If looks could kill i would be dead. Thankfully she is not there now, but till a nightmare to get through and get an app.

Anyway, I'm a regular here...and whilst that's not a good script, I'm glad THIS surgery is the one I am registered at as its clean, friendly and gladly the staff have a clue!! Woooop!! Admittedly, sometimes it's frustrating trying to get a "routine" appointment, it can be a week's wait sometimes...but the receptionists are VERY good at trying to find something that fits into your schedule! The doctors are all knowledgeable (thankfully!!!) and seem to order all necessary tests immediately so no waiting around or multiple visits! I've recently received some excellent service from the surgery relating to a recent thyroid-issue diagnosis...there was no faffing about, I was referred to the endocrinology dept at the hospital really quickly and they even asked which hospital would be easiest for me to get to! Grand! They also have a handy prescription service where they've linked up with local Boots branches, so repeats are just sent down ready for collection...saves a trip and very helpful!
