Podiatry, just in case you might need to google it as I did, turns out to be a branch of medicine devoted to the study, diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle and lower leg. The above, is something which, as far as I know, is not offered elsewhere in the local vicinity. I discovered this, and indeed the centre itself, while investigating some massage gift vouchers for my gran (I decided to go along the more medical lines instead of beauty spa massages). From this visit, I can say that this centre is well equipped with all the relevant staff, equipment, space and resources. The staff in particular are extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about their wide range of products and treatments on offer. All of which can be purchased for a reasonable rate. These may be slightly more expensive that you would like. But these treatments are an investment, of sorts, and worth the occasional fee for most people. Thus, if your tempted by some of their specialist treatments and have a few extra pennies to hand - this place comes recommended by my granny.

This place does SPORTS massage, and the only relaxation you'll do is once it's over. Rought and Hard...just the way you want it. I had been having a muscular/nerve type problem with shoulder which wasn't going away, so after a month of painkillers I decided to seek out some help...which came in the form of Karen at Physiologix. She advised I only booked in for a 30 mins session, beeing a newbie and never having had any type of massage before. Good advice! She was pretty amazing at finding the sore spots and then working the hell out of them. I won't lie, at certain points (the injured parts) the massage is pretty sore and was glad I was facing down so she couldn't see the tears in my eyes. I was a strange "good pain" though as felt that it must surely be doing some good being so sore! You go in feeling like a lumpy, knotty piece of meat, but afterwards you feel like a smoothed out piece of dought that Paul Hollywood would be proud of! Sports massage is only one of the many treatments they offers, as well as Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Acupuncture and other stuff.

Since moving to the UK, it seems to come in waves. Yoga has been the only calming force and constant. Over a month ago, Abi opened up her boutique studio near Strathbungo and Queens Park and I have been a fan ever since. Compared to impersonal big box gyms, Barbreck is intimate and unintimidating, while offering you the ability to challenge yourself. Kettlebells? Athletic strength and conditioning (Olympic lifting)? Bootcamp? Boxing? Metafit? Pick your poison, and step up to the challenge. Classes are small, and guaranteed individual attention; something that is lacking when you sign up for a class where they squeeze in 30 students! It's a challenging environment, but also friendly and encouraging. In addition to classes, I work with Abi during personal training sessions where she creates workouts geared towards my goals. Though I think I made the mistake of telling her I wanted to strengthen my core for yoga inversions and arm balances, and I'm now in a world of pain. To compliment the fitness side, Abi also offers sports and massage therapy which is housed next to the studio. From training, injury assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and therapy, is there anything Abi cannot do? Oh she's also part owner of the Scottish Kettlebell Club too ;-)

To compliment a rigorous training program, it's important for self-care. While I have my favourite massage therapists in the city, it was important to receive comprehensive treatment from Abigail Johnston Sports Therapy. Since I have been working closely with Abi the past 2 months, she understands the strain and stress my body has been under. By seeking sports therapy, it helps decompress and relieve tension in muscles, and assists in the recovery process. Following a week of kettlebells, personal training, and a 3-hour session on bar bell and kettlebell technique, my body was in desperate need of R&R. I booked in an hour for sports massage with Abi and she worked her magic over my wrecked body, while focusing on the areas with the most tension. This was no fluffy spa massage with hardly any pressure; Abi gets in there to relieve the tension... in my shoulders, back, quads. It's murder at the time, but once it's over you feel like a brand new person with a spring in your step. After the session, she shared some observations and tips that I could do to prevent future injury. In addition to massage therapy, Abi offers injury assessment and rehabilitation. As I continue training with Abi, there is no question I will seek her expertise in recovery and book in for massage as often as I can!
