I love massages. I love to spoil myself with this indulgent and relaxing luxury. I love feeling like an absolute noodle afterward. I've come to the conclusion that when I die, I want to be reincarnated into a Wagyu cow (aka Kobe beef for you carnivores). Now they have the life! They live on a diet of beer and sake, and are massaged daily. I'd be one happy cow... except, I'm not too keen on getting slaughtered by the time I'm 3 years old to be devoured by posh people.
After getting a recommendation from a couple girl friends, I quickly made an appointment for a massage. I took advantage of the weekday morning special, which is £28 for an hour massage. I have to stress how amazing they were when I couldn't make my appointment due to a debilitating migraine. They normally charge a cancellation fee for last minute notice, but they were absolute gems and allowed me to reschedule to the following week. Thank you!!!
Just off of Woodlands Road, this quaint wee shop is stock full of herbal and natural remedies as well as a variety of bath and body products. I didn't have to wait long until I was whisked away to the therapy room. Paula was my massage therapist. We went over the typical admin stuff, including some health questions. I told her my problem spots, and she explained what she was going to do to cater to my needs. The room was dimly lit and clean. The massage table had a fresh cover and a sheet for draping the body. The massage was fantastic, especially for my exceptionally tense body (stressed much?). You can also opt to have calming music during your session. She was completely professional, and worked her way all over my body with grape seed oil. She will work on your gluteal muscles (aka the bum bum), but only if you're comfortable with it. You can also voice if the pressure is too light or too deep, and the therapist can adjust their style accordingly. The massage lasted about 50 minutes (with 5 minutes consultation and undressing, and finishing with another 5 minutes to gather yourself, getting dressed and drinking a glass of water). In the end, I felt like a noodle... and it was fantastic. After the massage, you should drink PLENTY of water, as the massage releases toxins from your body, and you don't want to be feeling miserable after an awesome massage. When I asked Paula of her availability, she emphasized that all the other therapists are great too if the days/times didn't suit me. Fantastic!
In addition to massages, the clinic also offers other bodywork therapies, medical herbalism, acupuncture and other therapies.
The sweet and lowdown: this place is fantastic for relaxing and therapeutic massages. For £28, you can't really lose out on an hour-long massage,. It was clean, professional, and soothing. I'll definitely be back for more! read more
