After spending a lot of time working on my dissertation, I felt like today was the day I was going…read moreto treat myself to a massage. I searched for massages in Glasgow (I usually go to a certain person in city centre who is wonderful, but she's usually booked well in advance) and happened upon The Embody Clinic. I was able to book online which was nice and it so happened that Andrea had a cancellation so I was able to book in for a 60 minute deep tissue massage within the hour that I booked. I was very pleased. I headed to the clinic- it's situated across from the side of Glasgow Green towards Bridgeton so I left quite early not sure how long it was going to take me to get there. I walked in and was immediately greeted by the receptionist. I let her know who I was and she asked me to take a seat. She offered me some water while I waited and filled out paperwork. Andrea came out to collect me and took me back in to her room. It was quite a cozy room, small and warm. There was a bed in the center with a blanket on top. She asked me what I was looking for and we went over a few key things and she left to let me get under the blanket. I've usually go for a swedish massages but I often times leave feeling a bit underwhelmed. I'm never sure if it's because I'm so tense or the massage is crap but I usually need a bit more pressure than just basic movements over my skin. I suggested this to her so she said that she would give me a deep tissue massage instead. Whoa boy, was this one of the better massages I've had in a long time! It brought me back to when I won a massage at one of the gyms I used to go to in the states where the massage therapist really went to town on my muscles. This was exactly the same and I was really happy about that. The massage only lasted an hour but I honestly could have stayed the whole day. She had me start on my back and she worked both arms and legs on the top, then she did my shoulders and neck from the top. I flipped over and she did the same but to my backside as well as my back. I was in pure heaven. For those of you wanting a massage and would like to get in the same day, take your chance on The Embody Clinic. In particular, Andrea. She's really great and I will be back for sure!

I was told that I had torn a tendon in my right foot and had a strain in my left foot as well as problems with my ligaments. I was advised by a friend to contact Elaine to see if she could help. I was a bit wary of doing this as I am no friend of needles - but as I was in so much pain I decided to try. When I met with Elaine she talked me through the proposed treatment and actually listened to what I had to say. I was pleasantly surprised that the treatment she provided was not what I thought it would be. I never thought that acupuncture could be relaxing. Following several sessions with Elaine I am able to walk without pain, wear my trainers again as the swelling I had previously reduced. I will continue to see Elaine weekly at this point to keep up the ongoing benefits. Elaine is a top professional but is also a very kind and caring person with great empathy - I cannot praise her enough.

I reckon this is one of the more upmarket beauty salons close to me. It's freshly painted exterior,…read moregold sign lettering and shiny windows definitely give over this impression. Inside it's no different - the place is extremely clean (something you would hope for in anywhere where these types of treatments go on), well organised and immaculately presented. This place deals in a whole range of beauty and health treatments. These go from the fairly common and basic such as spray tans, facials, hair removal and nail work (e.g. manicures and pedicures) to the more complex and advanced. This meaning reflexology, counselling and semi-permanent eyelash treatments. Unfortunately, these more complex and uncommon treatments are not ones that I have personally tried - or know someone who has. Instead, I have stuck to the basic nails, hair removal and the odd spray tan for big occasions in the summer when it seems compulsory to flash the flesh. For these common treatments, they did provide a good service with pleasant staff and the treatments certainly did what they were supposed to. However, after trying these out a few times I don't see how I can realistically justify going slightly further out of my way and spending slightly more money for the same outcome. Thus, I would only really suggest this place if you are seeking out some advice on their special treatments, or indeed the special treatments themselves without travelling into town. The offering of these few special and more unusual treatments are really the only reason for the fourth star. Though, it was also nice to be in somewhere a bit more upmarket for a one off.

Offering herbal remedies for everything ranging from a bruised leg to flu, this place is a welcome tonic to the "take this pill and it'll all be fine" approach of your local GP. In addition to the herbal stuff, you can also get a wide range of massages in this place, from relaxing and calming treatments to deep tissue sports orientated ones. Got one of Dem sports massages a few years ago after caputing my shoulder via a combination of roof work and mountain bike madness. The results were nothing short of amazing. This place also does some interesting herbal and natural products ranging from lip bam to toothpaste and deodorants. It also does candles and other nice smelling type items. I usually go to Karada Massage in High Street but I fear they may have closed down :( I could not access their website or phone them. *sob* So I needed a back up fast. I read on this here Yelp that WH were pretty good & also a friend of mine recommended them. I was so in need of relief (steady!) I phoned & made an appointment for that day. Got one luckily no bother. Brilliant. I wasn't sure exactly what type of massage to get (as they really do so many various kinds) so I explained to the nice lady on the phone & she said I could discuss my requirements on arrival with my therapist. My therapist was Isabel and she was very nice indeed. I explained to her my pain & she asked a few (relevant) questions & then said she would cater the massage to my needs ~ this being a back, shoulder, neck & face/head massage. Lovely job. I could not wait. My massage was for an hour and it was so so good. A wee bit sore at times but it was necessary as I was really knotted up & as tense as a very tense thing (apparently). She was very thorough and she did indeed massage all parts necessary, including my face which was so nice BUT as I didn't know I was getting a facial I had on my usual make-up which by the end of the massage, of course, ended up smudged all over my face! Ha ha! Oh dear...luckily they have a wee bathroom (with lovely smelling hand soap!) you can 'fix' yourself in after or else I would've scared the people of Woodlands with my mental clown face. Again. Doh. My particular massage treatment was £40 which you might think is a bit steep but for how much it helped me & how well it was catered to my needs I thought it was fair. Their website has a handy price-list so you can check how much your treatment should be before you go and check at what days/times they are available. Isabel recommended I come again in 2 weeks time (Yes, it was THAT bad!) and I did and again it was brilliant. She suggested monthly massages to me & I am actually really up for it as I am one of these people that really needs a good massage regularly. If only I was richer! Another really good thing about WH is that they stay open late on a Wednesday (and other evenings too), until 8pm I believe. This is great if you work 9-5pm. I also like the wee shop they have in here ~ lots of vitamins & herbal treatments/goodies, food/snack things & other stuffs. I just love the smell of this place as soon as you walk in...Mmmm! Herbs!
