    Fairy Tale Forest

Oak Ridge, NJ - calling all influencers! This place is hugely Instagrammable and super enchanting!…read moreLol. Mariah Carey even shot her Christmas music video here. But you don't have to care about snapping cute pics to appreciate that Fairy Tale Forest is an absolute wholesome delight for children and for adults to live their childhood nostalgia. There is a real magical forest feel as you wander through the park, which isn't large, but the life-size storybook cottages and fairy tale sets are beautifully detailed and lovingly restored. The grounds are clean and well-manicured (a sign says the gardens are curated by Raine Garden Designs). A list of daily events & activities are posted such as magic shows, live music, and character meet & greets. The staff and actors are all warm and friendly. My child loved running around and exploring, participating in the activities, but I enjoyed it just as much if not more. There are shaded picnic tables under umbrellas (next to the Bluebird Stage so you can catch a show while you eat). The food is from the on-site restaurant Fables, and is quite good, certainly better than your average amusement park fare (I was really happy to get a proper salad!). The restaurant is only open for private parties/events/rentals at the moment, but I'm told they hope to have it up and running at some point. The interior is also themed. There is a reasonably priced gift shop with a nice selection of toys, souvenirs, costumes, and gifts. I would say this park is suitable for younger kids, maybe up to 8 or even an unjaded 10yo (have your kids dress up as knights, wizards, princesses, and fairy tale characters!). It's also kind of a cool spot for a date. This is an "analog" park with some animatronics, and you shouldn't expect any dazzling razzmatazz or high-octane thrills. Six Flags it ain't. But come with the right mindset for the unique experience this is and you won't be disappointed. It's good ol' fashioned throwback family fun and brings back an era that doesn't exist anymore. Indeed, many NJ locals have fond memories of this park from when they were young. It was built in the 1950s by an industrious German dude and features scenes from Grimm's Fairytales that his mother used to read to the family, and was expanded with more set pieces over the next couple of decades. Unfortunately it closed down in 2003 and FINALLY reopened last year, after efforts were stalled during the pandemic. All I can say is goooo and visit this charming, singular, and uncorporatized attraction, and support a still founding family-owned local business. It's a complete joy!

I could maybe see older kids not enjoying it but my 4 year old and 2 year old refused to leave. (I would say maybe the age I would reconsider it is 8 or 9. I'm not sure.) My kids were absolutely enthralled and loved every minute of it. I believe they added a bunch more activities like the scavenger hunt, story time, and the rainbow baton scarves so the previous reviews are from their opening year. Prices were very reasonable. We definitely make this an annual activity

A breathtaking view, unforgettable food, and an experience that stays with you…read more Dining at The View at Mount Fuji is not just a meal--it's a moment. Nestled in the mountains, this gem offers stunning panoramic views that make you pause, breathe deeper, and appreciate the beauty around you. Whether you come for a special occasion or just want to treat yourself, it feels like a hidden escape above it all. The ambiance is elegant but welcoming, with floor-to-ceiling windows that make every table feel like front row seats to nature's show. Now let's talk food--flavorful, beautifully presented, and full of Japanese tradition with a modern twist. From the sushi to the hibachi, everything was fresh and artfully prepared. The staff was warm, attentive, and truly made the evening feel special. I left with a full belly, a full heart, and way too many photos of the view (and no regrets about it). Perfect for date nights, birthdays, or anytime you want to elevate your dining experience--literally.

We went to the Lodge Steakhouse for the first time after several wonderful meals at the Cantina…read more The setting was absolutely breathtaking. We felt like we were walking through a fairytale-like winter wonderland in Idaho or Jackson Hole. It had just snowed and truly looked magical. Perfect landscape design and and lighting. The dining room itself is equally elegant, decor is on point, upscale and super-tasteful, and atmosphere is fantastic. We were SO excited about the drinks, wine and food menus. Ordered liberally to try a lot of different things, and... womp womp. While the plating and presentation of all we ordered was perfect, the taste did not rise to the level of the presentation. The martini had a strange undertone, The Pinot was thin and underwhelming. The oysters all had pieces of shell in them from how they were shucked that then had to be fished out from one's palate (and there's no way to do that that's not awkward at a full table). The octopus was overcooked. They serve garlic biscuits, which were tasty but we didn't finish them bc no one was blown away. The duck - skin was scored properly but not given enough time time crisp or pan not hot enough, so served soggy, tho the meat was done correctly. All dishes sat upon a turnip puree, with the duck having additional (also soggy veggies), and the steak having additional shredded cabbage. French fries came out nearly cold but in a nice metal basket lined with parchment. They looked perfect and then the bite was, well, not hot. Mashed potatoes were good. Presented well. Perhaps the highlight of the evening? The service was very good, by the way. Staff was fantastic. It's just that something was a near miss on the food... very heavy handed, the unique tastes and freshness of the ingredients cooked out of many... a very different experience than had in the cantina, where the food has been perfect each time. 2 Coffees, 2 sodas, 1 martini and one glass of wine, 2 apps, 3 entrees, and one dessert with standard tip came out to just under $500. It's a lot for an underwhelming meal. Food wise, if I were to recommend a fine dining establishment where the food is superlative for the same price, I'd say Hudson House in Nyack, hands down. While they don't have the same ethereal setting, the culinary aspect cannot be beat. They do have oysters that are shucked correctly and a killer steak au poivre with pomme frites that's incredible. Perhaps we'll try this place again in the future. Not sure if it's new? Only just learned about the Lodge Steakhouse part, so who knows. Summary: Overall, gorgeous setting, food presentation. Staff service: lovely, actual taste of each dish: meh.

It's right in Sloatsburg tucked in behind another bar on Old Rt 17 - I've passed by and never realized it! We came to have Sunday Brunch/Lunch at the Cantina and were very impressed! It was the weekend of Halloween so it was still decorated with lots to look at. Drink-wise, we started with the Rose and the Pink Cobbler which was like a fruity twist on an Old Fashioned. We ordered the Shaved Brussel Sprouts pizza to share along with the Lobster Crisps to start. The lobster was YUM. It was a cold lobster served with house chips. The pizza was great! It wasn't heavy and included fall flavors such as butternut squash. For dessert, we shared the ricotta zeppoles which came with a chocolate sauce. Service was excellent. Valley Rock Inn Cantina is a little slice of heaven away from the noises of NYC and yet you don't feel like you're in Rockland County. It's hard to explain but it transports you to somewhere else. I can't wait to come back again for dinner!

(Reservations are not that easy to make last minute.) The restaurant is big and open but always busy. Kids get wax craft sticks to play with and bend into cool shapes, which I find very unique and cool. I feel like there is a difference between a diner and a true brunch place. A diner, of which there are numerous in New Jersey, is a establishment that churns out inexpensive, and potentially excellent, but very standard breakfast food - omelettes, pancakes, benedicts and the like. A true brunch place, on the other hand, offers things like lemon ricotta pancakes, cacio e pepe scrambles, mushroom thyme omelettes and shakshuka. Willow & Whisk is that kind of brunch place, and which is rare in New Jersey. The food options are varied, very tasty, and with good portion sizes. I love the shakshuka and the mushroom thyme omelette. Oh gosh, when is our next reservation again?

The highlight was definitely the Stuffed French Toast. It looked beautiful, and I expected it to be overly sweet, but it was surprisingly well balanced. The toast was soft with a slightly crispy exterior, and the cream cheese filling paired really well with the strawberry compote. We also ordered the BLT+. The smoked bacon was delicious, but the focaccia was a little too thin and hard, making it harder to eat than I expected. The house-made sausage was good, just not particularly memorable. As for the coffee, it was probably the most disappointing part of the meal. The latte wasn't very smooth, and the cold brew had a slight off taste. They were both drinkable, just not something I'd order again. Overall, I'd recommend this place for the food and the atmosphere, especially if you're interested in the French toast. There's also parking behind the restaurant, which makes visiting easy.
