For starters, we had the cheese board and went with the one that featured 5 different cheeses, along with pork pate, jam, honey, olives, and butter. Be warned, the serving size of the cheese board was much bigger than we expected. We had plenty for leftover afterwards. For the main dish, I tried their signature roasted octopus on a roof tile. The octopus is very chewy, but it paired fairly well with the sourness of the pickled vegetables in the dish.

I think this will go down as my most memorable meal during this Portugal trip. Loved everything…read morethat I ate, in a lovely bustling dining room full of life and Portuguese food. Started off with some calamari and Sao Jorge cheese with bread. The calamari wasn't the best I've ever had, but it was tender and fresh and very light. The Sao Jorge cheese may be the best I have had. By the time it gets to the United States it's certainly a HARD cheese, but this was soft and almost spreadable on the bread. Delicious. The menu here is massive. They had about 6 different Portuguese steak options, but I went for the classic with egg and peppers. I do with there were more red peppers on my steak, but I appreciate the hefty amounts of garlic and sauce. The steak itself was cooked perfectly to medium rare and tender. I'm not a big steak girlie but I ate the whole thing in no time. The bottle of wine certainly helped it go down easily. Finished the meal with a chocolate crepe, which I can still taste as I type this. Loved this place and will come back every time I am in Ponta Delgada.

Service was good, ordered the usual local fresh cheese, chef's garlic shrimps, and the grilled limpets. All the appetizers was pretty good, but not the best we've had so far on the island. For the entrees we ordered the traditional tripe, seafood rice and the grilled tuna. The tuna was tender and melted in your mouth, the tripe and seafood rice were bextremely salty. It was just too difficult to eat. Our fingers was swelling up just after a few bites and couldn't get enough water. But the is not a uncommon issue. Any of the "stewed" traditional dishes are super salty in most of the restaurants. I felt like I was a big piece of salted cod after how much salt was ingested from the entrees.

I ordered the sirloin steak with regional sauce and it came with just fries so I ordered a side of sautéed veggies so my body would get some vitamins. The steak had really no flavor in it. It seems like no restaurants in Portugal serve veggies any other way than boiled which is really strange.
