SCAMMERS!!! AVOID this place! It's the one with the Cancún sign in front. They try to take advantage of you. Trust me on this, there's way better stores down the street with better pricing. Try Flea Market Coral Negro. The workers at Mercado 28 say they give you a discount etc etc. tell you a good price but when you check out, they take you to the jewelry section, this is where they charge you double if not triple. Total came out to $120. I did the math, came out to $40 a t-shirt and $20 each magnet. WTF..... When u ask them to show yo u the break down of each item. They get defensive and become rude aggressive and hostile. FYI, amusement park prices at Xcaret is cheaper and better quality than this place. Dont get flustered. Don't get mad. Just leave. Don't feel pressured to buy.

I want to give this place 2 stars put some people like these type of places and there were plenty of joyful merchants here. My gripes are these. There are no prices on most of the items which makes you hassle and negotiate. The items with prices were marked up 3x. I don't want to waste time haggling over some souvenirs when I can just go to the store across the street and pay 20% less. There were limited restrooms. Some sales people are really pushy. I like the variety of souvenirs, the food was decent, and some of the people were very memorable and very pleasant. I wouldn't want to go again but I would if it meant a friend not going alone.

Great place to find some good deals. If you're coming from one of the resorts you can take the autobús #2 which will take you there. At least that's the one I took. Big marketplace where you can find a lot of local souvenirs and if you're hungry there's some places to eat. The vendors will try to get you into their puestos to check out the merchandise. Totally up to you. Most of all the puestos have the same items. So if you're shopping around you can haggle if you want. You may even get the you "speak Spanish discount" like I got a lot. Lol. Depending on the weather may decide how long you stay. Gets pretty warm walking around even though it's open air. Have fun shopping. Stay hydrated.

I visited the Mercado with one goal in mind--putting my negotiation skills to the test! Who doesn't love a good haggle? As soon as you arrive, you're greeted by rows of stalls packed with everything from hats and clothing to jewelry and unique oddities. It's a treasure box of souvenirs, but the real fun is in the bargaining. One vendor cleverly lured us into his air-conditioned stall (smart move on a hot day), and I was almost sold on a beautiful Mayan stone that changed colors in different lighting. It started at $160, but after some back-and-forth negotiations, I worked it down to $40--still walked away, though! I wasn't looking for anything specific, just the thrill of the deal, and this was definitely the place to do it. If you're visiting, remember: never settle for the first price. The real experience is in the haggle!

This is where you can buy souvenir. According to our local driver the prices for souvenirs should be the cheapest compared to other tourist destinations and hotel gift shops so no need to negotiate for prices. We also purchased tours here, the price is half compare to our hotel tour desk. There're also a lot of restaurants and street food vendors in the market, the food looks very attractive.

Came as a tourist with my girlfriend. I knew we'd be hassled to buy stuff from the vendors but honestly no one was overly pushy. A simple " we're just looking" and you keep it moving and they leave you alone. We searched around until we felt we got a good deal, so I'd say don't buy on your first store but look at all of them until you find the best price. They don't have prices on a lot of the items so I felt like we got higher prices cuz we're Americans. Still good price for what we left with ( a little mezcal souvenir, a rosary, some cricket snacks) for 33USD$. Compared to what I saw in other places this was way better ( other places being outside of market 28). We found the bracelets we paid 15 dollars in Playa del Carmen, here for 5 dollars . So mad. We were able to get 2 bracelets and 1 necklace for 12$. We found a nice little taco stall. 2 tacos for 60 pesos (a little over 3USD). We came here via uber from our hotel and left in uber too. We saved money by going solo instead of a tour group.

Arrive early because even though it says they're open until 6pm, half the shops will be closed by 5pm. Negotiate to your hearts content! Don't accept the price from the first stall, and check out all the stalls until you find a plausible or cheaper price. Every shop has similar items, and once you find the best price, go for it. They KNOW you're a tourist if you're here, so they will hike prices up so don't let your guard down. It's an honestly fun experience, but if you're not fluent in Spanish, and speak English, prices might go higher. Nothing to be scared of, because there are people trying to make a living too. Remember they are people, and they're trying their best~ don't take one bad encounter and judge everyone else. There are less aggressive sellers. You can find all kinds of gifts and foods! Beware the jewelry shops. Unless you want to roam around the nice air conditioned room, because I asked questions in front of the air conditioner myself to cool down. If you're shy, I don't recommend this because it's hard to turn away and say no or ignore the aggressive sellers when you walk away.

I was almost a little skeptical about going to Mercado 28 after reading a lot of the reviews. However once we got there we were greeted with very warm pillows. Granted they do ask to come to their shops but no you're not required to go but if you desire I'm used to shopping at local marts and other countries and it is very high paced and crowded but this was not that type of experience. Everyone that worked there was respectful when we stated we were not interested or we had enough items. During our visit we even ate some of the most delicious and fresh seafood. We went to the shops and parking lot one and we also ate and the area entitled parking lot 1 more of the better shops people were friendly and we had a good time they even had my son dancing.

Stay away from this place it's a tourist trap. Everything is overpriced. You can get stuff for a lot cheaper, walking around Cancun and shopping it normal shops. The stall owners will try and rip you off selling the same products everyone else sells. There's really nothing original do not go into the places with air-conditioning they will rip you off the most. read more

So many shops to choose from and lots of fun finds. The reason I give this 1 star is because they rip you completely off. They tried to sell us a kids shirt for $30 dollars so we haggled it down to $10 and come to find out a couple booths down was selling the same one for $5. Many times we haggled and then they tried to tel us an extra few dollars for a tip should be included. I understand this is their job but seriously?! It's very frustrating. If you have a wristband from a hotel on, hide it somehow.... that's how they know what to offer you in price. They don't take into account some people get good deals and truly can't afford some of those prices they offer. read more
Cancun doesn't really have a flea market, but if it did this would be the place, but generally all the items you see here can be found at other places as well. They don't necessarily have the cheapest souvenirs here, but every stall has something to offer in forms of gifts to bring home. Of course a lot of people are calling out to you in order to get your attention to come into their stalls. I wasn't able to buy much because my souvenirs are always specific and they didn't have want I wanted to I left empty handed, but it's a good place to start if you just want basic gifts to bring back to friends and family. Parking was plentiful and free. read more
Visiting Cancun? This IS a must-visit for all tourists. This is a very LARGE flea market with a huge amount of items being EXACTLY the same, so it comes down to negotiating the price. Take the R-2 Bus. They will drop you off 2-3 blocks from the REAL Mercado 28 because the bus turn around is AT the market, so there is no stops there. Cost to take the bus 12 pesos each way (24 total). Vendors GALORE selling: leather made shoes, clothing, wallets; blankets; pottery; cups; small souvenirs (key chains, nail clippers, etc); skull art, table runners, tequilla bottle holders made in pyramid with a set of shot glasses; tequilla (various brands and bottle sizes), and a food court. The vendors will entice you with freebies, don't be deceived! They will guilt you into buying, so DO NOT ACCEPT ANYTHING FOR FREE. Negotiate the price on EVERYTHING! ....... Remember, you can ALWAYS walk away. They will all say: "My friend ......?" Forget that! They are NOT your friend, it was really irritating to keep hearing this. BUT, I enjoyed walking around and seeing what was available. There was some pretty nice pottery: plates and bowls of various sizes that can be placed directly into the oven and are all LEAD-FREE. I ended buying mugs that morphed into a Cancun scene when hot water was put into it. Pretty cool :) Best price at $80P or $150P for 2, so I spent about $8USD. Visit as a group of at least 2+ ppl. Do NOT go alone, best to be with a crowd you know. BE SAFE. read more

THIS PLACE IS ABSOLUTE TRASH. As a tourist in Cancun, I would highly recommend tourists to NOT visit mercado 28. Unless you are dying to get souveniors, mercado 28 is not a pleasant place to be. The trek to get there is a headache and the vendors at mercado 28 are rude, racist and unfriendly. First, if you took the R-2 bus to Mercado 28, you probably got dropped off at PLAZA 28, which is this bright pink building. Both are very different as Plaza 28 is a knockoff of Mercado 28. Plaza 28 is more expensive and definitely a tourist trap. You'll notice that bus drivers get compensation on the amount of people they drop off at Plaza 28. If you are still want to go to mercado 28, one must walk down 2 blocks to reach mercado 28. There is no obvious sign that points to Mercado 28,so having a roaming plan or downloading google maps will be very helpful. Once at mercado 28, you will get swarmed with vendors trying to have you check out their crap. Stay strong and politely decline. I mostly ignored the racist kids/vendors who said demeaning phrases to grab my attention. You will find every type of souvenior possible here from shot glasses, backpacks, decorated masks, jewelry, clothing etc. If you do end up purchasing something here, MAKE SURE YOU HAGGLE. I personally would not pay for anything over $10 USD here. The food resturants here are even worse. The staff will harass you with their menu selections and the food here is disgusting. Kitchen staff will say a brunch of crap just to get you to dine at their establishment like throwing in free drinks, complimentary sides of rice/beans etc. Just know you will end up paying for the "free" sides as the resturant server just secretly adds charges onto your bill. My bill had an extra $100 MXN added onto it, but I was so tired of everyone's BS here, I just paid and left. The food here was not even cheaper than some of the places I ate at in the Hotel Zone. I ordered three tacos for $70 MXN and the tacos were a COMPLETE JOKE. It was literally just a tortilla with 4 pieces of my choice of meat. So dissappointing... Mercado 28 is not worth the headache and no one in my group ended up buying anything here anyways. Save your time and visit a beautiful beach instead. read more

Came to this swap meet type plaza to have a quick bit for lunch and do some last minute shopping. We ate Shrimp Cocktail and had fresh squeezed orange juice ( suuuper delish!!) . Walked around a bit to kill time since our flight wasn't leaving until 5:30pm. Bought some nice keep sakes and even got my hair braided (love it!!). We also bought some really nice Tequileros (canister and shot glasses) that have really nice holders in the form of the Mayan Ruins and the Aztec Calendar (I'll upload pictures of them later). This is a must see little spot as they have all kind of things to see and buy. The food here in general is really good. read more
Was not impressed with this place, at all. If your staying in hotel zone, you can find pretty much anything in your local "flea markets" or souvenir shops just steps away from the hotel. At the market, you can't even walk 5 feet without people trying to drag you in and pressure you into buying. I get it, there trying to make a living. But it was just really annoying, to the point where I would never go back. Majority of the stores have the same stuff, just different prices. A lot of stores don't have prices on the products, they start high but always cut the price but nearly 50% when you turn them down. I did purchase a couple cool souvenirs. A shot glass, magnet, etc. Everything I purchased was not only available much closer to my hotel, but also at the shop located inside my hotel. I would skip this one, not sure how it made it on so many "must do" lists online. The commute to and from is over an hour, just not worth it. Spend your time more wisely, so much cooler things to do then this place . read more
Get ready to do some shopping! A quick bus ride away from the hotels in Cancun you take the R1 bus It will cost you 12 pesos each. Once you get there the bus driver will let you out about a quarter-mile away. There is another market right where you get off where there are sales people outside trying to rush you into buy stuff from them. Don't fall for the trap. Go ahead and Google and MapQuest follow the map you have to walk down like I said a few blocks to get to the actual market. It is like a swap meet in indoor swap meet 90% of the stores all carry the same stuff. Negotiate Negotiate negotiate they do look at you and they're going to start high sometimes they win sometimes they lose. Keep looking and ask we bought our kids some items there and one place had it for 200 pesos when we kept walking we actually got it for 100 pesos the same item. read more

It had been about a billion years since my last visit to Cancun. We did the obligatory time share tour (hey we got a beachside massage out of it) so we asked the driver to take us to the market instead of our hotel. I figured I'd get a free ride out of it versus paying for the bus and/or taxi. Mind you when we got there I quickly realized this is a bit of a tourist trap given the bus stoppage and the number of tourists pouring out. Granted at this point I really didn't feel like exploring and we were starving. We ate at the restaurant the food was pretty good although it was a bit pricey but that seemed to be on par with what we paid when we ate out. After eating the vendors weren't too bothersome perhaps because I speak Spanish as well. I did haggle but still dropped a decent amount of cash here between buying souvenirs for others at home and I scored an embroidered flower dress that I've been wanting for myself. This wasn't quite the local market I remember going to as a kid but as others have mentioned there is another more local one not too far from here which in hindsight was probably the one I wanted to actually go to but no biggie. I got some cool stuff I was looking for and certainly when I return to Cancun again the shopping list will be much smaller. read more
So NOT waste your time here. The shop owners stalk you like nothing I've ever experienced. They follow you throughout the tents. What's sad is if they let you breathe and look you would probably buy something, but the stalking and harassing is relentless and not worth it at all. read more

If you want to avoid the sun's heat, shop in a shop with fans around to cool off but still get the exact same items all under one roof, Plaza 28 in Downtown Cancun is what you need. No need to bargain here because all are fixed priced items labelled on them. No need to carry cash as they accept credit cards and give you a receipt and complete invoice with Tax ID number, so it is safe to shop here. This is a big roof that has jewellery, mexican made items, souvenirs, pharmacy, tequila and restaurant all in one. Folks here welcome you as you enter and al though they talk to keep you comfortable to shop, they aren't annoying as people say in the other markets like Mercado 28 or the Flea market(where you do everything on your own from bargaining to finding shops). So, if you like fixed prices, hassle-free shopping, air-conditioned shopping, this is the place to look for. read more

Really enjoyed visiting this mercado. I was staying about 2 blocks away and I really enjoyed all the souvenirs, food and clothes that this place has to offer. Don't overlook this place but don't also let these people overcharge you. It was a bit hard to bargain but don't pay a ridiculous price for items. Keep looking around and you will always find stuff cheaper. There is also a Cancun sign here if your looking for some good photos to take with the sign read more

How could you visit Cancun and NOT come to Mercado 28? It's the next best place to shop for some cheap good goods. However, make sure that you are careful because people will sale you fake items and jewelry. But honestly, I had a great time walking around seeing all the lovely people trying to get me to buy something and witness and taste all the delicious restaurants in the area! During my trip to Cancun, Mercado 28 was definitely on my list. I was staying in the Hotel Zone and took the bus R2 close to the shopping area. Mercado 28 is a big shopping center that has a large amount of stuff to look at. The bus will drop you off in front of a market Called Plaza 28 (which is good for shopping as well) and you continue to walk down the street until you see the entrance on the left with the Market 28 sign. Once you go inside, walk up and down the different isles looking at jewelry, purses, souvenirs and many more. Make sure your reason and negotiate a price that you feel comfortable paying. It's really easy to bargain here as many people want to get rid of their items. The vendors can be a little pushy at some of their stops, but you have to learn how to say "No", and you would be just fine. Many people seem to get held up at the jewelry store called Opalo. Yes, you will walk in and they will want to sell your jewelry for a crazy ridiculous price, and they want to offer you a Tequila tasting, OMG. I learned that the goal is to encourage you to take the tequila tastings so you can get tipsy/drunk and buy more! HAHA! Pretty funny to me. I am happy to report that I stood my ground, this chick right here was not falling for the nice mouthpiece! However, I had a great time being entertained by all the pushy salesman trying to sell me items. I would say that if you were looking for souvenirs, then this would be the perfect place for you. This market is great to get gifts and souvenirs. I WOULDN'T encourage buying jewelry from here. Honestly, I highly doubt that it's real! Mercado 28 was definitely a sight to see! Something you must do at least once when you come to Cancun! read more

AMERICANS: PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THESE SCAM ARTIST MERCHANTS AT MERCADO 28 MARKET! I would like to rate zero star if I could. We were shown Mercado 28 on a "street food" tour. We went back, taking a cab. Apparently, the cab drivers are on the take with Venta de Artesanias Opalo, a scam jewelry store in Mercado 28, where the cab dropped us into the waiting embrace of the proprietress named Michelle and she claimed that she came from Chicago. Her English was excellent, and within a minute she had margaritas in our hands. I was initially looking for a pair of inexpensive earrings as a vacation gift for my mom. Having chosen a pair (and lubricated with tequila), I made the grave mistake letting it slip that my fiancé and I were in the market for our wedding rings. Long story short, we left the store $2800 lighter, with "Zultanite" earrings, a "Zultanite" pendant, and a pair of opal and silver wedding rings. We were then steered toward her tequila shop to buy ludicrously overpriced bottles to bring home as gifts. Coming home, I read the reviews I should have read before going. The "Zultanite" jewelry was obviously fake, and the opal rings were worth a fraction of what we paid. Lesson learned: NEVER buy without prior research, NEVER accept an alcoholic drink from a merchant, and NEVER, EVER trust any merchant in a Mexican tourist destination. One of merchant at the market intentionally and duplicately charged my fiancee over T shirts purchase at their booth. He had to call his credit card company to dispute the charge and it's obviously a fraudulent charge. These merchants at Mercado 28 are nothing but a crooks and a scam artists whose outrageously ripped off American tourists's hard earned money. Their moral compass obviously doesn't mean anything to them. I hope the people of Mexico are very PROUD of what they did to the tourists. CROOKS !!!! read more

Mercado 28 is a pretty good spot to buy souvenirs. You gotta walk in to get good prices and don't let friendly locals trick you to go into their jewelry store. My grandma bought some bracelet that looked super fake and paid a grip. Make sure to stay hydrated as I felt like passing out from the heat. Make sure to bring pesos not USD or you'll pay more. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. To any tourists visiting I advise you to AVOID this scam market. You can get better prices and your moneys worth at the hotel or stores closer to the hotels. They are overly aggressive, rude, no respect and will complaint when you don't buy or ignore them. I was there for 20 minutes and left because you can't just walk around in peace. Everything is overpriced!! La Isla mall stores offers the same darn things for a much cheaper price. read more

This place is the biggest tourist trap. One of the workers literally followed us around the entire time and tried to show us jewelry which we kept politely declining. The stuff is promised to be "hand-made" but more than likely came from China. After we paid for our over-priced Christmas ornament and tortilla basket, the guy followed us out of the shop asking for a tip. Serious waste of a morning- this is anything but an authentic experience. If you aren't used to haggling and don't want cheap tourist-y Knick-knacks, skip it. read more
I know it's been said before, but this place is a complete and utter tourist trap. I've been to actual Mercados, where you can pay $1 for some meat-on-a-stick (when you ask what type of meat, the answer is generally "carne") and where you walk the aisles between farmers and fishermen selling their catch to local restaurants and elderly women selling handmade baskets. This is not an actual Mercado. When you walk in, you're immediately attacked by tons of vendors, all trying to pull you toward their stands where they're selling generic items that scream "I'm an American and bought this in Mexico." The food choices consists entirely of a cafe selling overpriced Mexican food attached to the outlet. Doors are glued shut, presumably so you get lost in the overpriced maze of a mall (that's what this is - a mall, not a mercado) and end up buying something, anything. I can just imagine what it's like when the cruise ship buses drop people off here. Get out while you can. Don't believe anyone who tells you that this is the place to go. Save your money and spend it on a rental car instead so you can drive outside of Cancun and go find some actual mercados in some actual Mexican towns. read more

LARGE touristy Mexican flea market, full of souvenirs. Many many vendors, and much redundant product. Sombreros, ponchos, wallets, table runners, lots of embroidery, blouses, skull art, pottery.. so much!! Fun and festive vibe lots of food too, and candy. This is a huge flea market! If you're not here to shop or have no interest in shopping, you'll get bored. It's worth a visit since it's a tourist trap. Many different things on sale. Look around then leave. Not much happening here. The souvenirs here weren't cheap also. I didn't buy anything because I felt I could get it cheap elsewhere. Easily accessible by the bus. However I did miss my stop and had to walk a few blocks back. Kind of hard to know where to get off so let the bus driver know so he can make an announce. read more

Mercado 28 in Cancun MX has Tour Operator with a stand at its main entrance Baktun Tours. I want to caution folks not only are they more expensive than what you can buy in front Wal-Mart just across the street or any of the tour stands near the Hotel Zones they showed up 1 hour late on our very first day first tour then the following day they never showed up ! We had to stand in front of there booth and discourage people from buying before they arranged to take us to the park but we lost half a day at the Xplor park because of these folks.. It's a very touristy market right on bus route R-2. They'll offer a free tasting of 5 increasingly expensive tequilas when you come in then try to get you to buy all kinds of things. You won't see this selection of tequila anywhere else! I wish I could have bought so many of the shirts; I ended up haggling a little to get a México soccer jersey with the logo of a tournament from a couple years ago. I wanted to buy a few bars of some nicer looking Mexican chocolate but they didn't have a price listed anywhere so I skipped them. Everyone will try to push their stuff on you but just walk away and politely decline if you feel uncomfortable. read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. On the one hand I get annoyed by the constant hustle by the vendors.and on the other I blame the tourist looking to haggle them so low to the point that they have to resort to finding other ways to make up the different.as a result you've created a rip off environment. I'm not much of a haggler but the damage is done which means I get caught up on their rip off schemes also. You can believe just about every negative story you read on these post cause I've experienced several of them myself. Yet I still enjoy coming to places like this. I'm just saying? maybe if we the tourist stop trying to negotiate them down to 5 pesos for just about every item, we would actually start earning thier respect. Or maybe it's too late. read more

Recently traveled to Cancun for the first time and was looking forward to some good authentic street food and shopping. The bus drive was $12.50 pesos or $1 US dollar, so cheap to get there. The ride was about 30 minutes from Zona Hotelera. While yes, there are a lot of vendors selling souvenirs I didn't feel it was any price difference from the places closer to the hotels. Vendors would say they give you a discount but prices are not listed; therefore you really don't know what the true price is. I did get a few items for a couple of bucks less than the first price I was given. For food I did not see many vendors, rather 3 or 4 sit down restaurants which is not what I was looking for. I also arrived around 10am and the place was pretty empty and easy to walk and look. The vendors would welcome and encourage you to take a look. As the day went on and more people arrived it felt the vendors got pushy and followed you around. Also if you are staying in the Zona Hotelera, there is a similar but much smaller market called Coral Nergo, I would suggest going there first and save yourself the travel time. read more

This is a must if you plan to go to Cancun and buy gifts for family/friends. I went in the morning around 9am. Some places were just starting to open and it gave my friend and I a chance to look around with no big crowds. I definitely recommend to have pesos when purchasing items, it'll be a lot easier. Be prepared to have everyone trying to get you to buy from their shop. I would recommend to grab some food there because it's delicious. If you took the bus R2 from the Hotel zone and it dropped you at the last stop it's not Mercado 28. It's Plaza 28. Mercado 28 is about 5 mins walk away in the same direction as the bus. In Mercado 28, it helps if you can speak Spanish and are a good negotiator. It requires a lot of haggling and the prices aren't as good as you would expect. We found the souvenirs for about one-fourth the price at Chichen Itza and other mercados outside of Cancun. Honestly, if this is your first visit to Cancun I wouldn't recommend you to waste your precious vacation time here. There are so many better things to do in and around Cancun. Also, stay away from the goods in the store. Don't touch anything. As there is no price on the goods, you'll have to pay whatever the shop owner demands should you break anything. One of our friend was holding a vase which she dropped on three china dishes stacked on each other. The vase was alright but the 3 china dishes were broken and we had to shell out 90 USD for those as the shop owner priced them at 30 bucks a piece. We wouldn't have paid even 5 bucks for each if she wouldn't have broken them. The food at the market sucks too. I had a grilled fish at one of the restaurants specializing in veracruzana cuisine. It seemed stale and was not tasty as well. Will never return. read more

This was such a fun and interesting experience! I took the R-2 bus from one of the hotels for 1USD per person and had it drop me off at the pink Mercado 28. This is NOT THE REAL MARKET. Keep walking straight and eventually you will find the real one (I think like 4 blocks, felt like forever). You will know you have gotten there when you see the black Mercado 28 sign above the building. Also, good chance people might try to direct you to the market to get you inside their family business. Another tip, do not enter the jewelry stores. It may seem tempting, but they are very aggressive with the customers, although I know they are just trying to sell their items. All vendors accept either US dollars or pesos, however it is recommended that you pay with pesos for the best deal. Most of the vendors repeat items, so look around to get the best deal before you settle with the first one. Also, as expected sometimes the sellers can get pushy, however just a polite no thank you or Hola and keep walking will do. Overall a very hot environment, be sure to drink lots of water before you go. Getting on the bus to return was probably the hardest part! Ask locals, stay safe! read more

I REALLY wanted to see this place because I didn't want to be like one of those tourists that stay in the resort the whole time. I just wanted to be able to say that I went "inland" to Downtown Cancun. I'm glad I did, but probably wouldn't again. The things they sell aren't much different from what they sell at The Forum, which is closer and where vendors don't harass you as much. We got a bit lost looking for the bus stop back to the Hotel Zone, and people were always willing to help in exchange of us giving them our time for a sales pitch. So the bus drops you off at Plaza 28 which looks like a nice place from the outside. It even has the cancun logo sign outside of it. When we went there was a man who offered us tequila samples and when I bought the tequila (3 bottles for $80) he took my card and went top the back to wrap my tequila. His "friend" was being very sketchy and followed us around the store and told us if we needed anything to go to him directly. Something was very off but we figured they were being protective. As we left with the tequila they gave us free bis passes and told us the best way to get back to our hotels. A couple days later I realized they had charged me $700 dollars and made up a fake store name in the charge. I know it was them because that was the only place I used my card that day. They are scam artists watch out! Make sure you pay in cash in all the Cancun shops! read more

HORRIBLE. My dad, 4 year old and I visited January 2017. We came to this market looking to buy some authentic Mexican Souvenirs. The first place you encounter when you are dropped off, is a Plaza. This is not the Market. Proceed past this plaza a few blocks and you find the market. The first thing you will encounter is tequila vendors trying to give you free tequila and pull you into a Jewelry Store. They will not even let you look without continually hounding you to buy. I understand sales tactics but this was over the top ridiculous. The next shop was worse. They asked where we were from, and upon learning we were Americans, upped the price of everything. As in they wanted $65 for a t-shirt and $20 for a tiny wooden care for my son. We ended up paying $8 for the car (which was wayyy to much for what it was) and left. Also they refused to take our Pesos and said we had to pay with USD. Which was annoying, but ok fine. We were thirsty and wanted something to eat. At the restaurant we ate at, the man waiting on us acted extremely friendly. He said he would treat us to free Margaritas and we proceeded to order our food. When it came time to pay the bill he overcharged for EVERYTHING. He kept the bill in his hand and until he got our credit card and then ran it. He added a 20% tip to our credit card without asked. When my dad asked to see the bill he brought back a piece of paper with $60 circled on it. THEN asked that we leave a cash tip. As if we wouldn't notice we were hideously overcharged. Our lunch, which according to the menu should have cost about $25 including tip ended up being $60. Our overall experience was a horrible rip off and I would not suggest this market at all. Save your money and get your souvenirs elsewhere. read more

Very good place to shop for souvenirs and other goodies. They literally have everything and anything you can possibly dream off. I am giving it 4 stars because I hate getting haggled by the vendors. They literally talk and chase you down, which could be very overwhelming, if you aren't used to it. Overall, this market is quite nifty with a lot of decently priced stuff. My favorite part is trying tequila at every store for free! read more

Mercado 28 is definitely the biggest "local" market in Cancun. It is located not too far into the city area from the Hotel Zone. The R2 bus takes you directly to it. The whole area is extremely touristy. There vendors and restaurants are extremely agressive. You just can't walk in peace there. The food and prices for goods are also a little hiked up. I didn't enjoy it at all. The items there are more geared towards tourists. I was looking for a Mexican candy store aka Dulceria, and there wasn't one in the market. I ended up finding one at Mercado 23, which is more local and authentic. I recommend skipping this tourist trap and taking the R1 bus to Mercado 23. read more
Deals deals deals and more deals. Just don't make eye contact with anybody. Everything is negotiable and they're only gonna go Shieh just keep looking you'll find the same things probably another vendor and if they don't make a deal you'll find it somewhere else. Dress down and bring small bills. There's definitely some cool stuff to be found here but be a savvy shopper and you'll do well read more

There are tons of little shops and stores here. If you are looking for souvenirs then I would pay $1 to take the R-2 bus here. There are lots of stands selling shirts, shot glasses, jewelry, and miscellaneous art pieces. One thing to remember is that you can most certainly barter on the final cost of the item. DO NOT PAY WHAT IS LISTED ON THE TAG. In most cases, they can get the price down by about 60%. The biggest thing that turned me off were all the shop owners trying to force us into their stores. "Come look at my shop", "you gave him a minute, now give me a minute", and "hey, lady". If you can get past being heckled at each shop then I would say this is the place for gifts. read more

I loved it! My husband and I went on a Tuesday afternoon in April so it was pretty dead. I'm kind of a brat about prices so as long as you literally ignore every single thing every single person says to you as you walk by and only pay what you think things are worth, you'll be fine. I bought a dress for myself and one for my daughter; a tshirt for my son; a 5-pack of (probably stale) cigars; a little woven tortilla basket. I think we paid $40 or $50 USD altogether. I love the souvenirs and I love the haggling. Just remember: EVERYONE in Market 28 has the same stuff so if they don't give you the price you want, move on and find it somewhere else in Market 28. read more

AVOID THE MARKET 28 MALL AT ALL COSTS! If you are looking for drugs, want to be ripped off and really like super aggressive pushy over-the-top nasty salespeople, then this is the place for you. If you are looking for a casual day of browsing souvenirs, then RUN, do not walk away from this place, RUN VERY VERY FAST! There is nothing here that you cannot get at your hotel, or one of the shops in the hotel zone. Essentially it's all crap! While walking through DO NOT ask about anything, or pick something up to look at it, if you do you will be incessantly hounded to make a purchase. Pass on the jewelry, these salespeople are the worst! They *will* rip you off if given the chance! I speak only from personal experience about the Market 28. I was in Cancun for Christmas 2020. My husband and I made the trek to this hell hole and knew as soon as we exited our taxi that we were in trouble. In the end after I bought something with my credit card I discovered upon arriving home that I had over $1,000 in fraudulent charges. These folks especially like to prey upon American's because they're under the mistaken impression that everyone in The United States is rich. In the end I regret ever having set foot in this flea market. Tom Feddor, Chicago IL read more

Keep it local like it was 25 yrs ago and Fermers not Crafters. Do that separately Bring in more Salt Lake and Utah farmers and Food produce. It hurts local farmers and growers to bring non local and crafts. Also bring in drought education. Got this from your farmer vendors. read more

Supposed to be a local market but seemed more like a tourist trap. Highly disappointed and only spent thirty minutes just walking around. Skip this place unless you're coming here deliberately to buy souvenirs. read more
