There are security cameras at the gate and the Lodge... and yes even at the pool so apparently no one is watching them. There is a teen center/grill which we were excited about but it never did open the whole time we were there. The miniature golf course is not very usable due to disrepair and neglect. As you might expect, the prices at the store inside the Lodge is $$$. The Lodge itself is nice but it has gambling machines (a lot). Due to the lack of supervision this could be less than ideal for kids if given money by the parents. It's not like they check your ID to play. The people that work here are mostly crabby, except the spotting guys. It does have a laundry area that's about as basic as you can get. Some machines out of order. There are lots and lots of golf carts which makes it very loud and dusty. Apparently there is no speed rule enforced because people go way faster than the 10 mph posted including the head guy. Fire pits are mostly adequate and it seemed that most spots had picnic tables. Not very nice ones, but they did have them. There's also an "Adult center" with a pool table, dart machine and I think a jukebox. Nobody in there and kind a dirty. M/W bathrooms as well. Hope this helps fellow campers!

Our family has been making an annual pilgrimage here each summer to float the Meremac for over 20…read moreyears. We've seen wonderful changes with the current owners. This is a family campground, clean, well maintained and beautifully situated on the river. However, it is on a river and with that comes rocks, mud, potential flooding, wildlife, insects, and some hardy partiers. There will be spiders in your cabin, the carpet is not clean, the furniture is old, lines are not plush, and pillows are flat. But toilets flush, water from the spigot will run clear after a few minutes and the mud usually dries up pretty quickly. This campground has quiet hours and isn't crazy full of drunks, like others in the area. But it is a take out spot for paddlers, so you will be entertained by floaters at the end of their day of drinking. Typically a nice rocky beach exists and you can hang at the river. Now if it's been raining a lot the beach may be gone. This is rare. Indian Springs is an ideal place to stay to float. At your appointed time you and all your coolers get to go on a crazy ride on an old school bus where you'll be given your raft, canoe or kayak for the day. Then you simply paddle down a cool, clear, fairly shallow river until you return to your campground for a hot shower. Even hot meals are served on the weekends (breakfast and suppers). Let's talk about the term "resort." It is used very loosely in this part of MO. The five stars is not for fancy luxury. It's for practicality. In your cabin, You can expect electricity, clean linens, dorm sized fridge, running water, air conditioning, beds and a few chairs and a table on a sort of screened porch. Fire circles, trash cans and some playground equipment are available outside. Pack the kids' bikes, a pet if you're willing to pay the pet fee/fine and your own beer. While ice is available, no cold beer is sold at the store. Horseshoe pits and shoes are available for free. Our family finds this campground awesome for our needs. We have a large group (60-70 people of all ages--this year we ranged from 4 to 80 years old. We rent cabins all close to each other, some choose the extra tiny motel rooms, while some families camp (not recommended for tent camping as too prone to flooding/standing water). We make large group meals--imagine packing crockpots, roasters, fish fryers, etc. There is a small swimming pool--but I believe the owners have had it with replacing the liner so it is going to be turned into a lillypad pond. We will miss it. But we've already put down our deposit for next year!

Huzzah is far enough from the city to feel like an escape into the wilderness, but close enough…read morethat it doesn't feel like you've spent all day driving to get there. I successfully made reservations over the phone...online reservations have been an issue in the past. We arrived after 4 p.m. and checked into a busy store where everyone was working diligently. I will say, it's expensive to camp here. They charge per person, not per tent or site. We stayed at a primitive campsite that was nicely shaded. Each site has a picnic table and a fire pit, both well used. River access from the primitive sites is close and refreshing on a hot day. In the evening, it's lovely to sit by the river, stargaze, and watch the lightning bugs in the trees. If you're lucky, the people around you will turn off their music by midnight so you can enjoy a little peace. There's access to a porta potty near the campsite that's about as decent as you can expect. You can walk or drive to a shower house, but keep in mind you'll need quarters to shower, and the change machine isn't always working. The flushable toilets are hit or mis. Some are clean and stocked with toilet paper, others are...not. Floating is easy to book, and the rafts, canoes, and kayaks are well maintained. The Huzzah is a fast-moving creek when the water's high, and more of a slow drag when it's low. I'd recommend the 6-mile float for a nice full-day experience. Don't forget sunblock, hats, and sun shirts. Also, bring plenty of water and snacks. When you're done with your float, a bus will take you back to the main campground. I've been to Huzzah many times for a quick getaway. The experience is enjoyable, and the front desk staff is great, but it is pricey, and the facilities could definitely use better upkeep.

The first night people were up until 3am yelling, literally howling and swimming. We complained and were told they would be on top of it the next night, it ended up being even worse. No oversight.. There was one shower house/bathroom with 5 stalls on the family side and a few porta potty's. The bathrooms were not cleaned regularly and were really gross. Kids were locking them and shutting the doors so that there was only one stall available. We told the front office that the lights were off in 4 stalls and doors were locked and they came and unlocked them.. only to have kids do it again. Felt like something they should have stayed on top of.

The outside is constructed of native stone and has been kept intact. The owners added a fountain centerpiece that complements the rest of the stone structure. Near the road, a replica of the original neon sign stands as a beacon for the Route 66 traveler. The lobby is also impressive. The front desk incorporates some of the motifs that are found in the original stonework outside. Approaching the Neon Room, the first thing I noticed was the glow-in-the-dark neon paint labeled number 1. The inside reminded me of a room you'd find at a boutique hotel. The centerpiece is Reddy Kilowatt, an American cartoon character. He lights up and yes, it's real neon. On the ceiling above the king bed is a neon rocket. There's a partial glass block divider has multi-colored lighting around it that completes the room's overall glow. In addition, the vanity mirror has adjustable lighting. I preferred the soft, golden yellow light. Next to the bed is a mirrored nightstand with jewel-like sparkles. The lamp and coaster match the nightstand perfectly. I found the sound muffler/masking machine useful. I chose the waterfall setting to help me fall asleep. The bed and pillows are extremely comfortable. The blue velvet curtains help darken the room so you can see the neon lighting better even during the daylight hours. There's plenty of closet space. The bathroom shower is completely tiled. There is no bathtub. Visitors should also be aware there is no microwave in the neon room. It does have a small refrigerator as well as a Keurig coffee maker with flavored and regular coffee. There are hundreds of other details I've left out about the motel. My review doesn't do it justice. It's one of those places you have to experience for yourself. I highly recommend staying there.

It would have been nice to be able to talk to someone because this is kind of a remote area, no cell service and the wifi didn't work, so how could we know what's available around here? There were ants everywhere in the room, though I'm sure that's not normal for this place. The yard was nice (though showing some neglect), but we weren't sure where it was ok to sit and relax because -- again -- the management wasn't available. The ice machine was broken. They gave us brisket and Mac -n- cheese( which they just won an award for) I live on the East Coast and we are not known for good BBQ but being a foodie I do know good food and this place was slammin! The brisket was the best I've ever had and so was the Mac-n-cheese made with some ritz crackers on top. The manager was very friendly and welcoming. They showed us the smokers up close which was very cool. They have 4 different sauces to try all made in house and all delicious. Liked it so much we are going back for dinner. PI PIZZA- Being from the East Coast, New Haven, home of world famous Sally's and Pepe's Pizza I have high standards for pizza. This pizza was not what I'm used to but enjoyed trying it anyway. They served a small pizza for the 3 of us which is extremely generous on a food tour! SHAWARMA KING- kind of a dive place for college kids, kind of while in the wall place. If you take this tour at 11 am like we did I suggest you do not eat breakfast! I would definitely recommend this tour if you are visiting St Louis both for the food and to learn the history. We learned a little more about the area, the restaurants and of course the food. The food was great and abundant. Make sure you come hungry because you will eat a lot.
