This is my local Ace Hardware and they are all the rage, imho! Whenever, I drop in, I'm greeted at the door by a team a friendly employees who want to help me find what I want and need and sometimes that's not easy to do. I LOVE hardware stores so what I want isn't always what I need and vice versa! These folks are patient and always willing to share a good laugh or story about whatever adventure I'm having with tools, paint, cleaners, sponges, or gadgets! I love this store so much that I gave up going to the big old Menards, Lowes, and even good old WalMart! This store is in my neighborhood so it suits me just fine to support a local business -- especially when they work hard to be friendly, helpful, polite, and responsive to whatever suggestions or requests I make. It's nice to go where people seem to care whether you spend our money or not! It's nice to go where people seem to enjoy coming to work -- even the young people seem happy whenever I'm in the store. The best part of all is nobody has ever harassed me about my little service dog! He's always on the job and nobody ever gives him or me a hard time. I appreciate that so much that I can hardly even express my gratitude! This store truly lives up to that old song that used to come on TV, "Ace is the place with the helpful Hardware folks!" While they may not have the selection of items--especially larger ones--that a Home Depot or Lowe's boasts, those big box stores can never compete with your local Ace store in terms of customer service. As soon as you walk in, there is a person happy to direct you to the exact aisle containing the items you desire. No roaming the aisles to find a surly employee here! We stopped here for some Yeti accoutrement and were successful in that regard as well, even purchasing another water bottle that we definitely don't need in the process! So why only four stars? There's really no way to social distance in this closet of a store and the workers at the front aren't even six inches apart, much less six feet. I'd probably wait until after vaccinations are more plentiful before venturing in here again. read more

Although the woman at checkout and the new manager were lovely, friendly, helpful and very apologetic, the men who work at the neighborhood ACE where I have been shopping for almost 40 years have forgotten what customer service means. Before the changeover, when a customer walked in the door, not only were they greeted, they were actually escorted to the isles where they needed something. Now, it seems, the employees let their fingers do the walking!! 3 salesmen were standing having a conversation in the same place, they pointed as they were deep in conversation the entire time I was the only customer in the store. I helped myself and purchased the items I needed (and found myself)!! BTW, a few miles up the street, the Glendale ACE Hardware still helps their customers and goes out of their way to do so. This is not the first time I was treated this way at Mequon Ace Hardware. Mequon residents are used to so much better!! read more

Gone are the days when you walked in and someone immediately asked, "Can I help you find something?" There were two clerks in the paint section, but only one was busy helping a customer. I was halfway toward the back of the store when I found, BY MYSELF, what I was looking for. Also, no holiday calendars! Unbelievable!! I understand that COVID put the kabosh on the popcorn machine, but the service ethic, calendars, and popcorn are what kept me coming back. Believe it or not, it's the little things that count. I don't want to go to Home Depot, but going into my little Ace Hardware store, remembering what it used to be, is incredibly depressing. read more

Something flew off a truck and shattered my sunroof. I had no idea what to do but knew I needed it to be covered to protect it from rain. For only $20.00 a worker cut the Plexiglas and taped it down for me. He removed as much broken glass as he could. All while I waited inside. It was really cold out and we were expecting freezing rain later that day. I am so grateful for his help!! read more

An excellent shopping experience, hard to find this level of genuine customer service these days. The great sales brought us in, we found several unexpected great deals on high quality items (Yeti, Big Green Egg, and bought an extra Pack-it lunchbox for the kiddos). They were super helpful but left us browse and didn't bug us whenever we said we're ok. They helped us stack our bags of birdseed by the checkout, gushed over our cute baby, and two employees helped us carry our purchases to the car. Oh, and free warm freshly popped caramel popcorn. This is my favorite hardware store, period! I will go out of my way to stop at this place (luckily it is on my daily commute to and from work). This location always has friendly staff that is very attentive and nice. You can bring any item in there or ask them complex questions and they will provide you with information and recommend other items and explain why other items might not work the best. They do key cutting, screen repairs, carry grilling parts, carry car washing parts, have an extensive hardware selection, sell tools, have a large paint section, have a home and bath section, and much more. The layout of the store is very clean and easy to navigate. If you buy bags of salt you simply just pull around back and they load up the bags in your trunk for you. Highly recommend this place over going to a big-box store and get that personalized service. read more

I buy everything I can here because they have the best service (and the coupons don't hurt!). When I bought my first home down the road I had no idea I would need to be making multiple hardware store trips each weekend, but Ace always had what I needed and the employees helped me get what I needed, even when I wasn't sure what that was. Since then I've bought everything big and small, from an amazing Weber grill which they assembled and delivered, to nuts and bolts and super specific parts requested by my plumber. They also fill up propane tanks by weight so you don't need to run out to get a refill. Instead of struggling to find an employee like you do at some large home improvement stores, you'll no doubt be greeted by four or more people, whose are eager to help you. read more

I love this store. It's small, but it packs in a ton of merchandise! The prices are fair and there are always a lot of people to help you. They've even gone out of their way to match a long-retired Ace 7* Paint color for me. (Toasted Marshmallow) It's easy to get to and the parking is right upfront. I was not a huge fan of the store when we first moved here in '99 and used to drive to Ozaukee Ace or Home Depot in Grafton instead which was a hassle. In the past few years, the store has improved tremendously and it keeps getting better and better. We had a party last weekend and I ran to Ace at the last second to buy Sterno, a Cooler and a replacement Patio Umbrella and the staff got me in and out in a jiffy. I am a fan for life. read more

Come on.... a few months ago I needed gold spray paint. Called to verify they had it stocked. They did. Without asking or talking to staff, I was just standing in the aisle comparing the 2 metallic gold options, trying to decide if one of them would actually look metallic.... and the person who answered my call approached me and handed me a sample of each color. I am a DIY as much as possible and frequent Home Depot & Menard's on a regular basis. Though, you get what you pay for and if you have any question more than "what aisle is such & such in?" you are pretty much out of luck. I stopped in on Sunday with some questions/needing help which is why I bypassed HD & M and went straight to Mequon Ace. Even though there was a steady stream of traffic/customers, Dan was over the top helpful and patient in helping me out and answering my questions. Not once had to "go help someone else or just point in the general direction of what I was looking for/needing." THANK YOU!!! What's worse than waiting around for an associate to help out or searching high & low for anyone to help ie HD & M? Not at Mequon Ace...The place was humming with customers and it seemed as I turned around and looked over and over that everyone had a sales associate helping them find what they needed and/or recommending what was needed. Not only did they understand exactly what we were were trying to accomplish, but they helped me design it and pulled each part for us. At this location, I have encountered a few gentlemen that provide helpful directions and really know their stuff. Today at 4pm, I had a bad experience in the Ace parking lot when a young male Ace employee drove a truck into the parking lot way too fast and headed for me. Employees should treat customers with respect even if they aren't in the store yet and drive with extra caution in the Ace parking lot so as not to endanger their valued customers, especially on a day like today when there was a lot of foot and car traffic. This young man was obviously late for work and his actions gave the Ace store a bad impression. Also, entrance to the parking lot is not convenient. The entrance to go In is very close to the intersection and when cars are lined up in the other direction, you back up traffic by waiting for your turn. If you enter in the second drive way it is a one way going Out. Other locations are much more convenient. read more
