I have used this moving company twice in 9 years. They arrived on time. They were ready to start once I received that knock on my door. They wanted to do a walk-through with me to explain what was going. They wrapped all items that needed to be wrapped for extra protection. They all definitely showed that they were in my home to do a job. Although we had some laughter here there. They delivered my items to my new address safe and sound. Back in DEC 2021, Mentors/Smoothmove delivered my new sofa set to my home and the movers carelessly bumped the corner leg of the sofa and hit the surface corner of my new concrete dining table. The new dining table is now ruined since the damage is completely visible. The only thing I heard in that second besides the metal hitting concrete was "oops" coming from that mover. After proper recording of the damage on the BOL/Delivery form, you would think the company would compensate appropriately. Long story short, the company apologized, but made me go through their insurance provider for the claim which I found out was denied because they chose to argue it was MY FAULT!!! The movers that they use are suspect. The customer service is very poor, and if there are any issues that arise, good luck having them trying to resolve it. Over priced and broke a lot of furnitures. I've worked with them in 2019 and found out they were pretty over priced for a bad job the did. I found out my friend also used them and they broke her bed frame, desk and even made a dent in their wall. Taking forever to get reimbursed because they keep on ignoring or not replying to their claims department. It's been over a year and my friend hasn't heard back from them. Keith was great with communication and working with us to get to a reasonable price. the crew showed up on time, were very professional and friendly, put rubber mats on floor so it wouldnt get damaged in move, wrapped all furniture in moving pads and then shrink wrap. they were quick and efficient. on the other end, they were again on time and started right in where they left off with the load up. had three of the original crew plus one new guy, again very professional and friendly. This 1 star rating of Mentors Moving & Storage is just and deserved. I booked the company three months in advance to move and store two couches and an organ in Feb. 2024. I then proceeded to schedule painters and wood floor renovators. Mentors' workers arrived at my home on the scheduled day but quickly informed me that they had no idea how to move an organ. They called their manager who proceeded to inform me that the guys were going to leave; they would not be able to assist me in any way. I asked them to at least take the couches, but they refused. You can imagine the situation. Worker coming in one day to remove the carpet, then painters, . . . But all work was contingent on the house being empty. Mentors has failed to return promised calls or in any way acknowledged the company's failure to deliver on promised services. i strongly advise against using this company. Mentors Moving company quoted me $16,000 to pack take to storage, and a dump run. I explained the job must be completed within three days! Because I would be turning over possession of the home. They assured me that was no problem. They said it would be $8,000 up front then $8,000 upon completion. I paid $8,000 down. The next day three men showed up at 8:30 am they moved two couches one chair two tables a vanity, and part of a bedroom set. By 11:56am they were done. From 12:00pm to 2:30 the walked around flirting with my 14 year old daughter. When my terminally ill mother asked to help remove the items in the Chester drawers. The stated they weren't packing today . Only the dump run. So her belongings in her Chester drawers were also taking to the dump. At 2:30pm they said they were going to the dump, and left. They returned at 4:27 pm stood around till 5:00 pm and left. The next day I was asked for more money if I wanted them to return. I explained how my mother medical marijuana had been taken a long with my bran new pressure washer, pool vacuum, and 5 five gallon buckets of chemicals. I requested the employee's be drug tested. To which the manager stated that he would not. He also stated that if I didn't pay more money they wouldn't be returning. So I not only lost that $8,000 I paid them . I had to hire another company to finish what they were paid to do. But I also lost the 10,000 that was in escrow, and half my belongings for not vacating the property by said date. read more

I was recommended this place by one of my trainees. Initially I thought hey great they'll pick up my stuff in Hanford drive it to Bakersfield and then store it for me and when I discuss this with them I was told when you do move to your house, because at the time I was living in a two bedroom apartment and I had moved from a four bedroom house and the apartment was temporary housing, I said this will be great because when I purchase a house in Bakersfield then I'll be able to move my stuff over. Well it took two years for me to find a place. In the meantime I was paying $300 a month for storage, then I needed something from the storage and was told that it would cost me $75 to get anything out of storage and I have to give them advance notice. This was never mentioned in any of our discussions regarding the services that they provide. Then after paying all that money thinking about it $300 a month for two years that's basically over $7000. Then once it is finally settled in my new place and ready to move the furniture out of there into the new place I was told for their guys to move me out of their storage and put it now in my new house would cost $1800 plus the cost of the the movers $200 an hour per person, ridiculous! And I found my own movers and was told it'll cost $75 To pick up your stuff out of our storage. I said OK and I asked for a 6 AM move time, at that point I was told well if they have to come in at 6 AM then will have to charge you overtime and that'll be an extra $180 over and above the $75 tell him I said well don't you open up at 8 AM and don't they have to come in early anyway to get it ready for whoever is going to be there at 8 o'clock yes but you want an earlier time so you have to pay the overtime. What!!! If you have money to burn sure use these people don't use it like a regular storage because every time they open the door to give you stuff that you own that you've already paid for them to put in storage, they will charge you $75.00 dollars. And when you call them out for being thirsty Shysters they'll say, "We're not Thirsty we are a business":( My movers called me and said they would have to change the date to tomorrow, I called them to make the change. They said then they were going to charge me another $75 for changing the day and $75 for tomorrow. I said then I will pick up some things today and the movers can pick up the rest tomorrow, they said no initially because of the short notice, after some belligerent discussion with multiple interruptions and during which I was called "manipulative".....professional right...they agreed to let me pick up some things......Wow! I recently moved from Bakersfield, CA to Mesa, AZ using Smooth Move. My wife and I were being relocated for work but as the way things go these days, were responsible to pay out of our own pocket for the moving expense. Regardless, I know I wanted full service so I called Smooth Move, Allied, and North American for quotes. They all came to my house to prepare an estimate but Smooth Move was the most professional, most personable, and didn't tell me things they wouldn't do rather they told me what they WOULD do for us. Their rate was a couple thousand dollars cheaper than the other two as well! Packing the house was supposed to take two days- Only took one with the help of Louis, Oscar, Mike and Pete- These guys were awesome, friendly, and careful- Not one thing broken! We scheduled delivery for a week later and they showed up on time and were finished within hours of unloading things into a 4000sf home. Louis, Mikey, Anthony, and Naomi were the best! Everybody was so nice and our experience using Smooth Move was seamless and left us with confidence the entire time. I wouldn't have done it any other way! read more

I ordered a new bed Finally Lol...anyway i ordered from Saatva and my purchase included free white glove delivery...The delivery company was Excel. They sent an email with a number to call to "schedule" a delivery date and time but when i called it was actually told to me what the Excel itself scheduled for me..i thought well i'm just so freakin excited about a new bed finally i'm not gonna bitch about it and just make it happen Lol...so today it was and yes they showed up between the 11:30-3:30 window of time. They were nice however i could tell one of them the taller one must of been new and this was the first account they have gotten to actually deliver and build a bed. They did just fine i watched eagerly of course and everything went smooth. Courteous and quick. I will most likely order my son a bed from Saatva when he needs one and be happy to have Excel deliver and build that as well. read more

I had a great experience with Smooth Move, and definitely plan on using them again. My job was a small one: move from a 1250 square foot apartment to a 1050 townhome. It was done in 3 hours, which was the minimum estimated time. I give extra props to Dan and his team member, who took on the stairmaster challenge of a 3-story townhome with a great attitude. They also made sure that there was minimal damage to the furniture and larger items - just the inevitable nick here and there. My only hesitation from jumping on the 5 star bandwagon here is that a customer might get the impression that they 'roll out the red carpet' based on the pictures featured on this page. And while I didn't necessarily need a RED carpet, it would have been nice if they had laid down some flooring protection or at least covered their shoes when coming in and out. In anticipation of moving furniture into places that likely would stay put for a long time, I had cleaned my hardwood floors just prior to this move (which was maybe a fool's errand). So the shoeprints and tracked-in dirt left me with a little more rework than expected. But overall this was a great experience, and saved me a ton of effort (and back pain!). My wife and I hired these guys to help us move, and we had a great experience with them. We had a lot of concerns going in: moving a 2-br and 1-br apartments (separate locations) into a 5-br house, because of our work schedules (and budget) time was a factor, and after reading a ton of nightmare reviews of several moving companies, it looked like finding somebody reliable was a shot in the dark at best. The first thing I noticed about Chuck, Tom, and Jesse was that they were super friendly and professional, the opposite of sketchy, and were there to WORK. They were concerned about making sure they were careful with our stuff, put down mats to protect the original wood floors in our 100-year old house, and were also very mindful of time- which was extremely respectful considering we were paying by the hour. Speaking of, we had priced multiple in-town and LA based companies and Smooth's quote was the most reasonable. My wife even got super direct with them (sorry Kevin!) and gave them the 3rd degree to uncover any hidden costs, but we were assured there would be none, just the hourly rate. NO ONE else does that, totally bad ass! This move was something that my wife and I were equal parts excited (for the house) and completely dreadful (packing/the move/unpacking), and Chuck, Tom, and Jesse were a Godsend and we are so grateful we chose them to have moved us. We called a couple places and got a few different quotes and because of the professional manner and the price we chose Smooth Move and we are so glad we did! Received response from owner after leaving my first review. He mentioned i had no reason to leave a negative review on this business listing as according to him there was absolutely no business done with the company on my end. Yet he knew exactly what i was talking about. He even went as far as to say that i wasn't going to be receiving my item over a month later due to me "cancelling" my order directly with ikea and according to him i was "refunded my cash" which i did/was not. If youve ever tried to get ahold with IKEA's delivery customer service line you would know that they have an automated response that hangs up on you due to there being a high amount of callers so for a month i was not able to speak with the proper department to fix the issue or even cancel my order directly from the store. I live far and was not able to go to the store in person and fix the issue either and was forced to wait. When i was messaged by the owner of this company it was more out of being burdened by my negative review than to try to help me fix my problem. As an update though i was contacted by ikea who was trying to resend my item which i guess they noticed i NEVER ACTUALLY RECEIVED. I told them i rather drive to pick up my purchase in person than to have incompetent people deal with my things and make me go thru the headache of not ever receiving my things and such rudeness. read more

We used Mentor Movers for our move from the Central Valley of CA to North Bay CA and we're very satisfied. I received quotes for PODS, and another moving company and Mentors actually came to the house to do a walk through and give an estimate so they knew exactly what they were taking. They were also more reasonable than the alternatives. Keith did the walk through and called me back in a timely manner when I had a few questions. Alex was our driver and the lead and he did a really awesome job. He was very accommodating, punctual, professional, and courteous. The other movers that packed up the house were Alex, Drew, and Richard. They were also all very polite and courteous as well. The Santa Rosa office helped out on the unloading and were very efficient, helped us rearrange the furniture until we had it where we wanted it, and were great to work with. I did not catch all of their names except for Jake and possibly Jose but I can't recall. There were a couple of minor damaged items but Alex handled it very professionally. Tomas and Bradon are AWESOME! Back in June 2020, these guys wrapped up our furniture really well and packed our U Haul like a Tetris puzzle, maximizing the space while still be careful of our belongings! It was amazing how they fit everything in just perfectly! Without their skills, there is no way we would have been able to fit everything in. They managed to get an awkward desk out a back window and carry it all the way around the yard. They were also incredibly efficient, and having efficient movers saves money! Tomas and Bradon were very friendly and pleasant to work with. We have since had 3 different movers in our new town (unloading the same uHaul, then a rearrangement of furniture and lastly another move) and none of them were as careful, efficient and friendly as these two guys! It took a crew of 3 men twice the amount of time to pack the exact same furniture up and there was damage to both the house and our furniture. This company moved us from one town, in Kern County to another town, in the same county. They have two different names, "Smooth Move" and "Mentors" so keep that in mind when you look at their BBB rating, which is very good. They arrived on time, were fast, had a nice truck, and were careful about not breaking stuff (I think my husband broke my mother's heirloom antique dressers, but it wasn't them that did it.) They charged exactly what was quoted and were very careful about not going over the amount when there was a heatwave. I highly recommend them. read more
