Mensagem is a stunning rooftop restaurant in the heart of Lisbon that delivers unforgettable views and warm hospitality, though the kitchen has some room to grow.
Perched on the 5th floor of the Lisboa Pessoa Hotel, the setting here is genuinely hard to beat. From the indoor seating you can take in sweeping views of Rossio Square and Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara, and if you step out to the terrace, the panorama of the city is completely unobstructed. The atmosphere alone makes this place worth a visit.
The drink menu is enjoyable but comes at a price. The Mojito was well made and flavorful at €12, though most cocktails on the menu sit closer to €15, which feels like a stretch even for a rooftop setting.
Food was a mixed experience. The homemade bread, butter and olive tapenade were a lovely way to start, and the pumpkin ravioli had great texture and presentation, though the filling itself lacked seasoning, which was a recurring issue with the pumpkin soup as well. Both dishes needed a bit more depth to really deliver on their promise. The pica-pau unfortunately came out tough and overcooked, but to their credit the staff removed it from the bill without any hesitation. The soufflé with ice cream was a genuinely delicious finish and well worth saving room for.
Service throughout was attentive, warm and professional. The team checked in regularly and handled every concern graciously. Mensagem is a beautiful spot with real potential that just needs a little more care and consistency coming out of the kitchen. read more
