They close at 6pm, which is a bit early, but other than that, stop by for the architecture, a book or two, and maybe when their cafe is open.

I wish this library was better than it is but it suffers from a few big issues. The main one is…read morethat it is very difficult to focus when inside due to there being no enforcement of volume levels. This seems to be a common trend as people are afraid of being labeled as "Karens" or be seen as rude, but libraries are meant to be quiet. What I am referring to is not muffled chatter or sneezes, it is full on obnoxiously loud conversations and children screaming. Part of this is difficult to fix due to the establishment being relatively cramped, with the children section barely seperated by a thin wall from the sections for reading, but primarily is due to the employees not making any effort to remedy this. I understand that libraries are communal areas and children are part of that community and should be provided experiences to learn and grow. I think it is very important that the library allows them to do this, but when they get obnoxiously loud, and begin to run around, I think the librarians are obligated to correct this. I understand this may be awkward, as that should be the job of the parents, but when they let their children treat the library like a playground, I think it is the job of the librarian to enforce the rules. Though I live much nearer to this library, I have made a habit of driving to Pewaukee's instead. For some reason, the library-goers there seem to be much more polite. Also the hours at this library suck. Sorry to be a negative Nancy, but I'd really like to see this place improve.

I like how they have everything connected online, with requests for physical materials, text notifications, and ebooks. Staff has been excellent, and the social distancing has been good too, though not all patrons seem to be on board. But what's better for staying safe than reading a book? Or grabbing a movie? I've been a regular library user and usually have positive experiences, but I was very disappointed…read morewith how I was treated regarding a STEM kit. When I borrowed the kit, all the parts were there. One set of attached blocks included a slightly off-color red piece, but the kit worked fine and I assumed that's just how it came. I supervised my children while they played and returned everything intact. Later, the library called accusing me of replacing one of the blocks with my own and told me I had to pay $34.99 for a "missing" piece. This was upsetting, since I take good care of everything I borrow and even notify the library if I ever notice something is missing. Instead of being heard, I was made to feel like I was stealing. This experience makes me worry about checking out kits or specialty items in the future. I hope the library improves how it documents the condition of items before lending them, so patrons aren't unfairly charged for problems they didn't cause.

The Germantown Community Library is going strong and growing. When I moved to Germantown, the…read morelibrary was jammed into a small building with hardly enough room in the stacks to turn around. With a cooperative effort, a new library building was constructed. Plans called for a main floor and a mezzanine, but funding was short so the mezzanine was never built. The result is a comfortable, wide open space. The inventory is increasing and the stacks are filling. The library offers books and periodicals (of course) as well as audio books, music, movies and a reference section. There is a large children's library with a dedicated children's librarian. There is WiFi and there are workstations in case you didn't bring your own computer. There are display cases with rotating items of local interest and plenty of room to display works of local, youthful artisans. There are available study rooms, meeting rooms and a large community room. As a member of the federated library system and SHARE, any publication can be brought in from (almost) any library in the state system. The librarians and circulation staff are friendly and pleased to help out, just ask. By the way, the framing is there for the mezzanine, perhaps you might help them build it someday? Germantown residents are fortunate to have such a wonderful community resource in a charming, attractive library.

But obviously not all public libraries are the same. I've been meaning to visit this library since I moved to Milwauke, but I never made it happen. So, I was delighted that the Tosa Library was very close to my last errand of the day which happened to be in Wauwatosa. Such a lovely, sunlit space with creative and quirky art that refected this community. I roamed the teen, children's, and adult sections and was delighted to encounter helpful staff in each section. Personally, I'm used to larger libraries, but this one has a nice collection, staff is friendly,…read moreand the place is quite convenient. Most of the time, I can park right in front of the door. If there's something I want that they don't have, chances are that their interlibrary loan can send it within a few days. The CD, DVD, video game and "thing" collection is great. We've utilized the zoo pass. I brought my toddler to story time reading, but the reader shouted for various characters' parts and it scared her. Maybe we'll try again another season. While they have a fair amount of meetings and activities, I wish they had more. I've been a bit spoiled enjoying some of Franklin Public Library creative programming.

My first impression was how brightly, airy, and open it is! So much light pours in, as compared to the old location which was quite dark and confined. Having two kids, libraries are always a go-to and this one now tops the list. They have an entire kids section wrapped with rows and rows of books, a little play-stage and dress up clothes, magnetic tiles, a play kitchen, and a few small computers with educational games. There's also a whole enclosed youth room which I assume will host various events and activities-- I'll have to look into that. Oh and you can check-out Tonies here too, which is wonderful. I love how overall inviting the space is. My kids really enjoyed our first visit! Oh and there is more than enough space and books for adults too. It's a very good size library will plenty of seating, and friendly staff. Great addition to the area!

Great library in terms of layout, book selection and resources. Kept at a comfortable temperature…read morethroughout the year, and hosts a number of community activities for the surrounding area. Despite these positives, however, they seem to have a bit of an issue keeping the volume down. Since it is a library, I expect it to be a relativelty quiet environment which is conducive to reading. Though it is usually the case that it is quiet, the exceptions are very noticable. Obviously, when kids are present, they are going to make noise, this is to be expected. What the real issue is, is that there are areas that are designated as "quiet zones," but there is really no enforcement of this. People converse and children shout, I don't like to be the guy to shush them, because no matter how politely you do it, you always feel like a jerk. What would make this much easier is if the employees did it, they have the authority to and it shouldn't be my job to keep it a quiet environment. That being said, it is still by far the best library in the area. Pauline Haas in Sussex, Menomonee Falls and Germantown libraries all suffer from noise much worse due to the structure. In addition, the staff have been very kind and helpful whenever I have had questions or requests. The chairs are very comfortable, the tables are kept clean, charging outlets are plentiful and conveniently placed and it has a very nice atmosphere. Overall an already great place that could improve if the volume rules were enforced.
