Thus we ordered the ham, sausage and cheese platter for 1, their mixed seafood paella, which we soon found out could only be bought in portions of at least 2 people, and a small fried fish on the side. The platter was delicious. It met the expected standards we had of the restaurant, given the lovely interior decor, with ham hanging inside the windows of the restaurant. The fish wasn't too bad. The paella on the other hand was unfortunately a disappointment. Though served nicely and with a generous portion (we ordered for 2 people but it was more than enough for the three of us), the paella was wayyyy too salty. We ended up only eating bits of the seafood inside the paella. What a pity! The colour was very off as well. It was advertised as the typical red tomato-base-looking colour, however, it was served rather brown in colour. We tried to look pass it, but unfortunately the first bite didn't erase our first impression. They also seemed quite understaffed to be honest, thus the lad serving us seemed to be having one of those off days where there was just too much demand. I guess the service took away our wanting to stay for a couple of hours. They do, however, serve generous portions. The platter for 1 was a good enough starter for 4 people I'd say! And very reasonably priced. We paid 45 euros in total.

I wouldn't recommend this place unless you're the kind of person who enjoys being politely robbed…read morewhile chewing. Really--it's less a restaurant than an economic experiment in how far you can stretch the concept of "a special" before it becomes legally actionable. The entire operation seems meticulously engineered to detonate your bill. They offer "specials" which are not only not special, but somehow more expensive than the regular menu--as if the chef added a garnish of economic despair. By the time dessert arrives (which you didn't order, but they bring it anyway "to share"), you're staring at a check that flirts with €100 per person. For food that should cost about €20, max. If you squint, it almost resembles cuisine. Otherwise, it's just nostalgia served warm. The food itself? Not bad, in the same way that rewatching a black-and-white TV show from the '50s isn't bad--if you like your flavors safe, beige, and inoffensively outdated. Imagine a culinary time machine, but the kind that takes you back to a party you didn't want to go to the first time. Atmosphere? Depressing, like a hotel lobby at midnight or a dentist's office that only plays Chopin. Anyway. I hope those corporate "salary dinners" pay off for them. Someone's got to foot the bill for all this emotional damage.

A great spot on the quieter side of Roses to enjoy a delicious and relaxed lunch by the beach away…read morefrom the noise and slight tackiness of the main town. This reasonably classy establishment has two large wooden decks shaded from the sun but open on all sides to let the breeze flow through on a hot summer afternoon. Clientele ranged from families straight off the beach in bathing suits and t-shirts to plastic barbie dolls dressed to the nines in their finest guccipradavuitton "beach" combos (I can't be sure, but I think some of them may have actually been slowly melting behind their enormous sunglasses in the afternoon heat). Waiters are dressed smartly in shorts and white polos bearing the Sunseeker logo (I'm not really sure what the connection is, but it adds a useless touch of class nonetheless). The menu is fairly standard higher-end Costa Brava beach fare, mainly seafood with some meat options for those who prefer them. Everything is cooked and flavoured extremely well and is served up with a big smile and a lot of care. Even the fried dishes (of which my favourite was the chiporones - whole fried tiny squid) were not over-battered or over-fired and retained the delicious natural flavour of the seafood. I could go on about what we tried, what the highlights were, etc. etc. but my advice would really be just to order whatever you fancy. It's all good, it's all fresh and with the addition of the pleasant setting I think it's hard to go wrong (though a pitcher of sangria or a nice cold glass of Rosé might help). One thing I would say is that they always have delicious looking whole fresh fish (sized for anywhere from 1 to 6 or so people) which they will grill to order. However, the fish are priced outrageously high. We were offered a sea bass for 3 for €186, without any side dishes or accompaniments which just seemed a bit silly. Those interested in the fish went for the mixed grill instead (a relative steal at around €35/head) and were served more delicious fish and seafood than some of them could finish. Most dishes, however, are priced far below that (my sepia a la plancha was around €12-14 I think, with most mains hitting the €10-25 mark).
