I am in town for a couple months from NV. Originally, I wasn't planning on training since I have a…read morerigorous academic schedule with both my military and civilian careers while being here. However, I changed my mind when some of the girls I worked with expressed interest in training. This was the closest place. I did call at first and didn't receive a call back like a previous review. However, knowing that most gym owners do everything at their gym like teaching, cleaning, scheduling, front desk, and even possibly working a full-time job in addition to running a gym, etc. I didn't take this personal... I looked at the time... saw it was class time and sent an email to the gym. I did receive an email back! Chris asked me if I ever trained. I told him yes but I'm probably going to only do no-gi because I didn't plan to train while I was here initially and didn't bring my stuff. He said told me it was no problem and he had a bunch of loaner gis that I was welcome to use. Chris is really down to earth and welcoming as well as all his students! The vibe is great at this gym. I've been training for over 9 years and I really appreciate when a gym welcomes guests as their own and has that family feel right when you come in! Come try them out if you are in town!

I was here short term for military training and education but had a great time training with the team here. Everyone was welcoming and encouraging. I had been out of training for over a year, and this was my first time coming back, since I had some free time while I was here. I was coached and welcomed as one of the team without a second thought. It is clear the culture they have here is intentional and supportive. I recommend anyone in the area train here.

Advanced techniques were taught in the first few courses, without basic moves being covered first. Normally I'd let it go, but the only other current review is five stars. That was the absolute opposite of my experience.

I've been looking for Krav Maga classes for about a year now and wasn't able to find very much in…read morethe Dayton area, recently I found out that training is being offered and unlike other facilities in Dayton they offer only Krav Maga, not a blended form. For those of you who are curious, Krav Maga is a form of self defense / martial arts that orginated in Isreal in response to real world situations, it's still used today by the Isreali Defense Forces, law enforcement agencies, and military forces around the world, as well as for practical self defense for everyone. This particular training is held at the Dayton Jewish Community Center (the class is open to anyone however), currently sessions are on wednesdays from 7-8pm, a second training night is being considered. The founder and instructor Tim Tharp is very friendly and knowledgable, he made me feel very welcome. I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I arrived but after the initial waivers were signed I was encouraged to jump right into the class and start learning (the first class is free by the way!). In just the one class I learned a few very practical techniques that I could use in real world situations, this is what drew me to Krav Maga in the first place. While there are many forms of martial arts to choose from, I wanted one that was more than just earning belts and strict technique, Dayton Krav Maga has satisfied that requirement very well. Don't hesitate to check them out, the training is for young, old, male, female, anyone could benefit!
