We were wanting a good shave ice and It was worth the drive to Gladstone for a frozen treat! The flavor combos are endless, and the ice is light and fluffy! I got melona and guava. Hubby got watermelon and tigers blood with a snow cap (sweetened condensed milk) and li hing mui powder sprinkled on top that made for a really tasty extra flavor in every bite! Great friendly service and really quick too! They have some benches along the sidewalk in front of their cute little store so you can enjoy your treat right there. I grew up in Kailua Kona and I had one particular spot that I went to to get shave ice. This shave ice shop in Gladstone brings back allllll the nostalgia for those times. This shop is owned and operated by a couple who spends half their time in Oregon and half their time in Hawaii - they're truly living the life, and are the nicest people. That does mean the shop is only open for part of the year. It's a walk up window off the main street of Gladstone. The menu offers a lot of flavors. The sizes are really generous - a small was a lot for just one person, so I actually recommend the mini size. It's still plenty. They are busiest on hot days, of course, so be prepared for a line if it's sunny out. Go on a cloudy day for no wait. Either way it doesn't take long and it's well worth it! read more

So happy they're open for this hot spring weather! Great price for SHAVED ICE. Not a snow cone-- actual shaved ice!!! Many flavors, ice cream, toppers to choose from and the owners are super nice. This place gets very busy during peak hours, so be patient or get there early. There are a few seats outside. They haven't opened the inside back up yet and not sure if they will. They have the staples like P.O.G. and more interesting flavors you may never have seen before like Li Hing Mui, a flavor inspired by the Chinese plum. The large is really large, so I often opt for a small or medium. Menehune Murph's is legit, they have the best Hawaiian shaved ice I've tasted since hanging out on Maui. We have our favorite place out on the islands and we are constantly wishing we could eat it, basically every day. It's hard to find Hawaiian shaved ice, actual Hawaiian shaved ice, in/around Portland. We always crave it and not the kind we grew up with from the county fair in a paper cone. Give me those tropical flavors, that condensed milk, the ice cream inside! This place does all of it. The only thing I wish they offered was the fresh fruit or mochi but I know that's asking a lot. We are perfectly happy with every shaved ice order we've had from here! We are even more happy that they're on the east side, close to home. Their flavor list is dizzying at how many they offer. My husband also figured out that yes, the red watermelon and green watermelon are indeed different watermelon flavors. A little warning, their sizes are HUGE. So order knowing you're going to walk away with a haystack sized shaved ice! The actual ice is always fluffy and light, perfect to soak up those flavors and mix into the ice cream. If you're ever out in Oregon city on a hot day this is the place to check out. It's hard to find good shaved ice in Oregon and this one gets pretty close to home. The ice is pretty fine and their syrups are sweet (and come from Hawaii). They also serve the shaved ice in plastic containers that have 'drip guards' - perfect for noob shaved ice eaters. I had my shaved ice with ice cream - flavors are all good so just follow your heart, and pick three for maximum variety! The owners are from Hawaii. I spoke w the wife a bit and she's super nice. It does get busy, so get ready to stand in line, average wait time us 10-15min but once you order they call you up within 5 minutes. I realized that I didn't need to travel thousands of miles and to pay twice as much to get good shaved ice. This place it great. I just wrote a not so good review for the location in Hawaii after comparing it to these guys. I have taken my daughter here a couple times. The service is always very friendly and prompt. The product selection is almost too much, I hate having to pick from a large selection and that what they have. The flavors are abundant, and the price is very good for the quality and portion given. Waited in a line that seemed to move slower than it should have for its size. Three guys in their 20s in front of me. When it was my turn, they stayed in the space near the walk-up window waiting for their order to be made and the guy taking orders didn't ask them to move so I would have space to stand back away from the plexiglass. My only choice was to stand right at the counter. And yet every time I leaned forward to talk with the guy (there was a glare on the glass, so I had to bend down to hear him through the opening since I couldn't read lips through the glass), he stepped back as if I had Covid. This happened at least 3-4 times. He wasn't wearing a mask (so how concerned for his health was he?), and he didn't ask me to step back -- not that there was room for me to do so. It was very off-putting to feel as though I had cooties when I was trying to be friendly and ask questions (my first time here and first time potentially getting shave ice) while ordering. It also felt disrespectful that he simply didn't ask the men to move out of my way while they waited, nor did he ask me to wait in line until the guys' order was made -- which I had indicated I was happy to do before he waved me up to order. On top of that, he got my order wrong. After determining that a shave ice for my partner would melt by the time I drove home, I asked for two kiddie cones of Dole whip; one in a cup for my dog who had been waiting with me in line before he asked to be put back in my car parked next to the front of the line. (It was 88 degrees out! Pupper needed to cool down! Don't @ me about putting my dog in a hot car -- I kept the door open and I thought he was crazy too, but he insisted!) Point is, that should have been $4. What I got was a bowl ($4) and a kiddie cone ($2). Not only was this wrong, but it doesn't make sense-- my dog's ice cream was bigger than mine! (I ended up eating most of it, so moot point, but on the face of it, he would have had the bigger serving which is crazy -- the bowl is easily two or three kiddie cones' worth!) I should add that he was incredibly friendly, which is why I didn't complain or say anything about anything. As noted, parking was easy -- I got a spot right in front; the guy right behind me in line parked a few spots behind me. Hardly anyone in line was wearing a mask, and no one working there was either (July 2021). The Dole whip was delicious and hit the spot, so I will definitely come back for a $2 kiddie cone (just the right amount for me on a normal day!), and to try their shave ice when my partner comes back with me. I'll update my review next time; hopefully they can earn back the missing two stars. EDIT: Adding a star because I appreciate the response and explanation for the uncomfortable situation.
