As a professional musician based out of Nashville I have worked with lots of music stores across the country! We rented an upright bass for a few days while on the road in P.A. for a few shows. I never thought in my life that I would put words down on a computer screen praising the customer service of a music store but here goes. My daughter decided at the beginning of this school year that she wanted to attempt the clarinet. I was skeptical but figured meh, why not? I called up a few places more local to me that rent instruments and they all said that because of the early school year rush they either had no instruments at all for the Fall or that I would have to call back in a few weeks after they got a better handle on their inventory. I was a bit miffed at that answer and thankfully a quick Internet search brought me to Menchey. I filled out the rental agreement on line very quickly and got a call back from someone in their office within a day or two confirming a few details and voilà the instrument appeared at her school the following week and a copy of the rental agreement was mailed to me around the same time. Now fast forward six months and daughter says that she has had her fill of the clarinet and that she wants to try something else next school year but for now she's done. So I call Menchey's 800# and the woman I spoke with was great about setting up the return and she also said that my card was going to be charged for the next month's rental tomorrow unless I could take the instrument to one of their stores ASAP in which case she would stop the autopay and things would be good for me in terms of savings. I told her that I knew where the Reading store was and that it would be in their hands first thing when they opened tomorrow. I did my part and the staff at the store handled the return no questions asked along with a receipt saying as much. Next year if we do another rental I have no doubt that we'll use Menchey again simply because they are sooo easy and pleasurable to deal with and while their nearest store is a bit of a hike for me it's worth it in the end. read more

First time customer here. I came in for a re-string on my 7 string Agile and Colin did a great job. Colin was very chill and totally happy to help me out. He installed some really nice D'Addario strings on there and tuned it to A standard for me. Best part is: he got it done and back to me within a couple of hours. Most places make me wait 4-6 days. I purchased an Acoustic Guitar Humidifier that cost $14.99 plus $9.25 shipping. Upon receipt, I found that despite what the dimensions for the opening in the body of the guitar stated, it did not fit my guitar. I called on January 26th and spoke with Customer Service, explained the issue and was told that since I had just received the item on January 22, 2022, a full refund would be offered. I was told I would be receiving an email with RMA and return instructions. Today, I get a text message that I can return the item but only the $14.99 would be refunded. I explained that after paying the $9.25 for shipping of the product to me and then having to pay $8.95 to ship it back, that both charges added together were more than the $14.99 purchase price. When I questioned this, I was simply provided with a link to their return policy. My response was "I know you most likely care about one musician given the size of your company and I really thought that dealing with a local company (PA, I live in NJ) was a good thing since I could have purchased the item elsewhere. Shame on me." I just love it when company's fall back on their policies and never want to make any exception to make a. customer happy. I will no longer deal with this company but the rest of you can certainly do so at your own peril. read more

We previously lived near the READING store, and my nephew had a rental through Menchey/his school. He took guitar lessons for a little while (3 1/2 months) but had to cancel due to other involvements. That being said, there have been negative comments about Menchey Music but I'll say this-- The teachers they have are excellent! Every instructor will go above and beyond to make sure things are going well. Lessons are catered to each student, and make you feel involved in the child's education. It does suck that you have to have a credit check run when renting an instrument-- but wouldn't you want the same thing if you were lending a stranger $2000, more or less? There could be more perks with the rentals, but less than ten for lots of maintenance isn't bad. James, the manager is great and knows how to run a tight ship. The guy with the black hair (didn't get his name), was very helpful and funny and went above and beyond to help us. Lots of people will complain about selection, but the level/pricing of the instruments is directly in line with the clientele. Their goal is to make music affordable and fun for kids and beginners, and I think that is great. Basically, if you want an overpriced instrument with snotty service, take your business to a Guitar Center or other store that thinks having certain brands or vintage instruments is all that makes 'music'. And once you face that disappointment, stop by Menchey and experience a great customer atmosphere with good selection for a 10 year old kid or his 43 year old dad. read more

I was looking for a piece of vocal music for my mother's funeral. Other music stores that I contacted could order the piece and I would need to wait a week till it arrived. At Menchey they have a computerized service where you view the music online and then they print it out in the store for you. Since the funeral was in 3 days I was so glad to have this option. Great little music store with half dozen private lessons studios. Well run and if you take lessons you get a 20% discount off store goods. The commitment here is for the long haul. They are not just trying to sell or rent you a musical instrument, they cultivate that you enjoy it. Repairs,sheet music,sticks,strings etc . You can find it all here,if they dont have it they check inventory at one of the other music stores they own. If your frustrated with lousy strings rentals companies that run out of residential basements this may be your better choice. The store is very well stocked and run. The private lessons program is great. Studios are ready to go when you arrive. Drum studio is professional grade. A.J the drum instructor is sincere experienced and brings the up beat energy your child will embrace and jump in. I love music and shareing the love of creating music is a life long gift to give your kids or yourself. Parking is easy and the strip mall makes for a great location to take a walk if you have time to kill. Benches are all over to make for a nice destination. read more

This is a total scam if you are looking to rent an instrument. My wife signed up without really reading which I know is our fault but Paid $1,000 for a flute I could have bought for $350. They claim that they cover maintenance but thats not worth $650. Do yourself a favor. Do some research and buy the instrument yourself. read more

Do not repeat Do not take lesson from this store. I signed my daughter up for Piano lessons every Tuesday at 4 pm. Her teacher Mark made one Tuesday and we had to reschedule the rest. At the end he canceled her lessons and took off with the money I paid him for the entire month. He stopped answering calls and text and refuse to refund the money. I called the store and they told me there is nothing they can do. They washed their hands of it totally. So after buying a piano book my daughter received three lessons all summer long and the teacher kept my money for the rest of her lessons that he canceled and never rescheduled for and the store said nothing they can do. I have taken two of my guitars to have truss rod adjustments done and both times they have either come back worse or exactly the same as when i sent them in. at this point, I begin to wonder if they even know what it does, let alone how to adjust it. read more
