Love Menards, my go to hardware store for my home and any side jobs I have to do. They almost always have what I need for a relatively cheap price and I have spent tens of thousands of dollars at multiple locations. I've used them to design my kitchen with klëarvūe cabinetry and they went out of there way to physically deliver some missing items they left out of the order when I called and told them. My husband and I have always enjoyed shopping at the Valparaiso Menards. However, our most recent experience with this store was very disappointing.We ordered and paid for some patio furniture and decor on Sunday, and we received notification that our items would be delivered on Monday by a local delivery service. On Monday, we received an email stating that the items had been delivered about an hour after we ordered them on Sunday. However, the items never arrived, as can be documented by our home security system. My husband called the store several times today, and received no real assistance. Two store managers claimed that there was nothing they could do about it because they had to contact corporate and to allow corporate to deal with it. They would not or could not tell us the name of the delivery service, and they said that corporate had to be the one to contact the delivery service or to release its name. Corporate has apparently been contacted by the local management, but they are unable to give us any idea of how long it might take corporate to respond. The store managers did admit that it was a problem that we (and they) were not emailed a picture of the delivered items. However, again . . . They said that only corporate could respond to that. In the meantime, they said that they could not offer us a refund or a credit until they had heard from corporate. We asked for a phone number for corporate and were told that no such number existed. Both managers asked us to please not initiate a dispute with our credit card company until they had heard back from corporate. It is hard to know, at this point, whether "corporate" even exists. Is this a case of "the man behind the curtain?" We hope not. However, we have filed a dispute with our credit card company. The amount spent has been credited back to our card, and Menards will have sixty days to prove that our items had, in fact, been delivered. This was a major hasssle for us and very disappointing. From now on, we will be shopping at the Home Depot across the street. read more

The Valparaiso Indiana Store- Ralph the "Store Manager" decided he was going to call my grandmother a thief in front of the entire checkout section for no logical reason. After checking the footage he finally realized that he was in the wrong and decided to not apologize and left her crying in the front of the store. The real "Store Manager" Chad M. was supposed to handle the situation and contact us back, which still has not happened and really shown how lack luster their "leadership" really is. We have been loyal customers for years, spent thousands, and used to have nothing but great experiences with the store. read more

Used to love Menards prior to moving out west. Now that we just returned, we wanted to update the house. Yesterday we swung into this Menards intending to buy supplies. Upon entering the doors just a couple steps, a customer service rep yelled out to us stating that ALL CUSTOMERS must have a mask! We paused, looked around, saw absolutely no sign confirming her statement. All other companies demanding masks have posted it, but not here! My husband tells her that due to his lung problems he can not wear a mask, and if he will be made to then he will take his money elsewhere. She did not care one way or another! We ended up spending $2500.00 at Home Depot just across the street. Guess Home Depot just earned long-term new customers because Menards customer service! Today I went to Menards to purchase a garage door keypad. I had walked all over the store, occasionally asking for assistance from Menards employees. Not one person asked me about wearing a mask while walking around shopping. I get to the register to cash out the cashier asked me if I had a mask. I responded "no I can't wear a mask for medical reasons." She says "I can't cash you out of you don't have a mask on." Ridiculous! So I had to leave my stuff there and leave. Being escorted as if I were a criminal. I spend thousands of dollars annually there; not anymore. I can shop at Home Depot or Lowe's. read more

If I could do no stars I would. Menards is very concerned with people wearing masks in the store to help during the pandemic, which is fine. But they don't care at all to adjust their policy on returns to accommodate people who were quarantined, or people who were impacted by the pandemic. 2 sliding glass doors were purchased (not special order). We had to return them. We asked 3 separate employees (Sydney, don't know the other names) about how the return would go since it was past 90 days, to ensure we received our money back. We were told that we would be receiving our money back on our card used to make the purchase but we would have to pay an additional $100 to send them back. NOT A BIG DEAL. However, once Menard's received the doors, we were told we would get in-store credit only and if we didn't want that, we would have to pay an additional $100 to have them sent back to us. I have since spoken to 3 managers (Alex, Chad, Dan), the customer service department (Tammy), and their corporate contact (Ray) for issues and as of today menards still has our doors, kept the original $100 we paid to ship them, and we have not received any compensation for our return. Apparently I opted into a non-disclosure agreement when corporate emailed me because they don't want me to share what they had to say about it. Because if the public knew what they said, they would realize that if an issue comes up YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN when dealing with this stuff. If you were to read it, you just might think twice about where you spend your money. They don't care enough to fix the problem, they just don't want people to be able to share their experience and impact their business. If they have what you want and you come in to buy it, you won't have any complaints. Menards seems like a good store. However, if any issue comes up and it doesn't benefit them to help you, they are not going to help you. The main reason I was given by the store manager for why they wouldn't issue a return is because "These two doors are hard to sell and we don't have room for them." It's a crazy world we live in right now but my experience was so bad that I feel passionate about never shopping at menard's again and they couldn't care less. Remember that the next time you go into menard's to make a big purchase. They don't care about you. It's all about the profit. You most likely will not get your money back. read more

Horrendous 'hidden charges'. This is one store that knows how to pad your bills without you even suspecting! Let's say you're sitting home, shopping on line. Coming across Menards you see about $90 worth of merchandise you like so you place the order. OOPS!! Didn't notice they slipped in about $9 as "an ORDER PROCESSING CHARGE"! You won't find that at Amazon, Lowe's, Home Depot or other stores. And guess what? It's not merchandise so no 11% rebate on that charge. Oh, AND THOSE REBATES!!??!! A hundred feet of Romex wire was cheaper at HD with no rebates. And make sure you mail those rebates in! You have a limited number of days to go thru that totally unnecessary hassle and get them postmarked- miss it and your purchase goes up $$ 11%! And then LOSE 11% ON YOUR RETURNS! If you return a purchase, they deduct 11% for the rebate, which you haven't yet received and may not even remember to send in. In fact, their market research shows that most people won't send them all in. They Count on it as a way to raise their prices without the customer realizing, just to add to their bottom line. What? No shipping, no delivery? Somehow you can order an item for about $15 and end up paying an additional shipping fee of tens and tens of dollars! If it won't fit in your car, don't buy it at Menards. Nothing Menards doing is illegal or underhanded. They are just gaming the system to screw you while you walk away laughing at how you got a great deal. These are carefully crafted systemic operations that suck more money out of you than other stores while convincing you of the great deal you got. Car dealerships have nothing on Menards. In fact, lately car buying has been a bit more on the up and up than Menards. Now if you think they're great because of the huge variety, here's a clue: they have a large variety of categories, but actually very limited choices in each! Another way their psychological studies team has come up with ways to fool you! Just yesterday, in need of drop ceiling tiles and bathroom floor/wall tiles, we were next to a Menards, largest in the area. Their selections? Pathetically small. Leaving the store the adjacent strip mall had what looked like a small tile store. Neatly arranged, with displays, they had an absolutely huge variety of tiles; if you couldn't find it there, you would be buying custom. As far as "hardware" stores, Me? I went in and had to ask a few different departments about some projects I want to do. They were so helpful and gave me their advice and product suggestions. I was able to leave with what I needed. I placed an online order 2 months ago. After a few weeks 1/2 of the order arrived and was shipped by the store. I called multiple times every time being told they would call me back to let me know what was going on. After a week of calling they never called back. I went into the store and after 1 hour they claimed they couldn't find the item and would need to reorder it. Here it is a month later and the item still hasn't been been shipped. Meaning it has been 2 months since I have paid for the items that I haven't received. I have tried to contact them asking for a refund and they refuse to talk to me about the issue anymore. Leaving me without my money and without the item I purchase and no option other than possible legal to get one or the other. read more

4/8/13 I called their manager, Milos after an incident that happened to me today. I told him that their employee, Clarissa, was training a new employee on the register. I came in to buy the Brawny towels advertised online for $5.99, but the sign (near the checkout, above them still showed $7.17. Clarissa gave me a hard time, was very unprofessional, rude and was actually laughing at me. And also told me that I couldn't use my coupons, which I questioned why not. I expressed my concerns to Milos, that she was training this new employee and yet treating a customer like this. Front end manager says store manager is not available for pricing problems or customer concerns. Receipt issues now need to be sent by email. Phone number no longer on receipt. Could care less if overcharged. Valparaiso store needs a new manager that can address customer concerns if they want to improve business. Store supply low. 11% rebate means nothing when overcharged $20 on a $100 purchase. What you see on a sign for price may not be what rings up at the register. Returned all of the $100 purchase. There are other stores to shop at including other Menards locations. No reason to support Valparaiso store until management's attitude changes. read more

Menards In Valparaiso Indiana is not helpful. I was simply looking for packing tape and no one knew what isle it was in. The first associate I asked pointed me the in the wrong direction. The second associate I asked couldn't tell me because it wasn't his department. So I walked up to the checkout as I was passed by an associate not even asking if I needed help. At least the guy at checkout knew which area the tape was, which was all the way back in the direction I started. The customer service here is horrible! How can you not know where items are at in your store, and no one is willing to help you find them. read more

Public libraries and other non-profits beware. I ordered and paid for 58 boxes of carpet tile for one of the branches of the Starke County Public Library in Knox, IN on May 12. Our order had been confirmed numerous times. We had to close the library, dismantle shelves, move books and schedule a contractor. The library was closed May 23-25 to supposedly complete the project. By May 27, the flooring manager at this store could not explain where our carpet tiles were. We had to drive to Valpo, Mishawaka, Michigan City, and Schererville to get all of the carpet tile that was never shipped to the Valpo store as promised. We spent extra money, extra staff time, and we inconvenienced our customers. The project was finally completed on Tuesday, May 30. It is 2017. Too bad Menards doesn't have a better tracking and inventory system. And also too bad the Valpo staff clearly doesn't give a rip about customer service or communicating with its not-for-profit customers. read more
