So my Acura needed spark plugs... this is my own novice intellect saying this because my mpg…read morestarted to be like crap and it was sluggish...so the first thing that comes to my mind and the cheapest is change spark plugs and engine filter...and yes, I know nothing about cars. So I politely call the dealership and was quoted 80.00 per spark plug...only the spark plug!!!! Say huh? I've started to do my own nails, but I assure you I have not smelled enough nail paint fumes and acetone to go for something as insane as that!!! So I asked what kind of plugs were these, and if they were made of gold and he said, "No platinum". I researched spark plugs and from what I read, it stated iridium was better than platinum and at Autozone, a nice brand of Iridium plugs were at most 24.00. I was totally cool with that, but for 80.00 bucks a plug, I felt that not only should these things start up my car, they should be starting up my ass or something!!! WTF???!!!! So I called the brothers at Blackline and explained the situation to them. I had already purchased the plugs and the air filters and it they told me to come in. I did and it has been the best experience of my car mechanic life.... lol...and I will never step into a dealership again!! These guys are efficient, transparent, honest and they explained stuff like no else has...I mean, that I wasn't related to. In addition to the spark plugs, I asked questions about other items the dealership said are "issues"....one dealership says I need this, the other dealership says I need that....as a person with no mechanical knowledge, I dont know who to believe and even more who is telling the truth for the 2k they are trying to smother out of me!! I expressed my concerns to Romero and and he took the time to go one a test drive to investigate my issues and even took me in the shop and showed me that each person from the dealership was lying and showed me there was nothing wrong with the parts they were referring to....or that it simply wasnt bad enough to warrant fixing at this point....maybe much later. He could have easily said, "Yeah, they are right" and said, "but I can do it for....." These guys didn't do that! They are honest, upfront and will tell you what is wrong and still give you a way better price than anyone else and they even are cool with you bringing parts like I did. Other places would be like...we cant install parts that you bring in...it doesn't have a warranty..yadda, yadda...but the part you bring in sealed is the same part he just called autozone for 10 minutes after you agreed to his 50 % markup!! We all have to make a dollar...but these guys are doing it honestly and I will without any reservation recommend them. I'm going back for my timing belt and a motor mount and feel that quality work will be performed at a more than decent price!! Check them out..and dont be bothered about the front of the shop..its simple and that's all it needs to be in order to get your car fixed....if you care about the Starbucks machine that is able to differentiate between a latte and a macchiato...then go to the dealership and you'll pay 2x for that coffee in the long run. They have soda, a TV and they'll even drop you off at th he Starbucks if you wish!! I'm never leaving these guys!!

Apologies if this is a long story. After my mother in Michigan gifted my daughter her 2001 VW…read moreBeetle with 48,000 miles on it, my daughter and I traveled from California to pick up the car. We headed out on Thursday morning for the 5 day drive back home to Oakland California, taking a northern route to stop by Badlands National Park and Mt Rushmore. By Saturday evening, we arrived in Cheyenne WY, where we spent the night. After looking at the weather forecast for the Sierra mountains, we decided to pick up some chains for our tires at the local Walmart in Laramie, WY, before continuing on our trip. On Sunday morning, as we got close to Laramie on I-80, the engine started sputtering, misfiring and losing power. The EPC light kept flashing and it was clear something was wrong. I was able to make it to the local Walmart parking lot, though the car stalled a few times on the way there. After I parked, I was unable to generate any power beyond idling, and the car continued to stall. I consulted yelp and google to find a local mechanic, but none of the local shops were open on Sunday. I saw a listing for Rise High Auto Repair, which described itself as a mobile mechanic company. I called the number and spoke with the proprietor, Chris on the phone. He said he could be there in 35 minutes and would diagnose the problem for $125 ($95 diagnostic fee and $35 travel fee) in the Walmart parking lot and that the $95 diagnostic fee would count against the repair cost if we opted to have him repair the car. When Chris arrived in his mobile truck, he was incredibly friendly and he got straight to work. He recommended replacing the spark plugs and wires, thinking that would address the issue. After finishing the repair and clearing the codes, he suggested I drive around in the parking lot a few times to reset the computer to see if the repair addressed the issue. However it did not. I made it about 200 feet and the initial problem persisted. He said he thought it could be an issue with the throttle, which he said he could clean, but if it needed replacement, I'd need to spend a couple of days in Laramie, because it was unlikely any of the local part shops would have the necessary part in inventory. He took apart the throttle, cleaned it out, and reset the computer. We decided to take our chances and see if we could make it to Salt Lake City and then Elko NV, which was about 625 miles away. The car ran well all the way to Elko. We got to Elko around 10:30 pm, and I noticed I had a text from Chis checking in on us to see how the trip was going. On Monday morning, we continued our trip back to Oakland and arrived safely with no further issues. Again, I had a text from Chris on Monday, to see if we made it home ok. All told we drove over 1100 miles. I can't say enough about Chris. First, he was incredibly competent. I could tell from speaking with him that he is extremely knowledgeable about automobile repairs. Watching him work, I felt like I was watching a surgeon. He made all of the repairs in the Walmart parking lot and he worked efficiently and thoroughly to ensure that he was able to repair the car. It was cold and windy on this particular Sunday and he invested over 4 hours of his time fixing our car outside. Finally, he was incredibly honest and kind. He cared enough to check in on us until we got home, something he really didn't need to do. I unequivocally recommend using Chris and his company if you find yourself in Laramie WY.

I have to wonder if this guy is serious…read more I had called him last week about a "ticking" noise under one of my valve covers on a very rare, 1969 Oldsmobile. I specifically asked if he could work on these type of motors and he responded he could. Yesterday about 1:30PM I received a text he planned on coming to my home at 3:00PM. I called him and we talked a little more, and I decided to let him come out and "diagnose" the issue. This included a compression check on the cylinders for $125.00. He arrived on-time...texted me...and left 3 minutes later to go to the bathroom. He went all the way to Haskell and I-75 when there was an Exxon station 1/4 of a mile away. He finally arrived at 3:50. To start, he was pretty rude. He looked under the hood and said, "You're missing hold-down brackets on your valve covers." He went on to state he had a 1990 Chevy and this was how he knew he was correct. There were never "hold-down" brackets on a 1969 Oldsmobile. He then proceeded to tell me I had an oil leak, which was dried oil. He then asked for a $125.00 cash payment, before running a compression check. He never told me he only accepted cash. He said, "You didn't ask." I am not a mind reader. Cash is fine if I know this is the accepted and only form of payment. Needless to say, I sent him on this way. I would avoid someone like this at all costs. Unprofessional every step of the way.
