We have loved having him as primary care for our son. He is so attentive and never makes me feel rushed. In those early months he always told me that I was doing a good job- which is so vital to hear as a new mom! He is always gentle and kind and we love seeing him. We also love Dr. Joel in a pinch where we can't see Hanson. The only negative experience we have had has been with Dr. Miller. I know a lot of people see her and love her doctoring style, but it definitely does not work for our family. The first time we saw her, I tried to explain that my son was in a lot of pain at nighttime and waking up frequently. She told me that he just needed "tough love" and to let him cry. I eventually figured out on my own that it was constipation- but it's frustrating to tell a doctor that your child is in pain and feel ignored. She is also not as gentle as the other doctors and every time we have seen her my son has cried in discomfort when she checks his ears, which never happens with the other doctors. But I think some people like her "no-nonsense" vibe and she seems to work for some families, but is just too harsh for my taste.

Over the years, I have had up and down experiences with Laurelwood. Here are my pros and cons: PROS: Friendly staff Great nurses Docs come highly recommended CONS: Our doctor is lovely but I feel like she's given me very limited options over the years to treat my sons autism and severe ADHD. Talking to other mothers, I felt like there were other options but when I brought them up, she always suggested staying the route. She referred us to a psychiatrist once but that was not a good experience. I once asked her if we could consult with another doctor in the practice because I had seen several articles he and others had written about his expertise with autistic kids. She took offense to my question and said she was the "autism expert" at Laurelwood. I did not like that and considered it to be very unprofessional. If your child is well and has no disabilities, I could see why you think this practice is perfect. However, if your child is sick on a regular basis or has disabilities, I would suggest finding a pediatrician who is open to trying everything possible to help your child.

She never makes me feel unknowledgeable or like I am asking a silly question. I would recommend her 20 times if I could. Her office staff is also great! When I was searching for a pediatrician before I had my daughter I looked up info about the references I had from my OBGYN. When I called to ask about new patients Dr. Sweeten's staff took my information, provided me with clinic specifics, and let me know there was nothing else I needed until baby was born. When my daughter was born about a week later she came to see her in the hospital and visited her throughout the weekend. On my first office visit we received a Comprehensive Associates onesie along with a red tutu as a welcome baby gift. She is thoughtful, kind, and has excellent bedside manner. Oh-- another plus is she actually has some type of student service learning partnership with a nearby university which I LOVE because she is training up our next generation of pediatricians. If you choose Dr. Sweeten I promise you wont regret it. :)

I explained that wasn't possible for multiple reasons. They said they would call back and never did. THREE WEEKS LATER, we needed refills and a follow-up to our original issue. I called and their number was 'out of service.' We went up there and they were closed (on a Friday before 3pm!!) with no sign on the door. We called around frantically. I called on Tuesday and the receptionist had the nerve to be rude when I kindly explained our concern and needs. She said that in her notes they told us 3 weeks ago 'to do XYZ' which was completely untrue (are you adding false call notes to his medical records??) We also paid for genetic testing and never got the results. When I called to ask for the status (3 months later), they said 'oh, we can email them to you.' But didn't know when. What were they waiting on? These are too many errors for our liking.

They had a newborn seminar a month before I gave birth and I am glad they did. It was a great introduction to learn about their office and their physicians. The thing that attracted me to them was their professionalism and commitment to being available for their patients. They have extended hours for those who may not be available during the morning hours. You can go on nights and weekends. With that said, I chose Dr. Yani as our pediatrician. At the newborn, seminar his personality was very straightforward, he was knowledgable, and he seemed very patient and kind. I have been taking my baby boy for the past 6 months and I can say he has been all of those things. He is very reassuring, kind, patient, and available. They would simply tell me what to do without listening to the fact I had been doing those things for a very long time. My son is very small for his age. He has just recently started to sprout. The staff at pediatrics east has always listened to me. They believe that the parents really know their children and will ask questions if there are concerns. I love this. My infant daughter is now in their care. Dr. Fesmire checks my children over thoroughly and compliments me when we speak about little things like changing my baby's baby wash due to eczema.
