I recently bought a laptop for my business from them. I came into their store knowing I would pay more than on Amazon or from the manufacturer direct, but I was relying on their expertise. A laptop is how I earn a living. I was VERY specific with the salesman on the one need I has was the ability to attached 2 external monitors to the laptop. After much searching, he found an option that was a few hundred dollars over my budget but had everything I needed. I did reiterate several times the need for 2 external monitors, and he even sold me an expensive USB C to HDMI cable. After spending a lot of money having all the software moved to the new computer (and being down for 3 days waiting), it was discovered that this particular laptop does not support USB C to HDMI. They offered an exchange, but I already spend hundred on my tech. They also offered another expensive hub. They just didn't seem to concerned and made me feel like it was just another day for them. They didn't even offer to pay for the useless cable to be returned. No I am stuck with a laptop that is 50% functional, that cost $300 more than easily found online, and will cost me hundreds more for a proper docking station. What a waste. Never again. Buy local is BS when you can do better research on your own and save hundreds at Amazon. Be smart people. Do your own research (as it turns out I am just as smart as they are), price check, but you'll likely go to Amazon, or Dell or even Best Buy or Staples for a better deal. read more

What memory express offers is the best place to buy computer parts and their expertise bar none. However, what they lack is customer service. Unless you're building a new rig or ponying over a lot of dough for one reason or another, don't expect them to make your life any easier. My PC had a problem with the USB ports shutting down. All USBs on the back panel would shut off upon every boot up consistently. While it was still under warranty, I provided ME with my PC, all attached accessories and an hour and a half of video footage where I replicated the issue over and over again. Despite having all of this and my PC for over 2 weeks, ME claimed that they were unable to replicate the problem and that the USBs worked every time. Naturally, when I brought it home, on the first boot up, the USBs weren't working. What I had was a faulty USB device, but I had to figure that out myself, ME didn't tell me anything. The more recent issue I had was that I wanted them to install a new SSD and an HDD. So I purchased the SSD and let their techs work on it... But then they called me and said that they could install the SSD but not the HDD. The issue is that there are apparently screws that came with my case that are unique to my case that are required to install more drives. That's fair enough, but how the heck could they install the SSD without those screws? Yesterday, I installed my HDD by myself and I had a look at the SSD... Sure enough, somehow they managed to find the exact screws that they needed for the SSD, but couldn't find them for the HDD. So yeah, if you need a new computer or device, Memory Express is your go to place. However, if you need help afterwards when your not a paying customer, don't expect anything except for grief. read more

Memory Express has basically anything you could ever need for a computer, as well as a helpful and honest staff and a well set-up store. Another really good thing about this store is it is rarely ever busy, so the staff are usually open to help you and there is almost never a line. All of this, combined with the fact that it has some of the lowest prices in Edmonton, makes it one of the best computer stores that I know of. read more

Had a mixed experience with these guys. Went in to build a custom PC. Everything went well, and I left having put down a deposit on the machine I wanted, along with a copy of what I was getting. The guy helping me was very knowledgeable and helped me decide between a few parts that I was having trouble deciding between. They call me a week and a half later, and the guy says he forgot to include a power supply. That's odd I think, since on the paper they gave me listing the build I was getting, there clearly was one. No biggie, I confirm which one I want. Next day I'm told to go pick up the computer. Awesome, but I don't drive, so I need to get someone to give me a lift. This is important. When I get there it turns out they also forgot to install the OS. It would take them a few more days to do so. Well now I'm royally screwed since, again, I do not drive and getting a lift here was a big deal. i take it home and end up doing it myself. When I did, I found out that some parts had not been plugged in correctly! Why am I paying people to build my PC if they a) forget components that I had ordered b) fail to plug some of them in properly! I'll keep coming there for the one off part but I think this is the last time I have these guys build anything for me. read more

Anything to do with computers, this is the place to go. Reason being, its very cheap cause you can price match with any competitor even online stores. It's what i do all the time, price matching whats in store to ncix.com and i save a lot, plus they have IPR (instant product replacement) plans, which are pretty good, if you know when to get it depending on what you are buying. I remember buying a mouse about a year ago, and the IPR plan was $3 extra, in 2 weeks my mouse button caved in, brought it back and got a brand new one right away!!! read more

Here I thought the Northside Store was a little disorganized but Holy Crap, this store is worse. They advertise stuff on sale, but nothing is on the shelves, the store was a mess and trying to get help is impossible. After asking someone on the floor where I can find an item, they pointed me down the same aisle I just came out of. They then said they work in the camera department and I have to line up for help. What a joke, especially since there were only two tills open for help/purchases, but another two people were in the same area kibitzing. My "go to" guy who was always excellent but nowhere to be found must have left or something. I got what I was looking for, but what a waste of time. Think I'll stick with the North Side store since I wanted to punch someone in the face after walking out. Amazing how service can go so downhill in just a couple of months. read more

Waa Waa Waa they built my computer wrong, guess what its 2019 get educated bud and build it yourself, didn't you know you can watch a 10 min YouTube video nowadays learn how to do anything, INCLUDING BUILDING A PC. Came here during a new laptop purchasing adventure I went on recently. Not knowing much about computers I walked over to that section of the store and looked around for a few minutes hoping someone would notice me and come over to help. Nope...although the store didn't seem overly busy at the time no one seemed to be around...or they were busy small talking in the back. I had been to a few stores prior to this one so I was just trying to compare prices however, the prices were not displayed. After waiting around for another few minutes I just got bored/annoyed and left. I did notice that the prices seemed a little lower here than at the other places I had been that day (I noticed a 50" TV that was priced over $1000 lower than visions). I guess I would come back if I was looking to compare prices again in the future - never hurts to check, right?! read more

Hell sure enough it was I took it to the shop to get it fixed and well they quoted me a while just to cover their butts in case is my guess because it was ready the next day. Usually that's the tradeoff, you buy online and get great prices, but you have to know your way around, or you go to a store and they help you out and give you some info, but you have to pay more to cover their overhead. My experience at Memory Express was really good. Although it took a few days to figure out and get exactly what I needed to set up a DIY photobooth for my 30th birthday party. My sales assosiate Dallas was very helpful. He went out of his way to help me figure out what it was i needed. He went as far as to do some research online, reading up on the topic. The service here is really good. They know everything there is to know about computers making it easy to answer any questions you have to make sure you're picking up the right thing the fist time. I also love that they have a diverse selection of products, not just computers. Great prices on the products as well. I am not sure if its on all products, or just select ones, but they also offer LIFETIME warranties! I always think of them when I need something for the inside of my computer. My husband and I have been researching computers for my son and called both Memory Express locations to inquire. The north location is closer, so we called them first. We had a fairly good idea of what we wanted, we just needed some details. The sales staff at the north location were not very helpful and when asked if they'd price match they said they couldn't, because the models were slightly different. So rather than provide an alternative, they simply stuck their heels in and lost us as customers. We called the south location-completely different experience. The staff were polite, helpful, and willing to price match! We went there and bought exactly what we wanted. Also great warranty prices. read more

If you build your own computer this is the only place in town to buy your components, according to my partner, who is a former gaming-geek. (And now just a wee one!) Here they will put together the computers for you if you don't know how to build your own. They have the best prices on components - processor, hard drive, mother board, video/sound cards, RAM, etc. - so, for gamers who demand performance, this is a sure way to make your graphics look awesome and that your game plays at top quality. At your average component store they expect you to know everything about computers, and if you don't they talk down to you or treat you like a fool. At Memory Express, you need to know a bit about what you're doing, but they're very helpful at answering questions in semi-layman's terms. I signed up just so I could post this review. When in today looking to drop my computer off because of problems "upgrading" to Win 10. To make a long story short, James, the guy I spoke to at the service desk, took about 20 minutes to walk me through the likely causes of my problems, and then looked up the information I needed himself. Turns out the drivers I need don't exist, so I was wasting my time trying to fix my problems. I left the store without getting what I really wanted, but that's not the store's fault at all. Importantly, though, I understood my problem, and I knew how to fix it (roll back to Win 7). All this for a computer that I didn't even buy at Memory Express. (Yes, I mentioned that fact in our conversation.) Sometimes some of the staff have been a wee bit condescending in the past, but that seems to be happening less and less. I took my laptop in for service - backlight on screen was not working. It took 15 min in line to get a service clerk to log the laptop into their system. They kept the laptop for 3 weeks and did not fix it. They thought it was a screen cable issue but were wrong so they told me I had to send it to the dealer. When I came to pick it up I waited for 45 minutes in line for the privilege of picking up my still broken laptop. Cost $52 for no service, wasted time and loss of laptop use for 3 weeks. I have gone to Memory express a few times because of referrals from friends. The first 2 times I have gone, the service was excellent and the staff genuinely gave me the best information and products for the least cost and no derisiveness. That was 2 years ago. The most recent time, the staff was outright rude and condescending. Yes, I am not the most tech savvy person out there but I know what I was looking for and they refused to acknowledged that. I will not go back to the south side location. When I took my laptop in for a minor issue they were trying extensively hard to find a reason not to cover it under their in store warranty. If you are looking to make your own computer from scratch, Memory Express has all the parts you will need for that. This store differs from Future Shop and Best Buy dramatically. These two electronics giants have an array of products but weak customer service. Memory express is not stocked as nicely but the customer service is definitely on the level. The guys who work there know computers in and out, and are glad to assist you and make great recommendations. Memory Express has a large online catalog from which they can order any product your computer loving heart may desire. There is also a repair service on site, where your computer problems will be attended to in a timely manner. I am commenting more on the online part of memory express. It has been terrible for me over my last three orders. One was almost two weeks from order date when they finally got back to my emails telling me that they didn't have two of the parts that were listed as available when I ordered them. Finally got all the parts from that order 3.5 weeks late. The second last order was again a delay in getting my item, and keep in mind that I order on behalf of customers sometimes. They didn't give any heads up for why it was delayed, and when I tried to contact them, I got no answer. Just that it was late and they were sorry. The last order I made was just 6 days ago. I ordered a new laptop. It is for a customer. It was purchased along with extra shipping charges so I could get it here within a couple days. Like I said, six days later, no information, no tracking numbers, no answer, no laptop. Seems like this is a pattern or something. Going into their store is an option, but I live 1 hour from the nearest one. So I don't know what is going to keep me buying from them due to this crap service and history. read more

What can I say: Went in expecting to drop off my computer which was all clogged up from everyone else trying to fix it when James opened it up right on the counter and began working on it. 45 minutes later after straightening the mess out and taking the time to explain the basics to me, he wouldn't take any money! I selected one star because I think you have to select something to get posted otherwise it would be zero stars... so here is my story. I was surfing the net for a gigabyte GeForce gtx1070 windforce OC graphics card. It appeared that memory express Edmonton Store may have one. I phoned the store and asked Justin. He said no they don't but they do have a customer return that if I was interested in it I could buy that one for 5% off. So I asked why it was returned and the original customer wanted 2 of these cards so he was waiting way too long for the second one to come in. He decided to return the card and buy 2 other graphics cards made by MSI so nothing was wrong with this card. I decided to buy it. I wanted to pay by visa so I was informed I'd have to use their online store to buy it. Justin gave me their phone number and I'd have to call them to arrange payment by visa. Took 2 days of phoning, emailing, with no response from the online store. I re phoned Justin at the Edmonton west store and told him my situation. He said he would have them phone me... waited half a day no call. I decided to do a phone campaign and kept phoning for about an hour.... finally someone answered. A lady informed me that I'd have to buy the board by finding something else on their site with the same price... and cue that up for a buy. (ridiculous) and mention in the comments that this was a dummy buy and I really wanted a gigabyte gtx1070 skew number XXXXXXX . So after half an hour of searching I finally found something equivalent in price and went through the process of putting it in the cart and doing the dummy buy comment. proceed to final check out and the whole thing reverts back to the beginning start over... I gave up and re phoned Justin pleading to just let me buy this dam card through you...send me an authorization form for payment by visa and lets just do this. I told him all about the ridiculous situation with the online store. He put me on hold for a minute or so and came back informing me that he couldn't sell me the card because I was in Ontario. In my opinion stay far and away from this place as could you just imagine if you had to return something that was defective or whatever your likely to never get an answer or get put to their online store for a refund... I've dealt with ME for the past several years off and on and have been satisfied with my experience up to this point and time. This past week I purchased a D600 camera c/w kit lens. Love the camera but there is a significant sized smudge on the sensor. Called them and told them about and asked to do an exchange. WELL, no way, ME said that they would have to send the camera I purchased back to Nikon and ensure that the smudge was Nikon's fault and not something I did, AS IF my name would be on that smudge. How ridiculous! Give me a break!! This all transpired with in 4 days of the purchase. I was very upset to say the least, to be honest I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I should of keep the my mouth shut and just returned the camera in question for a full refund. After I hung up, I realized that it would just be simpler to clean the sensor myself or go the PS route. I will never purchase camera equipment from them again, will pay the little extra and go to a reputable camera store or a place that actually do stand behind their return policy. read more
