The blue rink of the dual pad facility features a ode to panelling press box which looks like it was built in the early 70s: the rest of the building feels like it han't gotten much care since then. Wires hang instead of being run through the walls; holes, from where errant pucks have landed, have gone unrepaired for years; banners limply hang sometimes from only one string and change rooms and showers are dark and dingy. Of course, the ice is decent and the rooms are clean which is likely why most people don't overly complain. The building houses the Sarnia Sports Hall of Fame and as such you would think it would rank higher on the priority list. It does not.

The Northern Guard are their amazing supporters and provide fun songs, smoke bombs, and shenanigans throughout the games. Excellent variety of food trucks and beverage booths. The big screens, lighting, and overall setup make it easy to see what's going on no matter where you're sitting. It's definitely one of the nicest venues I've been to in Detroit. The food options were also pretty good for an arena. There were plenty of choices around the concourse--from pizza and burgers to other snacks and drinks--so you're not limited to just one stand. Of course, the prices are what you'd expect at a stadium, but the convenience and variety made it worth it. Everything we tried was fresh and hit the spot during the event. The staff and organization were also solid. The employees were friendly and helpful when we had questions, and the arena seemed very well managed. Even with a lot of people there, things moved smoothly and the place stayed clean. Overall it was a fun experience, and I'd definitely come back for another game or concert. My only criticism is that some of the concession stands had extremely long wait times. The biggest issue, however, was that someone vomited on the seat directly behind us during the concert. Several people notified staff, but unfortunately, no one came to clean it up. We had to sit through the remainder of the concert with the smell of vomit around us, which really took away from an otherwise great experience. I was very disappointed with how that situation was handled, especially since it was a sanitation issue. Because there were many positive aspects to our visit, I'm giving 3 stars, but I hope the venue improves its response to situations like this in the future.

The most important detail for a skater, the ice sheet, is amazing! Despite being a hockey rink, the ice isn't too brittle, the surface is well maintained and very smooth. The facility itself is a reasonably comfortable temperature, and there is plenty of space to warm up in the lobby. Highly recommend--it's my favorite in the area.

I came to Pine Knob for a sold-out concert and while the show itself was great and our seats had a…read moregood view, the overall venue experience was honestly overwhelming. The venue was PACKED, and getting around felt chaotic because of the sheer number of people. Leaving after the show was by far the worst part. Traffic and rideshare pickup were a mess, and we ended up waiting around for over an hour before our ride was able to get anywhere near us. It was incredibly frustrating and there seemed to be very little organization for getting people out efficiently. The bathroom situation after the show was also awful. We checked two different sections of porta-potties and none of the ones we tried had toilet paper. For a venue hosting that many people, bathrooms need to be adequately stocked throughout the entire event. On the positive side, getting into the venue from VIP parking was quick and easy, our seats were good, and once we were settled in we had a great view of the show. I'd come back for an artist I really wanted to see, but I would absolutely plan ahead for a difficult exit and would not rely on rideshare being easy after a sold-out show.
