Only been a member for a short while, but I am loving it so far. Every encounter with the staff has been friendly and professional, and I feel great about supporting a local credit union. Will definitely be a member for a long time & will recommend to friends and family. read more

Opened an account and they never called me when my monies transferred in. When I went to inquire, so I could do the transfer into a CD, there was no apology or recognition that they didn't call me, as I was told they would do, when the funds were received. Secondly staff didn't know what an RMD was and potential implications with the IRS. 3rd- employee did not understand interest earning interest after being moved to principle. Needless to say, short of a month and I am having another institution call forth my funds as a trustee to trustee transfer. Then I will close this account. Any more problems or delays regarding this transfer request, and I will file complaints with NCUA and DFPI. No, I do not recommend them at all. read more

I opened the account with a check from Unemployment, but they put a 7-business day hold on my paycheck from a public school district 25 miles away, so I had to BORROW MONEY TO PAY MY MORTGAGE BECAUSE I COULDN'T COVER MY OWN PAYCHECK. Pathetic. read more

Since when does a bank or credit union refuse to deposit members' work paychecks into member's accounts (if these members are small indie contractors)? Since before now, when Members 1st made this an unstated policy. This new information, relayed to me today, upset my day. Members 1st seems to fail to understand that there are different types of businesses that should be addressed in different ways. And it's not a bank or credit union's business to dictate what money that's paid to us for our labor they will accept or not, for our personal accounts. It's certainly not aligned with laws (i.e., to implement this could invite lawsuits). But that's what they're attempting to do. Many of us are independent contractors who simply cannot afford (fiscally or emotionally/convenience-wise) to establish a separate account for business only, and one for food and life necessities, etc. As if every dollar for our labor needs to be set aside for business purposes only. How does this make any sense? Who has that kind of slush fund luxury? Certainly not credit union members of Chico's Members 1st. Sure, if I ran a for-profit or not-for-profit organization, it would be illegal (embezzlement) to accept checks to my personal account and then spend these monies on Taco Bell or new clothes. But when and why has Members 1st taken on a role of policing this? Its broad based rule effectively threatens to reject all paychecks made payable to small independent business owners like me, folks like me who are barely making it and have to pay outrageous amounts (five digit numbers, likely) in taxes, despite meager salaries. Take note, if you're considering switching to Members 1st. It's highly disheartening that I'm dealing with more stress since I made the change from Bank of America to Credit Unions. The top layer of both seem to be inflicted with controlling filthy rich CEOs who make rules reflecting total lack of attunement to the average Chicoan/human's day-to-day challenges. How about Members 1st being managed by its members? This policy is classist (it favors the extremely wealthy, and isn't workable for the rest of us). I will happily remove and/or change this review once Members 1st understands about the legal, practical, and emotional ramifications of demanding that independent contractors open separate business accounts, or they'll threaten to NOT accept OUR paychecks for OUR LABOR. Change this policy. The second star is because they're generally much nicer than Sierra Central. read more

Love this place. Great place in Chico to bank. Very friendly and knowledgeable. Ty all for your help

after the amazing disrespect shown at this branch to their own employees, I have convinced my grandfather to move his account elsewhere. if they don't treat each other well why should I entrust our financial care to them? read more

They have always been friendly and treated me well. No charge or fee for printed monthly statements, unlike the creeps across the street. I had direct deposit from my employer for years and never had a hitch. However, I never needed a loan from them and I never use ATMs--theirs or anybody else's. Again, I much appreciate fee free banking, but my needs are simple. read more

I've leaned in to the credit union experience and generally like the small, local service I get with Member's First. My car loan is through them and after two years I wanted to investigate my options for a refinance to a lower interest rate. I told the rep on the phone one of my main intentions is to decrease the term of loan, ie: pay it off sooner. She took all my info and promptly ran a full credit check. She emailed me saying to get back to her. I attempted to do this with three phone calls over three days and she did not call me back. Day three, I called the main number amd got a call back from another representative. He told me my credit score wasn't good enough to get a better rate, that he could see that from the credit portion of my online account -which I could see without running a credit check- and directed me to a Google search for a reverse payment calculator. So, why did they run a full credit check which dings my credit score?? And she didn't call me back, cause she couldn't sell me a product? I thought the credit union wanted to care about it members? They need to work on their training, care, and skill. *this needs to include some trauma support for their staff managing since the Carr Fire and all the community emergencies. read more

I'm new to Chico, so I had to move banks. Do NOT go to Members 1st if you want to keep your money. This credit union has done nothing but charge me money. I had my mortgage payment paid, Members 1st charged me a fee, (later reversed as a "courtesy") My mortgage company charged me a late fee anyway. I moved money between my own accounts and was charged a $5.00 Fee for doing it six times. My other credit union covered me all the time, this one looks for ways to charge me, definitely NOT Members 1st! read more

Not sure what to say at this point...where should I start? Avoid this place like the plague. I just got a loan not long ago and already see they are super unorganized and dysfunctional. This erupts onto the customer experiences. I have spoken with reps at least 6 times (called much more than that) in the last 2 months trying to get everything straight. Attempted to enroll online but did not know my account # since I am brand new. Called to ask and after giving the lady my social security number, she told me she could not share such personal information with me via the phone. Really?! I just gave my social (much more personal than a policy #) yet could not get any information from my account? I was told I would have to hurry up and run to my local branch that was closing in 10 minutes to get the account number. Not even possible with my kids. I asked for a direct phone number to call and the lady said there was not one. I called the next day and they gave me my account number no problem. Finally I could create an online account! Attempted to do so but could not because the website claimed my policy # was incorrect. So I made another call and they confirmed my number was correct but they were having problems with the site. They said it has been happening quite often with others and they are working on fixing the issue. So, I finally paid my bill via the phone and we set up a direct deposit for reoccurring payments. Fast forward to a month later (this month) and I see nothing has been withdrawn. I call to check up and make sure it was set up and the guy said no problems. I was told that because it was a holiday it would come out a couple days late. Fast forward to a couple days later and nothing has happened. I call back to question it and they say someone set up the direct deposit wrong. I gave all my banking info when setting it up yet they claimed they had no information on where the payments would come out from. Apparently, someone set it up to come out of the account the loan was in instead of the account I told them to take it out of. Now they are blaming it on me saying it was a mistake on my end and that I needed to set it up from my other bank instead of with them. They also said I would be charged a late fee for this mistake even though I was assured everything was fine up until now. I told the lady that is not right to do this to someone and she said she would talk to her boss and call back later. I am so frustrated with this company, I have spent hours trying to get this right...time I needed to do other things. Now I am wasting my time writing this long review but people need to be warned to stay away. This place is ridiculous. What a big scam! read more

These guys are great! Very friendly, much more personalized than the big banks. I got a great interest rate on my car loan, and they were very amiable for the whole process. I also have a long-winded, convoluted story about getting a new debit card that reflects quite well on them. Highly recommended. read more
