The smell of icing and cakes reminds me straight away of past birthdays; that distinctive yearly scent that makes the day memorable every time (it does for me anyway).
This is what immediately hit me when I walked into Melting Moments, and the quirky range of handmade cakes made me really wish it was my birthday already. The store sells several Wallace & Gromit and Wile E. Coyote & Road Runner cakes, that I grew too fond of aesthetically. They were amazingly detailed, but at a closer look, I'm not entirely sure how fresh they were. Mainly due to the fact that some of the icing had fallen off, such as one of Gromit's ears. This did put me off a little bit, I must admit. And the price was also a little too high out of my range, as I'm not sure if I'd spend £45 on this cake, especially without knowing how long they'd been in store for.
Additionally, there were no staff in store (quite worrying) to welcome me into the shop on the day I went in. So I couldn't ask any questions regarding how fresh the cakes were. Maybe the cakes on show should look a little more newer to tempt customers. read more
