There is a surreal touch as the table they are sat on looks like it is close to buckling with the weight of these light and airy fancies. Some two dozen traditional English, Mediterranean and artisan breads are baked at the simply named Bread Collection. There is also a delicatessen counter with pickles, chutneys, and a good selection of continental cheeses, including Comte, a kissing cousin of Gruyere. I eat this strong and slightly sweet cheese on its own, a cracker seemingly superfluous, and unnecessary. The foodies dream is made complete with a sit-down coffee shop selling sandwiches, hot drinks, light lunches, and those psychedelic meringues from earlier. In addition to monging fine foods to eat in and eat at home, Bread Collection is a delightful place in which to spend time.

If you fancy eating in you can as there are a few tables but it would seem that most people take away. They have outside seating and it is nice to catch a few rays whilst tucking into some food. They do a meal deal which is perfect for lunchtime if you work near the cafe or happen to be going past. A great addition to the community.

There is a fridge full of lunchtime sandwiches including a wide range of soft drinks (plus Luscombe fresh fruit drinks which are hard to find elsewhere) and a deli counter at the back for peppers and olives. There is a small cafe attached to the bakery. It can get very busy, particulary on Saturday mornings, so be prepared to stand your ground against over-eager shoppers. For this reason, and the fact that the staff can be a little brusque, it gets four stars rather than five. Still worth a detour though.

Firstly - the personalised cupcakes. Each individually boxed, these light airy cupcakes were topped with delicate glittery heavenly buttercream, and with each girl's name piped across the top. Fab. SECONDLY (and more importantly) the cake. THE CAKE. It was a solid gigantic cupcake. Boxed up, it was reasonably unassuming (aside from height and weight which should have given away the awesomeness that was contained within..) but upon opening the seal on the box, a deep whiff of chocolate escaped and the girls all started doing little happy dances. We peeled the box away, and all gawped at what sat before us. Something that should have it's own category - just enough flour to make it constitute a cake, but really it was much more like eating spongey chocolate. Eating this cake made my insides do happy flips. Chocolate, chocolate, more chocolate. Delicious luxuriously deep buttercream on the top and the middle, and the rest was incredible dense crumbly beautiful sponge. I realise this review makes it sound a bit like it was a religious experience, but I can't begin to find the words that will do this cake justice. So yeah. You need a cake? You need Boutique Baking. The cake was supposed to represent her strength and resolve to the powers of the grim reaper. We decided on a three tier fruitcake with 95 written in icing all over the front of it. Creativity has always been at the heart of our philosophy at Boutique Baking, the director, Vickie, told me. Vickie's ethos is to create distinctive and delicious delights for her customers whilst keeping to their personal budget. She works closely with clients to develop bespoke creations, specialising in events where only the unique will do. The cake studio which provided the opportunity to see examples of their work, try samples, discuss individual requirements and see their interesting range of products available to hire was an interesting edge to the business. I was pleased with the end result and will use this company again.

Sandwiches and baguettes are made to order with plenty of filling choices available. The Honey Roast Ham and salad sandwich was packed with the chosen filling - tasty! They have also have deli items such as samosas, and pies and a range of sweet items such as iced biscuits, tarts and other homemade treats. There is a fruit and veg stall inside and outside the frontage of the shop. A few tables and chairs are situated outside, which is a nice little spot to soak up some sunshine. Customer service is friendly too. I've been told the egg and bacon baps are epic so will have to give one of those a whirl!

All the pastry has the unmistakable individual hallmarks of good, shop-made products. Eric Lyons also stock home-made pickles, chutneys, and the more unusual Madhuban Honey Garden (the perfect brand name for Indian influenced cuisine made in rural England), fresh and hand-made curry sauces. On the drive over here I was discussing with my driver my considering being a vegan. All that is in doubt now that I am positioned over the meat cabinet on the other side of the shop. It's filled with traditional chops and steaks, and some more unusual products. Turkey Balti sausages are another example of Indian meets English, and while I wont' be buying them in the warmth of late May, they are a top contender for Boxing Day supper. We leave with two chilli burgers and two minted lamb burgers, for an early evening barbeque, but I'll return for a proper mission here later this year and I'll be sure to have plenty of room in the freezer.
