Well, I'm always a bit suspicious of a string quartet with a set-list including plenty of pop. It just seems that bit too Cowell-friendly, an easy pitch for the unimaginative thinking they're onto a winner - "Doreen, it were grand... they had violins, but you'll never guess what they played, Black Sabbath; oh how me and Clive laughed ... Not guitars, Doreen... violins.... and then it were Snow Patrol, and I cried. If they had a CD at the Shell Garage I'd buy it, and do a copy for Samantha's birthing mix."
The thing is, there's no getting away from it..... For all the imagined up-is-down hilarity for the Il Divo sorts, Cowell included, the overall effect from Nero is breathtaking. It's not musical mutton dressed as lamb, it packs a proper punch.
The list of music from which a customer can pick to fashion their own bespoke set is amazingly long and near exhaustive. I can still hear Penny Lane now.... Where's Doreen with those tissues. read more
