I never steal irons from hotels…read more.... So, why o why does it need to be fixed to the ironing board. The first one had to be replaced because it leaked, and the second was only marginally better. Friends staying at the same time had to have theirs changed twice. I need to get a glass to fill with water then to fill the iron from the glass. Not easy. You can't be expected to cart the whole contraption into the bathroom!!! Get real for goodness sake. Whilst you at it, check for stains on the ironing board. Otherwise they can transfer to clothes being ironed. The staff are pleasant. On checkout, even though I was told I had free continental breakfast, and I made this known when I entered the restaurant. On check-out they had added two full English breakfasts to the bill. Once I said that I didn't have a full English it was removed from the bill. Apart from that all else was OK. I'd take my own iron next time.... I didn't eat in the restaurant in the evening as we were booked into a restaurant elsewhere.

First thing I noticed was the reception and lobby area : pretty stylish and modern decor. I wish I had taken some photos... Room : Very nice clean room with huge comfortable bed and a pretty good view of Birmingham skyline. The bathroom had a shower AND bathtub(equipped with bathrobes) and the it was very clean. The room was well equipped for working professionals (desk chair, full size mirror, international plug points, coffee maker, iron-board etc etc) The cherry on the cake was their pillow menu(for people with different preferences/feathers- you can request your own choice of pillows) and the pillow spray for a good night sleep! Out of curiosity, I tried it and I found it great! Service - I think they were courteous and friendly and check-in and check-out processes were smooth. Food : Decent options, although restaurant had many more choices than the room-service menu. Location: very central; walking distance to Birmingham cathedral and shopping street(New Street) and train station which goes straight to Birmingham international airport. The negative: Shower could be a bit dark(no overhead lights) and the lifts were old. Only 2/4 were functional when I was there. Wifi - the standard free wifi was bad; only sufficient for light browsing/emails. In all fairness, they do say that the free wifi does only that but when you are paying 150 GBP a night, I think they should throw in high speed wifi. But overall, I had a pleasant stay and I would come back.

Advised me on a number of options according to budget and even threw in a few extras on the day. They fitted and collected and were even willing to come out mid way through the party after a few technical hitches (from our end not theirs) arose and they were on hand to sort them out. Breakfast was great, service was excellent and very prompt. Coffee was good too. At £16.95, its the most expensive I have eaten in Birmingham - but this does come with access to the pastries and cereals too - so its still expensive though, compared to others locally. Breakfast consists of eggs, (I had 2 perfectly poached ones), 2 bacon, a flat mushroom, half a tomato, black pudding, (not great - a bit crumbly) and a tiny sausage. Its a shame about the sausage - it should have been bigger or another should have been added to the breakfast. Would I go back? Possibly. There is some great competition in Birmingham

We even met the manager, I think his name was Manny, and he was super friendly. He definitely wanted to ensure our stay was a pleasant one and he would acknowledge us every time he saw us. Served up in the lovely…read moresurroundings of their Alvar Bar (all subtle grey tones with deep flashes of plush red furnishings and large over-sized lampshades) we chose to sit right up in the corner of the tinted floor-to-ceiling windows (the hotel has a unusual pointed glass frontage more noticeable from the outside) giving us a view of the length of the cafe. Granted the view of the roadworks outside wasn't great but there was plenty to look at when the 3 trays of food arrived! Especially while sipping a little Prosecco. On the top shelf of our 3-tier tray we had delicious skinny sandwiches with salmon and cream cheese, Coronation (we think) chicken and ham salad. The inside-out cucumber rolls were a great take on the traditional great British afternoon cucumber sarnies but the super-tasty bit was the oozing Welsh rarebit served as a pot of gooey cheese with crusty bread to dip in - YUM! The next tray was for the scones. Wholemeal and regular served with Jam and Clotted Cream (although we pretty much used up all the cream on 2 scones). And finally the sweet tray. A take on a walnut whip and a jaffa cake were served with a treacle tart (all in 2-bite size portions) however my favourite was the Eton mess - it was like eating a cloud; a light, fluffy, sweet that melted away in my mouth. This was topped off with a pretty fine selection of teas or coffee, and if you wanted, you could also choose from a selection of cocktails (Gin & Tonic served with cucumber / Earl Grey Martini / Glass of Veuve Clicquot). The High Tea costs £15.95 per person and the cocktails are extra. I'd say it is well worth but my top tip is just DON"T EAT BEFORE. There is a lot of food to get through. I'd say this is ideal for girls that lunch, a birthday, hen weekend or a treat for your mom. High Tea is available Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons and Bank Holiday Mondays. The rooms are spacious and ornate, and it is set in lovely grounds. They also do a special spa package for your hen night, although I chose to go abroad. The toilets are awesome! Huge, and very clean. Very good value for money for a wedding reception.
