I attended a special service at First Congregational Church of Stamford and Melt Mobile was there serving up their delicious grilled cheese sandwiches during what had to be the most fun and kicked-up church coffee hour I've ever had the pleasure of attending! Please allow me to disabuse you of the idea that Melt Mobile's offerings are simply grilled cheese sandwiches. Oh no. Melt Mobile serves unique, gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches for the kid in us who's just a bit older. I sampled the BBQ pulled pork with cheddar, caramelized onions, and sliced dill pickles on two slices of grilled country white. Two words: Oh my! Another two words: Must try! Not into pork? Why not try their California chicken melt with cheese, grilled chicken, tomatoes, avocado, and ranch dressing on grilled multigrain? (I took one to go for dinner later. The heck with my cholesterol!) Other offerings include a burrata melt, a jalapeño popper melt, a smash burger melt, a meatball melt...you get the idea. In the mood for something sweet? There's a cheesecake melt featuring a thin slice of NY-style cheesecake sandwiched between two slices of poundcake with powdered sugar dusted onto it. There's also a s'mores melt and a fluffernutter. Hubby and I had the pleasure of trying some delecs from the melt food truck in Larchmont, at the Fall Food Truck Festival in Memorial Park. The park was packed and the lines were all crazy long. It was at least a 45+ minute wait on every line. Hubny and I decided to divide and conquer so he waited on the melt line and I waited in a line for some other food. Whe he waited, he sent me their menu and I asked for the meatball melt and the cheesecake melt. What wasn't on the menu was their short rib melt, which had I m own, I would have gotten instead but luckily hubby got that one and I was able to get a good few bites of it. Both sammies were great. The meatball melt was messy AF but worth it with its overflowing cheesy meatball madness oozing out. The cheesecake melt was yummy, too...it consisted of a thin slice of cheesecake, sandwiched between two slices of marble pound cake and grilled. The one thing I would change is the thickness. I would have liked the pound cake a little thinner and the cheesecake a little thicker but all in all, it tasted great. read more

My only hesitation in raving about my Melt Mobile experience is that the next time I go to book them, they might be too busy for me! From the start of inquiring with Melt Mobile to the last delicious morsel consumed, everything was spectacular. The ease of scheduling was so appreciated. They serve hefty portions of delectable sandwiches at a great price for a "catered" event. I had guests from age twenty-one to ninety and I heard NOTHING but rave reviews for the Melt Mobile cuisine. I'm beside myself that I didn't get back in there for the cheesecake dessert after my meatball extravaganza, but my stomach just didn't have the room. Melt Mobile is a new gourmet grilled cheese food truck that just opened in Stamford, CT! I was there for opening day as a part of a FLASH MOB! (Look for me on Food Network ;D) Bobby Flay was on set, shooting for his new untitled television show on Food Network where he follows food entrepreneurs around the country. He was helping out by giving out cups of tomato soup to everyone standing on line. I work in Stamford and didn't hear about the new food truck, but apparently many others did because there were a good amount of people there! Melt Mobile serves over 12 types of grilled cheese sandwiches, a good number of sides (all sorts of fries and tots included) as well as 3 dessert sandwiches. The sandwiches range from $5.50 for the original melt grilled cheese (Tillamook Cheddar, Gruyere, Monterey Jack on Country White Bread), to $8 for the specialty sandwiches. I had The Mademoiselle: Triple Cream Woolwich Brie, Prosciutto di Parma, on Cranberry Pecan bread. It was very satisfying - $8 will get you full! There are also a slew of add-on's you can get, ranging from bacon to wild mushrooms, clocking in from $0.50 to $1.00. Agua is $1.50. Melt Mobile donates 2% of their proceeds to the Umbrella club, a charity devoted to helping under privileged children in need! The truck is stationed at Veteran's Park, M-F 11am-4pm. read more

I hired MELT MOBILE to supply sandwiches to our guest as they were departing my daughters wedding this weekend. What a SUCCESS! People actually came back into the venue to say goodbye a second time and thank me for these delicious sandwiches! From day one Darlene and her staff were a pleasure to work with. They accommodated all my requests and did exactly as I asked. On the day of her wedding they showed up on time and within minutes were prepared to start serving sandwiches. The smells alone as they were cooking were incredible and each sandwich was better then the next. They offered an incredible variety of different grilled cheese sandwiches. A simple menu, but each dish sounds delectable. I chose a Pork-U-Pine sandwich and for dessert a Strawberry Supreme Melt! They were so Blood Good! They both had the perfect crispy crunch on the outside and delicious, ooey-gooey goodness on the inside. The Pork-U-Pine had extremely moist and flavorful pulled pork with cheddar cheese and dill pickles. Dill pickles made me do a double take when I read the menu and I wondered how that is going to work out. But let me tell you that it is pure genius. The slight tang from the pickle and its crunch really elevates this sandwich. The Strawberry Supreme Melt was a perfect combination of fresh strawberries, nutella and "vanilla-infused" mascarpone! Eh, the cafeteria in my office complex makes a better (albeit, simple) grilled cheese sandwich than this. And that's saying a lot. I went basic and had the original melt grilled cheese (Tillamook Cheddar, Gruyere, Monterey Jack on Country White Bread) + bacon + tomatoes. Wayyy too salty. And buttery (but at least I was expecting that one!). It also had too much cheese for my taste but I like my stuff small and simple. The gruyere was overpowering the other two which I didn't like. My coworker asked for the svelte (I was there and can attest to it) but was handed the same thing I ordered. She found out when we got back to the office. I had the pleasure of experiencing Melt Mobile a few months back at beer garden. I was originally walking to a neighboring food truck (Hapa) until this caught my eye. Gourmet grill cheese sandwiches? Definitely interesting and definitely worth visiting at least once. Upon taking a closer look at the menu, I easily succumbed to ordering. They offer a variety of combinations that sounded equally mouthwatering. I ended up ordering three kinds (meatball, avocado, the other one forgot but it was a rotating special). The bread is perfectly grilled with a slight char and the meats all melted beautifully with the cheese. It didn't blown me away by any means, but it was highly enjoyable. I recently had a chance to check out Melt Mobile. I really enjoyed my Caprice Grilled Cheese Sandwich. My Husband had an old fashioned Grilled Cheese. The bread was perfectly grilled, the cheese was melted to perfection (maybe even mixed with two different kinds, not sure), and the containers were just the right size for our sandwiches. As with any grilled cheese sandwich there was a little grease, but hardly the amount I had expected. The Ladies aka the owners were such nice friendly women. I really enjoy my experience and I recommend you check it out. My only gripe are the hours. They are open from Tuesday through Friday 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. I would love to see them open on the weekends, and in a different location. The parking for Veterans Park is not great, but it is worth the trip. I hear they are on Bedford Street once in awhile which is much better in terms of parking. With the addition of a second truck to the fleet I can now get my melt fix in Norwalk! And that's an awesome thing! Even the basic "original melt" is packed with so much flavor. Somehow they manage to get the perfect crisp on the crust. I have never had a grilled cheese this good. Make sure you try the specials. Like the pulled pork one, or the French dip. My mouth is watering just thinking about them...wish I had bought two sandwiches for lunch! Please hit up Big Shirley in Norwalk so they stick around. We need to grow the following! Even though it was really busy I only had to wait about 5 minutes for it to be made, and the woman taking orders was very friendly which made the experience more pleasant. It had a great meat to cheese ratio- neither overpowered the other. The bread was a little dry but overall a great sandwich, and I HIGHLY recommend eating it with the mixed berry jam. My Friend had them come to there wedding at midnight, for the last minute bite before you head home with a hang over. great Idea, everyone loved it. I am since a fan, and have gotten the entire office addicted. During the week they park on North and Prospect, kind of random, but worth the 3 minute ride. This is a really great comfort-food treat. The actual menu is small but they run a lot of specials... I think I've had 4 different sandwiches and all have been delish. The montecristo may be my favorite (turkey, ham, and cheese blend on french toast with a light dusting of powdered sugar and raspberry jam for dipping- the perfect combo of salty and sweet), but the pulled pork special and the meatball are close seconds... oops, I forgot the original with sauteed wild mushrooms and chives, dipped in the tomato basil soup-- yum! My review is based on using their truck for a party experience. The food was fine, but the service was not. I've used many food trucks for parties, and this one had major flaws. I wouldn't recommend them for private rental: 1. They ran out of types of sandwiches very early. Within 40 minutes (of a 2 hour serving window), they ran out of burgers for their hamburger grilled cheese, and within an hour and 15 minute ran out of Caprese grilled cheeses. 2. They never shared that they'd stop serving savory grilled cheeses, and switch to dessert only grilled cheeses during the last portion of their serving, but they did. This was a surprise to us and our guests. 3. They were pretty clear that they charged "per person" prior to booking, but reported a total more than 50% higher than the number of party goers that we had, stating the number of sandwiches they sold was so high. I reminded them that kids under 5 were free (which we had 24 of), and they kept repeating the number of sandwiches they made. Obviously, if you're charging $22 per head, and your most expensive sandwich is only $10 (which they ran out of), then you're accounting for people eating more than 1 sandwich. We also had snacks and drinks at the party, so barely anyone took them from the truck. I feel they totally took advantage of me at the end of the party when reporting the bill, and while being totally flustered, I didn't realize that they didn't even provide a receipt (so I'm unable to dispute the way in which they overcharged). So disappointed in this local business and the way they handled things, but luckily there are lots of other great food trucks that can be used! read more

If that's not enough to draw you to the Melt Mobile, maybe the sweetheart truck owner, Darlene, is! Last weekend my (drunk) friend approached the truck to buy a delicious specialty grilled cheese before the truck was open (it was only about midnight), and Darlene opened up the kitchen and whipped up a steaming hot jalapeño popper grilled cheese for her ON THE HOUSE as a birthday treat! If I got the death penalty and had to choose my last meal on earth, it would be a sandwich from the Melt Mobile....the problem would be deciding which one. I have tried the classic with truffled mushrooms, the beef short rib melt, and the 3 cheese meatball squeeze and all are equally indulgent and amazing. I ordered a bunch for myself and my office friends and everyone was just as impressed as I was. Every sandwich had ingredients that tasted totally homemade with the perfect combination of crunchy bread and creamy cheese. I have seen this truck at several events in Fairfield County and they always have the longest line of people waiting compared to other gourmet food trucks. I'm not sure what they put in those meatballs but they are truly the best I have ever had.. Definitely the best $8 meal you can buy! read more
