I was in a lot of pain from my neck to my shoulders, down to my lower back and I needed a deep tissue massage. I went to my usual place on 94th but they were really busy that day and unable to make a last-minute appointment. I heard through the grapevine that the Melt Feathers Spa was an incredible place with the best service. I instantly ran over to the address and asked for a 60 minute deep tissue massage. They were able to get me on the table right away. The person who worked on my back was incredible and got into the muscles and a way that "melted" my knots away. They put on hot stones. (My first deep tissue hot stone massage) and they fixed in on my problem areas. At the end of the session I left feeling rejuvenated, relaxed, and satisfied. The only reason why I left a four star review instead of a five star review is because when I left a tip they hassled me into leaving a larger tip. "If you really think we did a good job you should leave more money." That was unprofessional and honestly kind of rude. It didn't ruin the experience, but it left a bad taste in my mouth. Good massages in a clean and cozy space. Melt Feathers is on the top-tier of affordable massage facilities in Manhattan. The rooms are inviting and beautifully decorated. The massage tables are high quality and very comfortable. Although they're not heated, there are portable heaters if needed. "Spa" is a little misleading, since they don't have any wet facilities, but I know the name is meant to allude the spa atmosphere. When I arrived, they didn't ask me about any areas to focus on or pre-existing health issues, which is typical of certified massage therapists. When the massage started, they applied zero pressure. It felt more like someone lightly running their hands over me in a wiping motion over my skin--not activating my muscles at all. I get massages frequently, so I can tell the difference between light, medium, and hard pressure. (I typically get light to medium pressure.) I asked her to deepen the pressure, and she flat out refused. Instead, she said that any increase in pressure would require changing the service to deep tissue. This was very strange, and I'm convinced this was meant to mislead clients. I managed to convince them to charge me the Swedish massage price, but it was frustrating that this was even an issue. The massage, itself, once they actually applied pressure, was excellent. Overall, I would recommend Melt Feathers, but if you're going to get a massage, you'll need to ask for a Deep Tissue to receive a standard Swedish with a certified therapist. I removed one star because of the miss communication and the "spa's" service menu was misleading. read more

Beware of remembering to collect all personal belongings as you leave your session because the massages here are so relaxing your mind seems to be in this subdued hypnotic trace that many patrons forget watches, hats and other items as indicated by a large jug at receptionist of left behind items!(",) I feel brand new!! read more

I wasn't going to post but today I needed to let others know...I have been here a few times and had wonderful massages (Swedish). The owner was always wonderful and very kind and accommodating to your schedule. However last night I went in and informed the owner AND the masseuse that I have sciatica. The masseuse started work on my lower body and when I informed her which side was very sensitive she continued to use very painful strokes and pressure. I cried out multiple times and she never let up. I almost felt like leaving mid massage because it truly felt like I was being tortured. When I left the room I told the owner how painful I was. She chuckled. This morning, I woke up with severe bruising on that already painful side and I am unable to really walk. I've never experience this here before. I will not be going back. read more

A reservation for date and time is a must and they have room for one person or double if you're bringing your spouse or a relative. I got a good impression from the friendly receptionist when I called to make an appointment on the same day, and I was lucky that they had plenty of availability on Sunday. My masseuse was Jenny, and she was nice enough to ask me if the strength she was using was OK for me. She was a bit too strong for Swedish massage, and I thought it could be deep tissue at some point....(she adjusted per my request). As another reviewer said, she got on the table to work on my back, and that was a bit weird... Truly awful. It's always been hit or miss here (and I have had a few amazing massages) but tonight was a huge miss and I will never return. During the entire massage I just wanted it to end. I thought about getting up and walking out early but with the oil on I decided to just stick it out for the sake of my clothes. Worst massage of my life. Pressure was way off (either too hard or not enough pressure), she used only one hand almost the entire time, and she stayed on the same area for too long (to the point that it genuinely hurt and not in a good way). The table was also squeaking the entire time and I'm pretty sure she got on the table with her knees next to each side of my butt squatting over me. It made me super uncomfortable and It was so not relaxing in any way. As I was leaving to pay, the owner asked me if it was OK and I said not great and she said "you've been here many times maybe we just don't have the right masseuse for you." I guess she has forgotten about the two 5 star reviews I wrote for them (that I deleted after my last awful massage but chose not to leave a negative review at that time). Amazing. This place looks brand new, but they've been open for 4 years. I don't think I could keep anything looking this nice for 4 years. I had a 60 minute deep tissue from Camila, who managed to find ALL of the knots in my back and shoulders, including some in my lats I didn't even consciously know were there. The actual cotton sheets (no sketchy reused towels here) are changed after every client, and there's an actual towel to put your face on, versus the common "torn paper towel" at the $50 places. For $80/hour ($84 with tax on a cc), this was a steal, and I'm totally coming back. read more

I feel light as a feather and I am a muscular guy who works out 4-5 times per week. She really got in there... This place is fantastic! My deep-tissue massage with Alice was more than I could have asked for. She put so much effort into kneading my muscles and getting out all my knots. I was thoroughly impressed. She responded to my requests for adjustments quickly. I had to reiterate a couple of times but she got the memo eventually. After an 8-hour flight to get to NYC, it was just what I needed. The studio and the bathroom were clean and well-kept. They play light spa music during your massage. To add to the experience the woman behind the counter was warm and pleasant. This is a spectacular spa. I first went for a massage about a month ago and had one of the best massages I have ever had. The setting is lovely, soothing, well-designed, and immaculate. Each massage therapist I have had has been superb. I like very strong massages (and am very picky--often going to multiple people before finding somebody I like), and each was strong, fluid, adeptly pinpointing sore and tight muscles and working them effectively. I felt completely renewed and relaxed after each massage. As one prior review noted, this place is an absolute gem.
