I never leave bad reviews, but 3 weeks later I am still in pain from this experience. No where does it indicate it's a walking /standing massage. The untrained and questionable liscensed masseuse put her FULL BODY WEIGHT standing directly on my SPINE. Repeatedly I told her I was in pain. She also stomped on my tailbone causing bruising. 3 weeks later I am still in pain, back spasms and pulled muscles. Then she caused a scene yelling for a 50% tip in the lobby. (I tipped 20%) . Facility was grimy and staff was rude. And I'm injured. AVOID AT ALL COSTS read more

DO NOT VISIT!! Would do no stars if possible. Felt so uncomfortable, they are very unprofessional and greedy. Demanded tip before service even started and finished 30 minutes early. The reasoning was that they used two workers instead of one, so they cut the time in half.. this was NOT my request. This does not make time go by twice as fast. PAID for a full hour of relaxation and got scammed instead!!! read more

these people are scam artist .Been to many message spa's and there quality of work is at a B grade level in my opinion so it's not even that good but it's nothing you have to seriously complain about but the worst is I came in to pay for a message I asked for any hour not only did they force me to tip saying my 55 dollar message cost 70 but they also only spent 25 minutes saying that it took two people so it took less time ... I NEVER ASKED FOR TWO POEPLE !!!!!!!! THEY JUST DECIDED THIS ON THERE OWN all I wanted was to take my mom out for something nice and they fully and completely my scamed me f$&& this place will never be back and honestly have made them a personal enemy will try what ever I can to ruin business read more

They don't have foot massage chairs. They bring you to a sketchy room and make you lay down. Did I also mention that it's not clean!!! I only went because of the reviews. They must be fake because there's no way this place is 4 or even 3 stars. read more

Great pedicure! One of the best I have had in NYC (and I have gotten many!!). The 10 minute back massage was also really good. The only negative was that the other woman getting pedicures were SO LOUD and talked non-stop to each other. Also, there was a woman on her cell phone for over 10 minutes. They should encourage people NOT talk on their phones and to talk at a soft level if they need to talk. It was NOT a relaxing atmosphere at all. That being said, I will definitely go back as the service was well worth the price. read more

Exceeded my expectations! Helpful employees who are prompt and responsive. Amazing massage catered to my needs. I left feeling like a new woman! Highly recommended :) read more

I called half an hour in advance for two 30 minute foot massages- and they put us right into the schedule. These ladies are magicians- for a totally reasonable rate my masseuse spent 30 intense minutes massaging, pounding my heels, and really getting deep into my feet. FYI: Don't expect a resort spa experience. The beds are only separated with curtains, so very little privacy. The entrance is through the lobby of a residential building. For the price, totally worth it. read more

I have been receiving massages at Super Magic Fingers for about ten years, most recently with my two daughters as a treat after one was just married. The staff are always pleasant and accomodating. The massages are professional and tailored to requests and needs. The surroundings are clean and welcoming--do verify location as they have recently moved from 81st to 83rd Street. A neighborhood gem for sure! read more

I have been going here for the last 2 years or so. Most of the people are great especially if you like strong pressure. They actually listen to you and work on the areas you want them to read more

Meh, mediocre massage. Echoing what some of the other reviews said, I don't think the person who massaged me had real massage training- I don't think she knew what she was doing. It is a no frills massage place that is questionable in terms of its cleanliness. They speak loudly and if you happen to know Chinese, will pepper you with questions including what you do and how much you make. Umm.. I came here to relax, not for the Spanish Inquisition. Saw a Groupon and called to ask about their availability before pressing "buy" on the Groupon deal. They insisted that I don't need to buy and they would honor the same offer. I booked an appointment for the same day. They didn't honor the Groupon deal. My bad for trusting them. read more

This was the best massage I've ever gotten, and it was less than $50 before tip. For AN HOUR! I I've been to a lot of the smaller massage places in NYC, but this is far and away the best. read more

I've been coming here for over 15 years, and this place has the best massages! I attribute the success to the owner who consistently finds the best massage therapist and creates a friendly, efficient and relaxed atmosphere. I give my highest recommendation. read more

Super Magic Fingers is a misnomer. Not the adjectives - the noun. I got a 45 minute massage yesterday and I only felt fingers for a couple minutes. Knuckles, yes. Palms, yes. Elbows, christ yes. I had so many joints pressed into me that I dreamt I was Willie Nelson's ashtray. I only recommend this place if you're the type that loves hard massages or you've really fucked up your back. I went in with the normal aches and pains and those have been replaced with abnormal aches and pains (is bone marrow supposed to hurt?). I suppose I'm more philo dough than pizza dough... I guess I could've been more forceful in asking my masseuse to 'soften up' but I didn't want to cramp her supremacy or magic ways. I'll give her this - I think she obliterated a knot somewhere between my 8th vertebrae and my pancreas that predated the Bush administration... As for value, fantastic. $26 for a half hour, $38 for 45 minutes, $48 for an hour. Cheap! As for ambience, it's a room with three beds and two curtains. 'Nuff said. Three stars if you're a softy like me, 5 stars if you're a masochist.... read more

I had the worst experience here. Absolutely awful. First, I made an appointment over the phone for 6:45pm. I walked into the door, and said, "I had an appointment at 6:45?" to which a woman rudely interrupted me and said, "6:30!" It was such a bad vibe to start things off with. The massage hurt like hell and I didn't feel relaxed. Then came time to pay. They tack on $5 for tax if you use your credit card (I didn't know that) - and when I said I wanted to leave a $10 tip they argued with me! It was such a buzz-kill. The person then calculated how much a 20% tip would be and practically insisted I pay it. She kept shoving the calculator in my face saying "20 percent!" "20 percent!" How rude and aggressive is that?! Screw you Magic Fingers! I've got a finger to show you. I will never, ever go back there again. Can I give them minus stars? Is that an option? read more

They moved from 81st to 83rd, I recommend calling before you go... I Walked in with leg muscles and tendons like hardened cement bags. Walked out of there after an hour of deep tissue massage on my legs and calves... now I have happy legs like soft clay! super excited to not be woken up by my legs in the middle of the night tonight! I hope I can find a place as affordable as this when I go home to San Francisco. (An hour of deep tissue massage for less than $50.... swoon ) these guys are awesome. I DO HIGHLY RECOMMEND these guys. read more

When in the course of human events, there comes a time when HOLY CRAP MY BACK HURTS OMG. Like a good ABC, I know that means it's time to pay a little Chinese lady to beat the crap out of me. When I need someone to break me and remake me without breaking the bank, I come here. At $38 for 45 minutes and $48 for an hour, it's just a smidgen more than the same experience in Chinatown; a small price to pay for a convenient (to me) location, and still heaps cheaper than going to a spa. The entry room is lovely, but where the actual massage takes place is a shabby little room with incomplete curtain dividers. You'll be unceremoniously led into one and allowed to strip down, then lie on a thin white sheet and cover up with a scratchy but thick towel. There's a hole in the table where you put your face, cushioned and thoughtfully lined with paper towels. My thought process goes something like this: ooooh ... hmm that's not so bad ... OMG HOT BABY OIL ON MY BACK ... ow, I needed that ... OH OH OUCH OUCH AHHHHHHHHH. They'll work out your kinks with just as much force as necessary. I left feeling like a new woman (though I also left skidding around on my flip-flops thanks to residual lotion on my feet!). In lieu of a cup of tea, you'll get a Dixie cup of cold water; not much on the Chinese hospitality here. Surprisingly for a Chinese-run place, they accept credit cards, though you'll have to pay a surcharge. You can probably walk right in; I typically call ahead just to be sure, but I've never been turned down. read more

I'm in total agreement with the positive reviews below. There are two different types of connoisseurs of massage places: a) those that like to be pampered, and b) those just looking to put their bodies in equilibrium on a regular basis without emptying the wallet. (Acutally, there's a "c" crowd, but I'll stay away from talk of happy endings) Super Magic best fits the latter (b): a place to get inexpensive, quality massages without the cedar, plants and water fountains in the lobby jacking up the price unnecessarily. Don't get me wrong: I like water fountains, I just don't want to pay an extra $50/hr for a babbling brook unless I'm on vaycay. Thanks to Kim H. for helping me find this place. My previous massage place in SoHo is now defunct. Having taken several weeks to find a replacement, my body was all knotted up from training for a half Ironman. After an hour and a half of elbows and oils, I'm back in business. Check this place out if you're the "B" connoisseur . If you're the A crowd, go to bliss and pay $120 an hour for your funny white slippers. Cheers. read more

So apparently stress has been tearing up my upper back & neck to the point that it felt like I had helped build the Egyptian pyramids. Although I love me some Salon de Tokyo, I wasn't in the mood to strip down to my chonies & get worked the fuck ooout! So I scoured Yelp & found this place that so happens to be on my way home, affordable & catering to my particular need. I got there, they immediately showed me to my little curtain-walled space, I told homegirl what my issue was & to have at it for 60 minutes. Let me tell you- totally fuckin' worth it! She hit up exactly my problem spots & worked them out to no point. It was obvious I was going to be sore, but not because she kicked my ass, but because she untangled months upon months of stress. $60 total with tip included for 60 minutes is completely mutherfuckin' worth it. Moreso, when it's so good that you're literally stepping outta SMF all dazed & confused. read more

Here's the bottom line: 1) It's cheap 2) They will "shush" you and usher you into a moderately scary room with no instructions. I took off my shirt. 3)They barely understand English so don't bother with special instructions 4) The man "masseuse" literally gently rubs your back and has no idea what he is doing. He may be the janitor. Go with the Lady. read more

YES!! OH YES!! THANK YOU!! So, I love, love, love this place! I read about it right here on Yelp when in search of a good place for a massage. I recently had my neck/left shoulder go into a spasm. After much debate I decided to get a massage. I went to a little spa in Park Slope that was actually quite great, but their "deep tissue" massage did nothing to alleviate my pain! I then found Super Magic Fingers and took a shot! The woman was amazing! I was only able to go for half an hour, but it was well worth it! I left feeling like jelly! Yes, it is true, there is not much privacy, but that is something I was more than willing to get past for the greatest massage I've ever had! Their acupressure skills are so right on. Just point and tell them where it hurts and they'll make the pain go away. This is definitely a place for a great deep massage! And the prices are beyond reasonable. I think I may even take up my doctor's advice and start making regular appts! FANTASTIC!! read more

No frills. Crap service. Been three times cuz it's close to me, but I'm done! I've been to many of these types of places so I expect sub par payment process and partial understanding of the English language, but this place takes good ol Chinese rudeness to an extreme. Go down the street to another place. I wouldn't recommend this to my worst enemy. read more

In these arctic January winter temps, there are very, very few parts of the human body that need no insulation. And I like to wax these parts. A lot. I've tried Brazilians, and I've done bikinis. Finding the latter somewhat pointless, I'm also not the biggest fan of the life-flashing-before-your-eyes agony of a Brazilian, nor do I long to resemble myself at 5 years of age. My custom somewhere-in-between style, dubbed the "ultra-deep bikini", can be difficult to master. The lady here did it. Nicely. And it happened to be THE least painful experience I've ever had. Her meticulous post-wax tweezing (which I'll do without next time) left a couple bumps, but overall I was truly irritation-free, with no signs of redness. In fact, after the dirty martini I sipped promptly after, I even forgot how much I regretted wearing the tightest skinny jeans I own that day. As for the space itself (which is on 83rd St., not 81st): No frills is an understatement. Honestly, the ambiance is as frightening as getting this kind of a waxing done. If the next installation of the film "Hostel" had a spa/salon theme, this place would be it. Walking down the very steep, bend-down-at-a-90º-angle low staircase to a windowless basement with flickering fluorescent lights and water-stained ceilings is unsettling. Maybe it's all a ploy, because it made the waxing experience a pleasant surprise. My girl was kind, considerate, and as gentle as could be. And $17 total with a same-day appointment can't be beat. My entire experience would've been perfectly devoid of any discomfort if only my beloved waxer girl hadn't walked in on me in the bathroom afterwards. But hey, it wasn't nothin' she hadn't seen before. And she should've been very proud of her work. read more

Great massage at a great price. I had Emmy as my masseuse and she did such a great job making me feel cared for and I left without the pain that I walked in with. She was fantastic! read more

This place is exactly what I've been looking for -- a hole in the wall place on the UWS where I could get a massage on the cheap. When I called, they said that I could come right over, and it was a very thorough and down-to-business type of massage. They live up to their name -- those are some super magic fingers... A word of caution: this place is not for someone who is creeped out by massage -- there's no door to close for privacy while you're changing, only a flimsy curtain that doesn't close all the way. Also, watch out for the upsell. After an hour of kneeding away my troubles, she offered another 10 minutes for my feet, and I said sure, to which she replied, okay, 30 minutes. In that state, I wasn't in a good place to argue, and it was all so enjoyable anyway -- but sticking to 60 minutes is definitely the best deal. read more

This was an interesting experience. My pregnant wife and I were in NYC visiting the neighborhood we once lived in. We both had achey backs that could use some attention. We found SMF on Yelp. The place was legit, but feels shady. The entire place consists of a single room divided by semi-see-through curtains. It's dark. You ring the bell and they quickly usher you in. Nobody asked us what we wanted and just sent us into adjacent curtained off partitions. After about two minutes of standing there, wondering what's going on, we were instructed to disrobe and lay on the table. My wife asked for a prenatal massage... I don't think they know what that means. They just threw an extra pillow on the massage table and told her to lay down. It was interesting for me to lay naked on a table with only a bath towel to cover me. It was even more interesting for my pregnant wife. In the back of my head, I still had this fear that we had just stumbled into an illegitimate massage parlor... oops. Turns out it was on the up and up. Yet, the experience was awkward to say the least. The massage was decent. Not amazing. She did work on the knots in my back. Yet, my masseuse was 80 lbs. I'm over 200 lbs. There is just only so much leverage she has. I wouldn't go back. Although, for an NYC massage it is a good value, and it came with a fun awkward story to tell people. read more

No frills, bells, or whistles, but adequate therapist with sensitivity and contour to individual concerns.

great place great massage, can just walk in but....you should call. HOWEVER: if you are not into community room massages separated by a sheet don't go and... Bring your own pillow case, as a barrier they use bounty. Not that I am a germophobe, but bounty? well at least its the quicker picker upper.. Went here on referral of a roommate, and was pleased. My masseuse worked me over; it was a chore to not cry out while she worked on the huge knot between my shoulders. ...but after every stretch/push/pull/knead I felt a little better. I was sore for a day, but my knot disappeared and I felt great after that. For $50/hr, a good deal. Catch: I was in such a haze during my massage that I didn't think twice before accepting the offer for a foot massage at the end. (I was also a little confused as to what she was saying -- her English was tenuous -- and I had no idea whether my hour was up yet). I caught on several minutes later, however, when she offered me a face massage... so when I finally got out to the desk to pay I found out that I owed $65 instead of $50. This was a rather rude shock, and it meant that I could only leave $5 for tip. Moral: Just say NO. read more

Went here with my husband as a anniversary surprise. I want to mention that I would not recommend other people bring their significant others here on such an occasion, just that my husband is a student and I stay home with our little girl, so a massage is a massage, even if I'm undressing and someone can see me from the front door. Not only is this place no frills, but it has almost a make shift feel to it. Be that as it may, I would've given it five stars, but for the fact that my massage was not good. My husband says his was great, but mine was performed by someone who seemed to just be sort of giving me a back rub, not a massage. 2 stars for trying, and 1 star for my husbands experience. read more

The name of this place is spot on. I don't know what was in my masseuse's fingers, but it was definitely super and magic. The place was quiet and very warm on a frigid winter afternoon, and even though my massage table was in a tiny area separated only from neighbors and reception by (yep) a curtain, it was clean and the sheets and towels were soft and comfortable. They played relaxing music and between that, the heat, and those super, magic fingers, I was lulled into a kind of deep-relaxed stupor that went somehow beyond falling asleep and into a trancelike state. It's definitely no frills, but what do you need frills for anyway? You're face down the entire time. My massage started with some pretty heavy pressure - she asked if it was okay, I asked her to go lighter, and her touch for the rest of the session was respectful and intuitive. I've been to many massage places where they spend most of the session on my shoulders when I actually carry most of my tension and pain in my lower back and legs, but this woman worked out the painful tension in my lower back and spent a lot of time on the knots in my legs. I swear I was sub-verbal when I walked out of there - everything just felt so loose. I wish I lived closer to the UWS, but even so I may have to go out of my way to return to this place. It's that good. read more

This is one of the best massage deals in New York. This place really should be named Super Magic Elbows, Forearms, and Knees (yes, my Chinese wonder woman used her knees). I've gotten massages that last from 20 minutes to 90 minutes, and every time, I leave relaxed and with fewer pains in my neck/back/feet. If you're into those foo-foo massages where they have private rooms that are scented with lavender, and Enya playing in the background, this is probably not the place for you. However, if all you really care about is the massage, Super Magic Fingers is the place to go. read more

I went here last week after I hurt my back to the point where I could barely stand up straight. I also had Amy for a 60 minute massage and she was great! I have to go back again soon. You can overpay elsewhere -- or get an amazing deal at the famous Super Magic Fingers and leave feeling HAPPY! read more

BEST EVER!!! i went to the w. 81 at amsterdam location (they also have one downtown at 203 w. 38 st - 2nd floor) when i was in nyc and had a sudden issue with neck / upper back that was so painful i couldn't even turn my head (literally!), let alone go out and enjoy my vacation. this place was a LIFE SAVER! it's a no-frills, ultra budget-friendly ($48 / hr) massage therapy studio that specializes in tui-na but also offers shiatsu, reflexology, acupressure and acupuncture. after only 1 hour of deep tissue work i was ready to hit the town again, and best of all, to get back on another 6 hour flight without worrying about back pain... this place is a total gem, i wish we had more like this in california. read more

My back has been killing me, due to my bad posture and spending 8 hours a day with a saxophone hanging off of my neck. So, for Valentines' Day my boyfriend got me a massage. He lived in China for a while, and has been raving about Chinese massage places, and he found this place on the Upper West Side that I guess is pretty authentic. It's called Super Magic Fingers, and it's at 81st and Amsterdam. A massage is $48 for an hour, but you can get different time increments . Not only was it super cheap, it was A-MA-ZING. It's not a spa, it's definitely no frills... no hot oils, wax, or Enya in the background. They just lead you to a little bed behind a curtain with a hole in it for your face. Let me tell you though, if you can get past the slight amount of shadiness - it is AMAZING... they worked out EVERY nook and cranny of my back. read more

I WISH we had a place like this in LA. I have had many, MANY massages from various establishments (all legal) :) and nothing compares to the skillset in massage that I had here. It was just so different, not your typical swedish, but more acupressure. My girlfriend did warn me about the sketchy building, all the whispering, etc, but WHO cares! The only negative thing was that the temperature in the unit was SO warm, probably 80 degrees. So I fell asleep during the massage and when I woke up, I thought I might pass out and felt quite sick and nauseous for several hours afterwards. I was told it was probably dehydration, so I highly recommend that you come in hydrated. read more

They have to overhear all of your stupid conversations, smile, while they scrap dead skin off your feet, and then pretend to care that you're all about a nail color. They also give you a shoulder massage while you wait for your nails to dry. I mean, come on, that's amazing. This is my go-to place. read more
